Jack broke The jack broke on an airplane at the beginning of a trip to Cuba (so couldn't easily procure a replacement). I have never had something break at the jack before. It was plugged into the seat armrest of a JetBlue Airbus 320 - seemed normal to me and other headphones have done fine but this model seems a bit more fragile - broke at the exact same spot as another reviewer here. Symphonized denied my warranty claim, saying that airplane seat jacks are slightly smaller (??) so it doesn't constitute normal use. So beware that this product isn't meant for use in the airplane seat... I would say only safe place might be your phone.Sound quality is OK, I liked the fit of the earbuds and the quality of the voice input (others would hear me well). I can't recommend the ALN due to the fragility and Symphonized not standing behind it.I bought the NRG 3.0 before putting in a warranty claim because I needed a new pair ASAP, but I think that will be my last romp with Symphonized. 1Great Deal Almost Perfect Now I'm not an expert reviewer, but in all honesty, I'd rate this a 4.5. These are really great sounding earphones for the price. Light weight and feels like quality. The package includes a soft shell carrying case so that's a cool addition... now for the pros and cons.Pros - These earphones have a variety in range. I can hear every instrument (almost clearly) without much distortion or any obvious amplification. For bass heads, these little suckers are great. It doesn't just give a punch, they freaking knock, it caught me off guard! The cord is braided nylon, so unless you burn them, they aren't wearing anytime soon. It comes with a mic/play/pause/stop (works with calls) feature. Angled 3.5 standard jack; the angled feature will lessen the stress on the wires. They are light in weight, comes with a case and the ear plugs (regular and layered) come in multiple sizes.Cons - The microphonics are pretty bad (rustling or thump sound from rubbing the cord). The bass in these thumps (especially at louder volumes), so it's definitely not for everyone. Can get a little uncomfortable, but not really a big deal for me.I'll update this review after some time... until then, happy shopping! 5Not recommended - poor quality UPDATE:5 stars to Symphonized on how the addressed the poor experience I had with the ALN Premium earbuds and the new earbuds they sent to me as a replacement set, Symphonized DRM Wood In-ear Noise-Isolating Headphones with Mic. You can read my review of that pair at Symphonized DRM Wood In-ear Noise-Isolating Headphones with Mic - Black/GrayI was shocked when I got a call from Symphonized, saying that since my ALN Premium earbuds were still under warranty, they'd be happy to send a replacement set. They suggested DRM Wood In-ear Noise-Isolating Headphones and it would be a direct replacement since they're the same price which I don't understand because they couldn't be more different in quality and performance. I highly recommend the Symphonized DRM Wood In-ear headphones. The sound is awesome. They truly do not tangle (such a welcomed surprise after dealing with the disaster of the ALN Premium earbuds).Only downside is that they are a fair bit longer than the ALN's and sometimes will start sliding out of my ears (but that's not really the fault of the earbuds I just have tiny ears).Overall rating for Symphonized and their customer service - 5 stars.Overall rating for DRM Wood In-ear Noise-Isolating Headphones - 5 stars.Overall rating for ALN Premium Genuine Wood Earbuds - 1 stars. My ORIGINAL review of the Symphonized ALN Premium Genuine Wood Earbuds:The good (very little):- fit snuggly in my tiny earsThe bad:- loud booming noise in my ears each time the cables are in the slightest bit touched- cables are ****constantly**** knotting together. These are the complete opposite of "knot-free" earbuds. Takes forever to unknot them as the material is somehow designed to knot.- the fabric covering on the cables is incredibly poor quality. After a month or so of rare use, the fabric has many kinks and in numerous place about 1/8"-1/4" of the interior rubber cable comes through, and it's only going to get worse. 1I hate to give a bad review Review update:I purchased these in September of 2015. I left a 2-star review with the below comments. This month (January 2017) Symphonized contacted me via email and offered to send me a replacement set. I have updated my review to 4 stars. These headphones do sound really great. The base is incredible. They shipped me a different model that does not have the fabric covered cord. Touching the cord does make less noise but it does still seem louder than other headphones I've used. Possibly because the ear buds fit so snugly into your ear. I'm am not noticing the same issue with excessive pressure on my eardrum with the new pair, but they are the same as my initial pair. They seem to be well made, and the fact that the company contacted me out of the blue is pretty great.Original review:I hate to give a bad review, but these did not live up to my expectations. If you move and the cord rubs on your clothing it is very loud in your ear due to the material of the cord. The ear plug has no vent so when you push it into your ear it creates increased pressure in your ear and makes my eardrum (or something) flex and pop. I tried drilling an air hole with no luck. Not comfortable. Fortunately, after a month, I dropped my phone with them plugged in and it damaged the headphones so that they no longer work at all. Good riddance. 