It can also be used with a computer or Smart TV. Note that this is a USB 2.0 model. It you have a USB 3.0 port, and you need the faster throughput of USB 3.0, you should get a different model. Why did I get this? Manufacturers often place USB ports too close together, so that you can't use neighboring ports. This short extension solves that. However, this can also be used if you frequently plug and unplug things into a port, to keep the computer / Smart TV port in good condition. Although I bought this for my Raspberry Pi (with close ports), I'm actually using it now with my Smart TV (where I often swap out USB sticks or hard disks). The cable is short and very well-made. I'll probably buy a few more with my next Amazon order. They are very handy!5If you just need a couple of more inches for your USB device, this is perfect!Absolutely perfect. I bought these to use with FLIRC, so I can program my universal remote control to operate my Amazon Fire TV, which does not support infrared. FLIRC takes infrared and converts it to keyboard controls, so it tricks the Fire TV into thinking you have a keyboard plugged in. Because the USB port was at the back, this six inch cable let's me mount my FLIRC to the top of the Fire TV instead. Because it's such a small cable, I stuck a little tiny piece of two sided tape, so I could keep it attached to the Fire TV, otherwise the tension of the cable caused it to lift up a bit, a cosmetic-only problem.If you're looking to move a USB plug, but just a few inches, this is a great product, and incredible affordable. I bought a couple of extra to through in my gear back when I travel for work. I often need to install things via USB, and sometimes my flash drive is thick enough to bump up against an adjacent cable on the back of a customer's server. This is also useful to alleviate that problem.5not bad, but connector has wrong orientation, it is upside down...It has only one issue, but it is so frustrating for me that I took out two starts for this issue. Problem is that cable's one side is upside down relative to other side, if you are used to connect to computer something without this cable, say a USB Stick, and you are used it's original orientation, then when starting to use this cable and trying to connect the same thing using this cable, you will have to connect it now upside down, compared to how you would connect it to the computer directly. The cable itself is pretty short, between connectors it is shorter than my middle finger, and as you can imagine such a short cable do not twist around easily, so it preserves original orientations of connectors and it is mistake of manufacturer that they have not considered these factors. Ideally it should allow to connect things in the same orientation, as if you connecting the thing to the computer directly, but because of the design flaw it requires to connect things upside down. Maybe long cables of this type do not need to consider this as long cable can be twisted around and you can easily hold other end in any way you want, but for this kind of short cable orientation of connectors on either end matters very much.3Excellent for USB 2.0 connections. Good unless you're working with USB 3.0, such as with external HDDs and the like. Then you will need a USB 3.0 short extension cable.These short cables are useful if you have equipment that you must connect and disconnect on a regular basis. Instead of wearing your equipment USB ports, hook this up and wear this cable connector instead. When the dreaded day comes, simply replace this cable and your USB port will still be like new. 5Use it to make rigid dongles and devices less vulnerable.Highly recommended if you have a thumbdrive or security dongle that plugs rigidly into your USB port. Otherwise, with one inadvertent gesture or moving the computer, and your device and/or the port could be toast. Plug the device into this instead, and you've got an extra margin of safety. Should be standard procedure.5Firm adapter, nice cableMy son has an adapter for the Xbox to use a keyboard and mouse but pulled it wrong, breaking off the adapter portion that plugs into a device. I fit it back together and it works, but you can t unplug it without it pulling apart. I bought this cheap, plugged the keyboard adapter in and electrical taped them together so it can t ever be pulled apart. Now he just unplugs this extension and he s had zero issues. It s short but I wanted it short to match the original adapters size. Better than a $120 replacement for the Xbox adapter.5Short and good (also: black)This is a 6-inch extension cable for USB 2.0 devices, which I bought because one of my cables was just a tad too short but I didn't want a ton of excess cable; this fit that bill nicely. I'm sure a more common application is connecting things like USB flash drives or larger devices that don't have a cable and might block adjacent ports on some computers.As with any extension cable, one end of this is male (the end you connect to a computer) and the other is female (the end you plug the device/cable into). Most USB extension cables I've seen have the female end enclosed in plastic, but as you can see from the pictures of this cable, the female end is *not* enclosed, so you just have the bare metal outer part showing. This was actually desirable for me and is one of the reasons I chose this cable--it needed to fit inside my CordMate II, and I couldn't find an enclosed end that would fit. This one worked nicely for that. If you are just running extending a USB cable for normal purposes, this shouldn't matter--though you may actually wish to get one that *is* enclosed since it's less susceptible to damange. I actually had to return the first one of these I got to Amazon for a replacement because the female end was smashed in a bit and damaged.One final note: as I write this, Amazon's picture is beige. If it wasn't a $2.50 add-on item I would have sent it back for a new one but at least it works. 36-Inch USB Extension Cable is perfect for Flip camcorderI got two of these short 6-Inch USB Extension cables for myself and for my sister for use with the Flip camcorder. I have a Flip UltraHD camcorder and I gave my old Flip Ultra 2nd Generation camcorder to my sister. The color of the cable is a little off-white and you could say it matches the white Flip which is what we have. I recommend getting the shorter USB extension cable like this one if you have a macbook, laptop, notebook, or netbook. If you want a longer USB extension cable, look at the cables that are sold by Flip. Don't get a cheaper long USB extenstion cable because it may possibly not work. But a cheap short USB extension cable like the one here should work because it works for me. If you are connecting your Flip to a laptop, notebook, netbook, or a macbook, then you'll find this short 6-Inch USB Extension cable to be perfect.FYI, here is a longer 3-Foot (1-Meter) USB Extension Cable that wouldn't work for my Flip when plugged into my macbook. However, it did work with the Flip when plugged into a USB card that I had installed on the motherboard of a desktop computer. I think it could be hit or miss as to whether a longer cable would work with a Flip depending on the USB port that you plug into on your computer. BUT, again, if you have a macbook, laptop, notebook, or netbook, I would recommend that you get the much shorter 6-Inch USB Extension Cable.5Mission accomplished freedom of use!Well this does what it is supposed to do .... I had a pain in the neck of conector right by the puwer cord of my XPS ultrabook which meant that if I was pluged to the power... almost no USB could be plugged... this solved it with flying colors.
