very sturdy material Super impressed with this lamp. The fact that it is made of metal is a very important detail. Once I took out the lamp, everything was impressively made of metal, even the springs so no matter which way I turned the lamp or whichever position I put the lamp in, the position held incredibly sturdy. This is great so you don't have the lamp switching position on you because of a flimsy make.I also really like the remote on-off switch. It's connected to the cord so it makes it easier to access when it is on your bedside table. and it's easy to switch on and off than a regular lamp with a twist-turn switch.Definitely would recommend this to anyone who's looking for a sturdy and cheap bedside lamp. 5Watch our for this light--bell too short for ordinary bulbs, and promotion misleading I wish I had not bought this light. In the main body of the promotion is mentioned it could take no more than a 40W bulb, NOT only a "40W equivalent" LED bulb, as mentioned in the fine print--which I did not read carefully enough. I should have looked up the suggested bulbs. I like a very bright light for reading, but a 100W equivalent LED bulb (which is far less than 40W) is too long for the bell, and sticks out. At lesser wattage, I do not believe this light suitable as a primary desk light--which it could safely be if the metal bell were 1" longer. 1Sturdy and durable This is great lamp. The swing arm is adjustable to meet your direction need. I used it as my reading light on bed stand. Adjustable arm is so convenient. The bottom base heavy enough to keep lamp stand sturdily no matter how to adjust arm. The amazing thing is changeable base according to your need. The clipon base could be used on my son's bunck bed because there is no stand on the top. I am going to order another one for him. This light is made by metal which looks very sturdy and durable. So far it works great. 5Works great! My dad gave me an extra Phillips Hue LED light bulb and base station which are pretty expensive and cool, but I didn't have a good place to use it. This was a cool lamp for a fair price and it would allow me to use my cool LED light in a more convenient location. My desk. My room doesn't have a good light socket nearby so this was my better solution.Pros:Looks awesomeThe flexible functionality works greatThe weighted base is pretty heavyCons:Although weighted base is heavy it can still tip over if you lean the lamp over too far.The desk clamp doesn't go thick enough to work with my cheap IKEA desk.The light socket wasn't centered. I bent it into place without much effort though. A couple small broken pieces feel out of it when I did that, but it still work fine.Overall it works for me. Could be better, but I still don't regret my purchase considering the price was cheap. I'd still recommend it. 4Was dented. Didn t fit into clamp. Returned. We returned this. The round base was dented out of the box. When not using the base, the arm is very difficult to put into the base clamp. I couldn t get it in, and felt that if I couldn t get it in 11-year-old daughter wouldn t be able to be there. Also the arm went on the base, was very hard to bend at the hinges, causing it to tip over. The bulb also stuck out from the shade. In short disappointing 1worst piece of crap lamp I have ever seen!!! Do not waste your money! The Clamp hole does not fit the size of the lamp tube!!!!! And the table stand does not lock the metal tube on the support because the screw is so cheap that it doesn't have the power to support and hold the lamp. In other words I am returning the two lamps I just bought! don't waste your money! 1DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU WANT A CLAMP ON LAMP! I wanted this to attach to my headboard so I can read in bed. It won't work. THe base is okay; that will work, I think, but the clamp appears to be made for some other product. It'll clamp, but looks as if the metal piece that holds it together might slide apart at any moment, since only the tightness of the clamp holds it in place. In other words, it is upsidedown and will not use gravity to it's advantage.Then try to fit the metal tube from the lamp into the hole in the clamp. It won't slide down, not more than a half inch or so. And there is nothing to tighten it up, make it stable. So it seems as if it might fall on your head in the middle of the night.Plus, the lamp is not as adjustable as they lead you to believe, and if you decided to try to use it to read in bed, you'd have to pull the bed out from the wall, because to get it into any sort of rational position, part of the lamp will be well behind the line of the clamp.My options are : Return it (a pain in the neck). Build it some kind of shelf to sit on above the bed, and attach it to the wall somehow. (Also a pain.) Use it somewhere else.You'd think I'd know better than to buy anything electrical from Amazon. 1Great Value I bought this to replace an old drafting lamp and it does the job nicely. The only caution is that you must use the recommended bulb type and range or it appears not to work. I tried an FLR and it would not work. I bought the bulb recommended on the box, and it works perfectly. 5The base can attach with screws for a solid attachment. I do fine craft work and hobby work 1/160 scale so light is important to put right on a object. My old lamp attached to the wood table with screws and the base finally gave out after years of use so it was important to find one that had the same features and this does. While this does have a screw type clamp to attach with the screw holes in the base allow for a more stable solid attachment which in my case is very nice to have. I am able to lower the lamp shade to within about 5 inches of what I am working on if needed. Overall a well made product that I should get years of use out of. 5Nice lamp, switch grows hot When my beloved Ikea desk lamp finally gave up the ghost after two decades of faithful service, I mourned for a while and then decided that even I, someone who loves the dark, had to have a little more light than a single candle's worth every once in a while. So I went shopping. It came down to this one and an LED lamp with some interesting features, and in the end I settled for this one.It's a nice looking lamp, made pretty well, sturdy, with a base heavy enough to keep it steady but small enough to have a minimal footprint. The colour is a nice matte finish, which I like. Even the springs which allow for the positioning of the lamp arm are black, which is a really nice touch. The only non-black hardware is the bright silver screws. It positions easily and holds its position without sagging or drifting.The only problem I have with it is that the switch on the cord of the lamp about 8-10 inches or so from the lamp arm base grows very hot to the touch when the lamp is left on for any length of time - hot enough to be almost a burn to your fingers. That makes me very nervous; so much so that I switch the lamp off if I leave my desk for more than a few minutes. It stays a steady temperature, though a hot one, and cools down quickly and completely. That's the single flaw I can see in this piece.Good lamp for the money, but I think next time I'm going to step into the 21st century and give the LED Tectronic lamp I tucked into my wish list a try. =) 3