4Too Much Cord Noise 12/4/2015: I simply can't get over the cord noise. Giving them away to a young person who listens to really loud music, and won't notice it so much. I actually had a much better pair that came with my ROKU, with rubbery cords that made no noise. I will look for something similar instead of these.12/11/2015: After posting my review, I received a call from Symphonized Customer Support. They reminded me of their warranty, and offered to refund my money. Whilst I understand it makes good business sense to contact persons who leave less than glowing reviews, it is still comforting in this age to find that a company that pays attention to how its product is received enough to contact the purchaser to offer a refund.Draping the cords over the ears works well enough when seated at my desk to minimize the noise. The noise is not discernible when listening to rock, is annoying when the music has quiet passages, such as some classical music and is very noticeable when no music is playing. The cord noise aside, the sound is very good, the fit and comfort is excellent, and the little carrying case a real plus.I have amended my review, upgrading it to three stars based upon: 1. The excellent customer service; 2. The fact that the cord noise can be partially mitigated by draping the cords over the ears; and 3. The cost to benefit ratio, which includes the accessories and above average sound at such a reasonable price. Symphonized also directed me to another of their products (Symphonized DRM Premium Genuine Wood In-ear Noise-isolating Headphones with Mic), which they claim has less microphonics. 3Average sound. Bad build quality The sound is fine. About the same as most in-ear headphones. The problem with these is that the cord isn't very durable. It is a fabric wrapped rubber cord. The rubber cord starts to work its way out of the fabric after about a week, and then you get big ugly loops of wire poking out. There is no way to fix it, and in the end I just ended up snipping the fabric outer sheath in order to keep the loops from getting too big. Not very tangle resistant eitherEdit: Changed rating from 2 to 5 stars after Symphonic let me know that they redesigned the cord, and it is much better! They sent me a new pair, no questions asked, for the trouble. They didn't quite nail it the first time, but I am glad to see that their customer support team is willing to make it right in the end. 5Good purchase Pro:1. Good customizability. Comes with 3 pairs of "double cups", like those in the picture, and 3 pairs of regular ones.2. Great sound, I had Sennheiser X300 II, $35. These sound better than those.3. Cord strength. These are the nylon cords, so must be better than the regular ones likes those on the X300 II which I accidentally yanked it and broke them...4. Stay in ears well. I jog everyday, these don't fall out.Con:1. The color. I got the red cord one, thought it's the darker red in the pictures. Nope, these are BRIGHT red. Like R 255, G 0, B 0, red. But oh well.2. Cord noise, microphonics. Knocking 1 star off because of this. It's even worse than the $6 Panasonics RPHJE120. So annoying. BUT, but, it comes with a clip which can reduce a SIGNIFICANT amount of the cord noise. But still.3. Cord tangle very easily. They can actually make knots, multiple ones. But it is expected.Haven't tested the microphone yet. 4Better than Beats! Best ear buds I have ever had! First of all, I will say that I am a music/sound junkie! I love music and am very very picky when it comes to my headphones and speakers. I have purchased beats up too $400, and although I like them, I wish I would have known about Symphonized products beforehand. These have awesome sound and are very good quality. I have purchased several pairs of these and am always very impressed with them. They have just the right amount of bass and treble as one would expect if you like a lot of live pop/rock music. Some people that I speak too when using the microphone complain about an echo, but I think it is more of an issue with my phone than the headphones as I have always had great luck using the microphones on this brand of headphones. I have also had the beats ear plugs and these beat them hand down. They come with extra parts and a case and are well worth the money. Don't waste money on Beats when these are better and much better quality! It's also important to note that I have washed an older pair and they worked just fine after! 5I loved the first pair and used them heavily until I ... I just placed my 3rd order for these earphones. I loved the first pair and used them heavily until I began to experience some of the problems other reviewers have had. The backs of the phones where the speaker wire enters came off. I repaired the first one with Sugru but when the other one came off, the wire also detached from the contacts. In addition, although the woven cabling is a great feature, I found that the plastic insulation would poke through so that there would be little loops of plastic along the length of the wires.I do think that the sound quality is excellent...I listen to binaural beats and isochronic tones as well as music, and so I purchased a pair for a friend as well. I did try another brand in between, after my first pair broke but didn't find the same sound quality as the ALN's. The friend I gave the second pair to has raved about how much they like them, their comfort and sound quality.I give this product 4 starts because of the sound quality, great fit, and noise suppression. I left off a star because the manufacturer needs to still work on the flaws I mentioned above. If those were not present, I would easily pay double for such a product. 4Best earphones I have every tried! Well, it isn't often I get excited about earphones, but these are absolutely outstanding. I would put them up against Bose any day for both sound and quality. I don't know if the wood really makes any difference, but I do know the sound is something you won't believe until you try it yourself. I have listened to everything from rock to classical and have yet to have these distort. The bass is rich and full while higher notes are very crisp. If you like throwing your money away for a brand like Bose, have at it. If you want the same, or better, quality at a fraction of that price then these are what you want. 5
