Good Light; Easy Installation I used two of these to upgrade existing units to LED lighting. Quality of light is very good; much better than previous incandescent bulbs. Swivel & pivot functions also a major improvement, with no fear of twisting the wiring which happened in the old unit, causing failure of the device. Installation was very easy, accomplished through one of two methods: hard-wire or screw-in bulb adapter. Only issue is that the diameter is a bit smaller than my old unit, but a little touch-up paint will remedy that. Would definitely use again. 5Possibly my favorite Amazon purchase I bought this for my bathroom because the existing can is in a lousy position and shone straight down, making it neither useful nor flattering. Rather than move the location of the entire fixture I thought I'd try this first, and it's perfect! The gimbal feature of this bulb allows me to redirect the light towards the mirror so I can actually see! It arrived in perfect condition, was easy to install, and looks beautiful- much cleaner and more modern looking than the old trim and exposed bulb. It's "instant-on", in fact even faster than the adjacent led flood bulb, and no hum or flicker. The 3000k provides great color accuracy for doing makeup- crisp, neutral white light, without being too blue or harsh; and the 800 lumens is plenty bright for detail oriented tasks. I don't know that I'd choose this wattage/temperature for other living spaces without also employing a dimmer because it's quite intense, but for a functional space like a bathroom, laundry room, kitchen, etc, it's great. It may sound silly, but this has made such a difference in the ease of my daily routine that I'm looking into swapping out all my lights. 5Nice look, but check springs before installing This works well in the space we wanted it for. Suggest manufacturer might make a 3500K version. 3500K neutral white is the best light for most uses. 2700K is good for sleepy places like bedroom. 5000K is good for photography but crazy just about anywhere else. 3000K is good for transitional spaces like hallways or entryways or bathrooms. 3500K is best for general active space. Careful though as some lights are claiming 3000K when they are still much closer to sleepy 2700K.These /do/ turn whatever way you want them. Suggest turn them to approximately the right direction before you get up a ladder. Springs are very tight as other reviewers have said. Suggest pre-bend them before you get up a ladder to take out some of the stress. Then place them in the can very carefully so as to not accidentally bend the hooks inside your can. Color of light is good.On the 1st one we got, one of the springs was malformed, so it didn't sit right in the housing & so the can was visible. We returned it for replacement because I liked it otherwise, and the 2nd one was OK and covers the can correctly. 4A lotta glare The light itself from this fixture is good but this is not a recessed light and you get a lot of glare. A good way of using can lights is to put in short-necked PAR30's, where the bulb is set back into the ceiling two inches, and not visible until you get pretty much under it (and normally you don't look straight up so you really don't see them). It's a good lighting effect, particularly if you use black or mirrored trim kits. The bulb in this product, however, is right at the ceiling surface, and the glare of the light is conspicuous, similar to if you use a long-necked PAR30. Even when you tilt them, you still get a lot of back glare from the inner part of the housing. This is in contrast to eyeball-style gimbaled trim, which manages to hide the glare of the bulb if you tilt it far off center. So, if you don't care about light glare, this product is a good value, and you do get an much wider spread of light than with recessed lights. If you do care about glare, you will probably be happier with an eyeball trim kit such as this, Lithonia Lighting 7E1 TOR R6 6-Inch Standard Eyeball Full Reflector Recessed Light Trim, White, which runs around $25, and another $12 for a LED bulb. 3Compare Sunco to the HALO 3000K LED. Sunco is nice light. Good quality at a fair price. I needed to replace 10 halogen lamps in a vaulted ceiling with LED lamps. Although the ceiling was vaulted recessed light housings were for flat ceilings, but the LED retrofit lamps could not be focused properly. So we opted to install gimbal LED retrofits and adjust the lamps to focus on the floors and wash walls.The Commercial Electric LED gimbals had a beautiful light, but there was a painful glint from certain angles, so those went back. We tried just (1) HALO LED 3000K gimball, and we absolutely loved the fit, quality and color of the finish, ease of movement, and light color... but at $40 each they were just too pricey.So we did a quick search on Amazon and found these Sunco gimbal lights. We thought the light color of the Sunco lights was nice, in fact, very similar to the HALO 3000K. The gimball eye was very easy to move and in every case we were able to rotate the lights to light wash the correct areas of each room.If I were replacing many recessed lights but on a tight budget, I'd definitely buy the Sunco lights. However, where there are fewer fixtures of a more generous budget, I'd opt for the HALO 3000K LED gimballs.Our project budget was super tight, so we ended up installing 10 Sunco LED gimballs. But we had a few issues very minor issues with the Sunco retrofits that we haven't had with the HALOs.1. EVERY lamp arrived with minor scuffing on the front face of the fixture, but we decided we wouldn't be able to see the scuffs on a vaulted,12-foot ceiling.2. The paint color is actually a warm or yellow white... and we had just painted the ceilings