Customer Reviews

Solid headlamp, but nothing mind blowing It's a headlamp.I was looking for a <$20 headlamp, and this got good reviews on CandlePower Forums. This headlamp certainly works, but it's very no-frills, and I don't find it blindingly bright. Two brightness settings, non-adjustable beam spread. Looks to be fairly rugged and moisture resistant. Fits relatively comfortably, and I really like the integrated clip for a baseball cap visor.I use it for working around the house (in the crawlspace, attic, etc.) and taking the dog out at night. I don't find it extremely bright, although it does the job. My main complaint is that I wish it was brighter. Would also be nice if it had an adjustable beam.No complaints for the price, but I will probably try something else if it ever needs to be replaced. 3Wonderful light for all occasions. For several years my boyfiend had joked that he needed a miners helmet to work in some confined spaces in which he needed to use his hands such as wiring behind computer systems or behind other obstacles. As a joke I obtained this light as it was the closest thing that Amazon has to a miner's helmet. This product is no joke. It has solved many of my boyfriend's lighting needs whether working on cable arrangement, doing electrical work around the house or trying to find something in a deep cabinet. This light is the ultimate hands-free lighting solution for small projects. Multiple brightness settings allow the light to be flexible to what is needed and not over-brighten when it would be inappropriate (such as working with camera equipment during astrophotography, or working with anything reflective). The light cannot function for long periods of time (rated at 12 hours low-light, 6 hours on full) and therefore is probably only suitable to occasional or short-duration use and not for continuous use. It is a great light and works well for its size and cost. 5Best Light For Close Work I am here to sing praises for this little light. I have purchased about a dozen of them over the past few years for myself and my employees. I am a refrigeration tech, and spend most of my time inside of machines or installing electrical controls in cases with no light. This light is NOT the best for a powerful beam over long distances. It is ideal for illuminating work at arms reach. That being said, I am never without it while walking down to the animals on the homestead, and I had no problem seeing the outline of a raccoon at 20 yards through a rifle scope. Most importantly it is the only light I can find that clips to your bill cap that doesn't require those little button batteries that I never have. The light lasts a good week or two of regular use on two AAA batteries. I cannot strap a dirty sweaty headlamp to my head, and straps are unreliable when you are hanging upside down in a machine. So the clip feature is indispensable to me. I pull it off my cap all day to use it as a hand light or to clip it in a machine to illuminate the work. That being said, I work these hard and have busted them in every way imaginable. I have only busted the "ears" that hold the battery cap on once, and was only able to fix that by stealing parts from another smashed unit. The most common failure is the friction tab that holds the light at the set angle. Simple fix is to tighten the hinge screw, and it works fine without it. I am buying 3 more of these today, and dread the day they quit making them. 5Not Ideal For Use In an Industrial Environment, or For People Who Work With Their Hands I know Streamlight to make some of the best flashlights in the world. But, this light did not live up to that expectation. I knew I would be unsatisfied with the quality when I hit the On button with one finger and inadvertantly wiped off the Streamlight logo and part number printing located next to the button. If they weren't proud enough to print their logo with any better paint than that...well, then I knew something wasn't right.Their smart use of a single bulb is impressive, but the functionality is no good for what I need it for. I need a strong/wide array of light around my hands and up to 6' away. This light projects a small, focused beam in that range of distance. You can, if you chose, adjust the beam by turning the lens cap. But, prepare for the lens cap to be very loose and annoying to you because the light is not apparently designed to adjust.I found the beam to get dim faster than advertised. It might stay lit as long as they say, but the brightness is too low to use at about 1/2 the time.I would recommend for use in camping or the like, but not for daily use for people who work with their hands. 3Very handy and works like a charm I bought 8; yes 8 of these for my children, their spouses and for me and my wife as prank xmas gifts thinking they/we would never use them. Last year I bought everyone nerf machine guns. OK I'm still trying to relive their(and my) childhoods.I have already used mine twice; once to go outside at night and unblock a snow drift around the inlet and outlet to our high efficiency furnace in the back yard during our blizzard in January 2014. Today I needed it to find a leak under the sink in the kitchen This headlight works perfectly; stays in place, directs the light where you need it; is plenty bright indoors and out and lets you adjust the angle as needed. I wasn't expecting this kind of performance but its looks like this is a winning combination at a reasonable price. I would recommend it for the type of uses that I have described. 5Best light, if only it lasted With the first light I bought I was very satisfied. It was small andlight weight, fit my head well, and had a good dispersal pattern.I would have given it 5 stars. However, a tab on the battery compartment cap (bayonette style) brokeafter changing the batteries less than 10 times.I am now using rubber bands to hold the batteries in. But, they either slipoff the cap , or the light flickers.I liked the light so much I chalked it up to a fluke, and ordered another.Same thing happened.Sorry to say, but now I'd give this one star. 1Flimsy. The light is sufficient but my rating is low because the plastic tab that holds housing in place is very flimsy. Mine broke the third time of light usage. If you never need to adjust the angle of the light, you could just zip tie it in place and never worry about the tab breaking. Or you could just order a better headlamp. Extremely disappointing for a Streamlight product. 1High value, hands-free task light This is a great value, and exactly what I needed. It is a great, hands-free task light. I have used it during power outages, to fix furnaces, assemble furniture, and set up a pop-up camper all season. It would probably be sufficient for slowly walking through the woods, or other dark areas. The throw is not very far, which is why it is better suited for a task light. It is very lightweight and aside from the headband around your head, you wouldn't even notice you had it on. It is comfortable enough and for the price, it has to be the best head-mounted task light out there. 5Decent Light Took this on backpacking trips. Was a handy light that fit comfortable on my head and lit up the space directly in front of me.Works well when also strapped to different things to light up areas.Battery life depended on the batteries. I had no problems with the bulbs, the strap or the plastic mounting the light was attached too.I did hope it would have a wider area for lighting. For the price, it functioned as expected. 4Great light for the bill of your hat The strap on this light is removable. The base of the light is designed to fit on a bill of a hat. I bought it for the hat bill feature and it works great. The light attaches securely to the bill, and it can tilt up and down. The light weighs very little and is not noticeable on the hat. I use this light daily on a visor for attic inspections. It also fits on the bill of my bike helmet for night bike riding. There is a high and low setting for the light output. The light out put on high is very good, but not as good as a high quality hand held tactical light. But I wasn't expecting that either. The lower setting is good for close up work or reading when you don't want blinding reflection. I would definitely buy it again. 5
