Customer Reviews

Don't buy it Terrible screen replacement. I was very upset about the screen. I bought it as it has lots of positive reviews, but it was not as good as it was described. first of all, you need to put the 3M tape on by yourself, which is hard. If the 3M tape is not placed on the new screen properly, the adhesion won't be good between the body and the screen. Second, the 3M tape was sticking on the liner and it won't come off. Last, the size of the front camera is not right and the front camera is partially blocked by the new screen. 1Saved hundreds of dollars... If you've got an iPad with broken glass, this is a great alternative to paying $250 to Apple to have it fixed by professionals. I scored major points with my wife when I managed to successfuly fix her iPad Air, where the screen glass had shattered. The alternative was to either have Apple perform the repairs ($$$), which costs more than half the price of a new iPad, or send the device to third-party professionals ($$), and hope they do a good job.It took me about two hours to complete the job; about half of this was spent in removing the old screen and scraping off the old adhesive. The iPad I worked on had a badly shattered screen, so removal was a bit tricky. Installation was tricky as well, mainly because this product comes with NO instructions of any kind! I dinged them one star for that omission. I found a number of videos out on YouTube, watched several, and finally found one which I liked (it was about 10 minutes long). I used that video as a guide for removal and installation.Note that even the best of videos do not cover everything. That was a significant problem, because I had to figure out quite a few things on my own, and hope that I got them right. One week later, the iPad is working just fine, so I must have made all of the right connections, and not done any damage in the process. This repair is probably best for those who have at least some experience with electronics and are mechanically inclined. The new glass fit perfectly, and I had no problems getting it properly aligned. If, God forbid, I ever have to perform this repair again, I can probably get the job done in half the time, now that I've got a better feel for what I'm doing. A good instruction guide would make this a five-star product. 4(Update 4/7: NOT so great) Great Replacement Screen Finished installing mine about an hour ago and it's working great. If starts to malfunction over time as a few other people's have I'll update my review. As others have noted it doesn't come with any directions, parts list or guidance what so ever. I watched a few videos on YouTube and was able to replace it without any issues. The screen is perfectly clear and free of any scratches, cracks, light squares or blemishes at all. I found the screen to be very slick, more so than the original. Overall I'm very happy with this screen. If I drop my IPad again this will be the first place I go to get a new one.UPDATE: 4/7/17Unfortunately my screen went bad. Out of nowhere it has started to malfunction. I have a dead spot on the top left corner and when I tap a letter it frequently hits that letter multiple times. It's basically unusable. Needless to say, I won't be ordering another from them. 1I ordered a different digitizer from another Amazon seller and that one worked perfect. I measures the length of the new one ... The item arrived well packaged and came with a lot of tools. Most I used but a few I didn't need to repair my daughters IPAD. The reason that I gave it a low score is because of the 3 connectors; home button and what I called digitizer 1 and 2, the digitizer connector that has a vertical head was to long between the digitizer frame and the connector. Some might say no big deal but when you place the metal cover back over the electronic parts, and carefully place the digitizer over the LCD, the vertical connector ribbon cable got immediately pinched because there was excess ribbon slack. I discovered that inoperability immediately after I turned it on and to my dismay no touch screen function. After this debacle, I ordered a different digitizer from another Amazon seller and that one worked perfect. I measures the length of the new one compared to the Techorbits one and the new one was in fact shorter. I don't like writing bad reviews and maybe it was just an assembly or manufacturing mistake but heed caution and just verify the cable dimensions are the same from the one that you take off to this one prior to installing it. This might have been a one time issue but I did learn my lesson. I'll measure them if I have to do this repair again. 2Worked perfectly This product worked wonderfully. It took me roughly an hour or so to replace the screen, but that really had nothing to do with the replacement screen/materials itself. The majority of the time spent on replacing the screen is typically removing the old one. The more broken the screen is (the more pieces...) the longer it will take to remove it.[...]^^ That is the video that I watched to remove the screen. It isn't the same company as who made this kit, but the tools were nearly identical and their method worked for me just fine using this kit. I also did not require a heat gun to remove the screen. I was able to use a hair dryer no problem. A heat gun might have been slightly faster, but not worth spending the money on one for maybe a few minutes saved. While replacing the screen, it's recommended to not touch the inner LCD as much as possible. This is simply because the less you touch it, the less chance for smudges or scratches. Unfortunately, I did touch it once while my gloves were off. This resulted in a very nasty smudge that did not come off at all at first by simply buffing with the included microfiber cloth. However, this kit includes a small "wet wipe" that when used in combination with the microfiber cloth removed the smudge absolutely 100%.Of the images included in this review, the first is of the iPad with the broken screen and covered in packing tape (a good tip to try and keep all glass together). The second image is the final result. If you notice a few bubbles here and there, that's because the new screen still has the protective plastic cover on it. I used metal binder clips with padding for just under an hour to ensure proper adhesion and hit all edges if the iPad with the hair dryer briefly after putting them on.All in all, this kit did EXACTLY what I needed and for only roughly $28. The iPad works perfectly again and noticing that the screen is a replacement one is next to impossible. 