dead flat Swiss Coffee, which is very white, think appliance white. So when these lights aren't turned on and it's really bright in the room and you look at the lights, you notice the light housing is a warm white. But, again, we decided that would be OK for this project. And we only mention it because the HALO LEDs were finished in a true white - almost grayish white. If this is a big deal to you, maybe buy one just to sample the color your room(s).3. The spring hangers are very stiff and were hard for us to install. One of the spring hangers on one of the retrofits was just a little off when we opened the box - and when we pinched the springs together to install the lamp the spring twisted so badly we ended up having to return the retrofit. Though the return process was super easy - was a bummer to have to return to the house again just to hang a light.HTH. Good luck with your project. 4Great accent light Updated Aug 17, 2018 at bottomJun 2016....I ordered this light to replace an eyeball trim in front of a fireplace, and it did a good job.The good:3000k light is fantastic. Smooth but crisp.The beam angle is perfect for an accent. From about 2 feet away, it lit up the mantle and wall above, and that's it. Great directional accent. The tilt angle also helped keep the light up on the wall instead of shining on the floorThe bad:Rotating the head inside the ring was a chore. I couldn't really tell if it was supposed to spin 360 degrees or if it had stop points. It just didn't want to turn all too well. So I took it out and spun the whole trim around inside the can light, and it was acting similar. Then all of a sudden, it was aimed exactly where I needed it. I don't know what I did differently that time.Overall, I give it 4+ stars. The finicky install could simply have been a one-time quirk. I've ordered other trims of this brand twice, in quantities of 30-40 without issue, so I'm quick to give benefit of the doubt.I won't hesitate to use this trim again for this type of install.- - - -Aug 2018...II haven't had an occasion to order these lights again until now. I ordered five of them for a slope ceiling in a kitchen.I put the first one in, and just like the one I had two years ago, it was difficult to spin in order to direct it straight down.Well, for whatever reason, I decided to pivot the light and then try to spin it with only two fingers. That time, it worked like a champ.So I tried that method on the remaining four, and it worked exactly the same. For whatever reason, if you take all five fingers and try to spin the eyeball, it doesn't want to do it. But if you use one thumb and index finger it will spin with no problem.So it is a finicky install, just like my previous assessment. But it's worth it. The light output is phenomenal and it dims down to about 5%. The pivot angle is a full 45 degrees or more. The pictures I've included are from my most recent install 4Ok except does not play well with others The 2700K version I have gives a warm, evenly-spread light, and you can direct the gimbal pretty well all around. Only complaint is with the dimming aspect. It doesn't dim evenly, in a linear fashion with my good led compatible dimmer. I have another dimmable light on this circuit that dims in proportion to my dimmer; this one, say, gives out about 70% intensity light when the switch is at about 1/3 intensity--more like a square function relationship than a linear function. I have other recessed lights that behave in a much more even and linear fashion, using same led dimmers. If you don't have any other lights on same circuit, it won't matter and you'll get used to the adjustment level.. otherwie stay away from this one. 3Look great, minor problems The look absolutely amazing. Bought 24, needing 23, had some troubles with 2 of them on install, a loose connection made it only work if it was hanging down, the other, the clips came off. Took the two and made one work. I have learned to plan for stuff like this, other wise I would have an incomplete job.I will say the clips are heavier gauge metal than most, for me this is a plus, I do this for a living and have strong hands, so I like them being sturdier. For a novice or someone who's hands arent up to the task, it'll be a little bit of a challenge. Would recommend, but only to somebody that has at least some mechanical ability or help that does. Once they are in you should be good for 10+ years. 3A legit review Installed these on a vaulted ceiling. The rest of my house i have 6 inch and 4 inch sylvania led 3000k retrofits. They are definately brighter and have more of a whiter but not blue color. Very nice. The springs are definately harder to install than others. But there is a easy fix and that is to prebend them and hold for a few seconds and release, makes it easier for installation. Also ot looks 100 times better than the eye ball gimbal look.i would of used these if i knew they existed before the sylvania. 5Nice upgrade recessed light with gimbal mount The light is a kit to update an existing 5 or 6 inch recessed light to an LED. It went in quickly, and worked fairly well. Negatives, the instructions were almost nonexistant, and what there was wasn't clear. If you just took your old unit out to replace it, you'll probably remember where everything goes, if not, you'll probably need to rely on youtube. Also, with an existing 6 inch light, it was difficult to get the unit centered so the edges of the cut out around the old recessed light housing didn't show. You had to fiddle with it for a while to get it to work. Considering that after all of this it ended up looking very nice and working very well, along with how hard it is to find a gimbal mount for an upgrade kit, I still felt it was worth a 4. 4
