Customer Reviews

DIDN'T STAND THE TEST OF TIME I was satisfied with the light's function and output but at less than 2 years it stopped working. The light was used around the yard to put animals in at night. The light was stored inside my house in a dry heated room in its wall bracket. When it stopped working I disassembled it and found corrosion on the circuit board. Disappointing for an item intended for outdoor use. If a flashlight with a circuit board is going to hold up it needs to be truly waterproof and the circuit board needs to be properly coated against corrosion. Disassembly revealed poor design and poor assembly with lots of cost-cutting - no better than would be expected on a $20 light. 2Rugged construction with very bright beam I have the replaceable C cell battery version with a 12 volt power cord mainly for use on my boat. Impressive build quality - solid without being heavy. With my cheap lux meter I measured 95,000 candela output in the center beam using the 12 v power cord, alkaline C batteries, or AA lithium batteries (with C cell adapters). The manufacturer's claim of 100,000 is certainly reasonable. I measured 7,200 candelas vs a spec of 7,900 on low. It draws 2 amps on high from the internal battery pack. That's a pretty severe drain on alkaline C cells so I'd expect brightness to start dropping fairly quickly. I plan use lithium or rechargeable NiMH AA batteries with C adapters that will tolerate this draw better even though much smaller. It pulls .85 amps from external DC power.Pros- Trigger power switch that can be pressed lightly for momentary light or a little harder to latch on.- Separate mode switch rather than needing (annoying) multiple presses on the power switch- 12 VDC cord for car or boat (The rechargeable version provided no way to charge or replace batteries on my boat)- Uniform main beam with much reduced peripheral light (less glare off foreground objects)- Included wall mount holder- Comfortable in handCon:- This model is splash and dust resistant but not submersible. 5Light goes a long way! We purchased this light to be able to watch our dogs when they are outside at night. Our property goes back about 600 feet and our dogs are light colored. This light is absolutely bright enough at 600 feet to see the dogs. It is also very cool to be able to see the deer on the property, too.The only negative I can say about the light is that the handle is a bit short. I am an average size woman and the handle feels a bit short even to me. With that said, the light does not feel top-heavy in my hand and there is no loss of functionality because of the handle. We have had the light for only a week so I cannot speak to battery life yet. 5Cheap light This light puts out less light than a $15 Wal Mart flash light.VERY disappointed. I paid more for this light over others thinking I was getting a brighter quality light.I am a huge purchaser and this is my first negative feedback ever given but people should know what they are buying. 1It's ALMOST a perfect light! Super bright but.... I purchased this for my husband and he's only had it for a week and so far it's awesome! He charged it right out of the box and it's been 7 days and he hasn't had to charge it yet. He works in the South TX oilfields and it's pitch black when he's out there. He clips the light to this belt loop and it's lightweight and easy to grab and point. There are a lot of coyotes and dangers around him so he wanted a spotlight so he could get a look at what's going on around him when he's pulling oil from the wells. This light is super bright and has excellent range. He was able to illuminate a tractor and see it clear as day 100 yards away in the middle of a pitch black field. There is one complaint. The lens gets scratched REALLY easily and leaves annoying dark spots in the light. A more durable and scratch resistant lens would have been better, given the price of this light but besides that it's an excellent work light. 4BEST OF THE BEST Wow I don t think you can find better than this. Yes I purchased 2 for my self when I was traveling to Kenya East Africa and I gave shocker to everyone when I was in the remote areas at night with no electricity. This flashlight has bright lights better than the beam lights of a car. Please just buy it, I was able to watch monkeys and baboon sleeping on top of the trees and animals WOW 5Amazing light! After renting one of these lights during a cave tour in Central Oregon, I came home and bought one for myself. It is easy to use and one charge lasts a long, long time. I have two black dogs and they easily disappear into my backyard at night. A regular flashlight doesn't help me find them, but this big light illuminates half the yard. I can spot my dogs and holler for them to come back into the house. If they don't come right away, I know exactly where to find them! This light has also helped me spot raccoons and opossums in my yard so that I can keep the dogs indoors and out of trouble. I would totally buy this again. It would make a great gift. 5See it from the moon I received my light today. The photo shows that I am lighting up trees exceptionally well. I measured the large tree at the center of my beam to be 420 feet away. I m pretty happy with that! So far, so good. 5Ideal for my compact pickup ... As others have commented, the Waypoint is an exceptionally bright, compact source of light. Seems tight and well-put-together in all regards. I am sure it would be right at home in a law enforcement or rescue context. So far I am quite happy.I will place it immediately between the shifter and front seat of my pickup, where it will replace a Brinkmann Blue Max Marine Spotlight that has been there across two trucks, many replacement batteries, and 16 years. Because of its size, this light will fit the space BETTER.I doubt that I'll have any use for the "mounting bracket" that is made of black plastic and only provides minimal protection and support. (Wouldn't want to screw it down anywhere -- looks like the plastic would flex too much and maybe rip if you pushed the lamp in too firmly or pulled it out fast. However, the light can "wear" the mounting molding like a jacket -- at least this may keep the lens clean and un-scuffed.)There are two steel wire loops on top of the unit (I suppose for a shoulder strap -- unit is light enough that this will never be an option I purchase.) However, the wrist lanyard and the rubberized tube through which it is threaded are a nice touch. I will definitely use these, as well as the cord-lock that cinches the lanyard and keeps it from sliding over your hand. The Brinkmann was unbelievably bright and penetrating (although it got quite hot and had a short use time -- about 40 minutes -- on a full charge). I mention this because I have already used the Streamlight for about two hours on medium brightness and there has been no discernible reduction in its brightness. It also gets a bit warm, but NOTHING like the halogen bulb of its predecessor. This unit is much lighter, nearly as bright as the Brinkmann, water-proof, and offers a brightness-selector switch, also usable to control battery life. Most of these features are commonplace now, but were unavailable when the Blue Max was bought; I like all of them.Manufacturer's packaging is "minimalist," but sufficient to protect contents.110-V charger is small, unobtrusive, and functions well. Instructions said to expect a four-hour initial charge time; the green fully-charged indicator lit after about 1 hour. The flip-up top handle doubles as an adjustable base if you invert the unit. Adjustments on it are close together, giving you many angles from which to choose. The pivot for this base is TIGHT and seems as if it will not slip from one angle to another.I was surprised by the brevity of the owner's manual -- 1 sheet, glossy, folded into a "pamphlet" containing information in multiple languages.I wonder about the Li battery(ies). Nothing in the manual about replacement, and I tend to keep lights for decades (note beginning of review). A factory-replacement only part? I guess I'll find out after about 700 of the 800 promised recharges, LOL.On the whole, this has earned each of its 5 stars. Goodbye, "Old Blue Eye!" 5First let me say that this is an awesome light. Very well built Purchased this light in March 2012. First let me say that this is an awesome light. Very well built. Great visibility at night. I get about 6-8 months out of a set of batteries. I use this light several times a day and the the rest of my family are always grabbing for something. (dark corners in cabinets, poorly lit areas in the barn etc) We live in bear country (also coyotes, bobcats fox and more)When my dogs bark at night this is the light I take outside.About a month ago something went wrong wit the light. It would only light dimly on all settings. Called Streamlight looking to buy a replacement part. They asked what the problem was, and I told them. They said send it back to us and we will send you a new one, no charge. They did and even paid the shipping. I have purchased hundreds if not thousands of products through Amazon and I do not write many reviews, but I had to write this one. Streamlight builds great products and backs them up with superb customer support. Buy this light, you will not be sorry. 5