5Like everyone else said, these are horrible. The preface to this review is I took a chance despite the polar reviews because I could have this kit on Sunday and it was Friday night when I ordered it. I also am experienced in electronics repairs and have opened and repaired dozens of Apple iOS devices to work on anything from batteries to full on motherboard cleaning after water damage. After a painstaking installation to make sure everything was done right (the adhesive is NOT pre applied as stated) the top portion of the digitizer did not work and ghost touches were present. This matches a trend seen in other reviews. I was lucky to have had the foresight to test before gluing down otherwise I d have to spend more time removing this defective product. There are SO MANY one star reviews that cite actual problems and equally as many 5 star reviews that just say it s great that after this whole ordeal it makes me think the 5 star reviews cant be real.In addition to the unit flat out not functioning...The production quality is poor. If it did work, digitizer lines are definitely present and viewable on the screen even with the LCD display active. Some people say they re not too bad but it s possible the quality control is so bad that someleave the factory ok and others are totally unacceptable.Overall I d definitlet stray from all these $20 kits and buy one from a reputable seller and manufacturer. 1Consider Yourself Warned. The price is great, and the tools are great. Unfortunately the screen is garbage. Ive now bought two of these over the past year and both have severe screen ghosting issues. Reseating all cables and ensuring nothing is pinched makes no difference. I have personally replaced roughly 100 ipad air screens (so i know what im doing) and im certain the quality is severely lacking in production of these. On this one (purchased july '17, and in addition to severe ghost-touches ) the home button detached from the ribbon cable and ended up sliding between the digitizer and LCD. Finally, the entire bottom inch of the digitizer (home button side) is completely dead, registering no touches whatsoever.I thought the first one was a fluke so i gave it another try. Mistake. Consider yourself warned.-Michael 1Tools that come with the kit work great, no instructions but you can find videos online Tools that come with the kit work great, no instructions but you can find videos online. This is the second digitizer I am replacing. The first lasted for 1 year and then start having ghost touch events. Unfortunately the second replacement was terrible quality. The cables attaching the digitizer seem too stiff and oversized (didnt have that problem last time). There were visible stains on the inside of the touch screen. I tried to clean the inside but nothing changed. The stains are almost like a foggy stain on the digitizer. There are 2-3 round dots and a horizontal line 1/8 of an inch at the top of the screen. Screens durability was also TERRIBLE. The first time I tried to place it everything was fine. Unfortunately once I realized the stains I tried to lift up the digitizer to clean but they wouldnt go away. Then when placing the digitizer back and pushing the edges down to the casing the digitizer cracked at the edge. 1HOME BUTTON CABLE ZIF SOCKET - CRITICAL: This is not the normal warning about protecting the home cable during disassembly. This is about removing the cable from the connector. You must be able to do this to use this kit.The product itself is fine, but includes no instructions. You will need to find a good video on the procedure in order to be successful. Many videos assume you will reuse the original home button and ribbon cable, and so take great care not to damage it, and do not show you how to disconnect them from connector. This kit does include the home button and cable, and so to use those items you must disconnect the original cable properly. Doing so incorrectly will destroy the connector. It cannot be removed by simply prying up - like the DIGITIZER cables, or by sliding it out toward the bottom of the case. Doing either will DESTROY the connector. To remove the HOME button cable:1) Gently remove the black tape covering the connector2) Pry up the ZIF connector lock3) Slide the cable out, toward the bottom of the iPad.You probably will not be able to do this from a text description. This video demonstrates the entire repair, including the home cable replacement. The ZIF socket part starts at about 13:00[...]One thing I found. Once the old glass and cables are removed, You have to remove any leftover adhesive from the case before installing the new glass. Most videos accomplish this by scraping. I found that by using a drop of Goo-Gone on a cotton swab, the old adhesive and any gummy residue can be removed easily. It will take many swabs. Clean up the goo-gone with alcohol on swabs. Be careful not to get any goo-gone into the case. That will save you a lot of scraping and potentially avoid damage. 4Good product and not to hard to install My screen was shattered see before pic which made it a bit harder to remove because the screen started to break up into small pieces. No instructions how to change in the package but youtube has many instructional videos. The tools that came with is awesome. Some additional tips:1. I used my wife's blow dryer instead of a heat gun to along the edges of the screen to warm up the adhesive and make it easier to remove. I asked my wife to hold the blow dryer on the spot I was using the pick to remove the digitizer.2. Followed Youtube video to unplug/plug in the new digitizer.3. After removing the old digitizer and scraping off the remaining adhesive, I put the new adhesive tape that came with on the new screen. 2 on top and bottom, 2 on each side.4. On the home button cable there are 2 x small blue films remove them stick them along the screen and connector base.5. Before removing the adhesive film that glues back the screen. Startup the iPad and make sure the home button and touch screen is working. I did that and noticed my touch screen didn't work (To shut off hold the Power and Home button together.) One of the cables got loose after putting back the LCD screen. It was good I caught it before gluing it back.6. Now my iPad looks brand new! 5
