DP2DVIS Working With 2048x1152 Resolution Monitor Successfully running 2048 x 1152 with the StarTech DP2DVIS. I upgraded my video card and found myself short a DVI connection for my second monitor; however, I had plenty of DisplayPort connections available, so I just needed a simple adapter that would support my 2048x1152 resolution while allowing me to use my existing DVI cable. I scoured the internet trying to understand whether or not the DP2DVIS adapter would support 2048x1152 resolution but was unable to find a definitive answer. Compounding the problem, many reviews fail to specify exactly which product is being reviewed. So I ended up buying the DP2DVIS without knowing for sure whether it would work for 2048x1152. Fortunately it did support 2048x1152 just fine and so I'm writing this review in the hopes of helping others who might be in the same situation. 4Supports 144hz for DVI-D 144hz Monitors Bought this product for my 1080 TI FE card to work with my DVI-D 144hz monitor.Since the adapted the 1080 TI FE comes with does not support anything more than 60hz I had to buy this pricey adapter to get my 144hz and it works wonders. Got it in the mail and it is just plug and play and I was using 144hz right away and what a difference it makes! 5This worked when the Apple adapter didn't I had a rather special situation--I wanted to connect my Raspberry Pi to an old Apple 30" CinemaDisplay at 2560x1600 resolution. First I purchased a QGeeM HDML to mini DisplayPort adapter, but this didn't work when I connected it to my Apple mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter (although it worked at 2560x1440 resolution when I connected it to my 2009 iMac with a thunderbolt cable). So I bought the StarTech adapter together with a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter for use instead of the Apple adapter, and it worked at 2560x1600 resolution with no problems. I needed to fiddle with some settings in the config.txt of my Raspberry Pi, and the trick seemed to be that I needed to overclock my Pi a bit. However even at these settings the Apple adapter didn't work.It also works with MacBook Air (2012, 13 & 15 models) that we have in the family, using the mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter. 5980 TI with 3 screens 144hz WORKS GTX 980 TI with 3 acer 144hz screens. The video card only has 1 DVI port and my screens do not have display port out. I bought 2 of these for the other 2 screens so I could run NVidia surround at 144hz across all 3 screens and it works gloriously!! 5144hz and all its glory Upgraded my computer recently with a new graphics card. It doesn't have a DVI-D port which I knew before I purchased but thought I'd be okay playing games with 60fps until I planned on buying a new monitor later this year. Side note; I was NOT okay. My BenQ XL2411 monitor lacks a DisplayPort so I needed a way to convert DP to DVI-D. Did lots of research and bit the bullet on this $100 adapter. It bothered me no other cables or adapters would do the trick since it seems you need this "active" adapter in order to get you 144hz.Connected adapter to a USB 3.0 port on the mobo with a Rocketfish DVI-D cable and worked like a charm. Windows 10 picked it right up once I changed Display Setting. Now gaming at 144hz again. No complaints.PROS:- easy to install- good quality- nice picture with 1920x1080p display @ 144hzCONS:- pricey for an adapter 5Displayport must be the SOURCE - NOT BI-DIRECTIONAL I have been on an insane journey to find a solution to convert a DVI dual link SOURCE (video card) to either HDMI or displayport (monitor) at 2560x1440 @ 60 Hz. Basically, older computer and newer monitor. Long story short, I don't think a product exists to do this. This Startech DP2DVID2 definitely does NOT do it.As a gift to anyone who is trying to do this, here's what I've found out:- DVI DUAL link will support 2560x1440 @ 60 Hz, 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz. DVI SINGLE link will NOT support these resolutions. DVI single link only goes up to 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz.- There are many older (c 2012) video cards that will support 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz, but only from the DVI dual link connector. These cards might have an HDMI connector as well, but the HDMI version is too old to support 2560x1600. Note that newer versions of HDMI WILL support 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz. From what I can tell it was this weird transition time when the older DVI standard was getting maxed out on bandwidth and HDMI was just starting to handle resolutions higher than 1080P.- Technical aside: DVI dual link has 24 pins plus the flat pin. HDMI has 19 pins. A passive adapter isn't going to get you from 24 pins to 19. It needs to be active. DVI single link only uses 18 pins, so a passive adapter is possible.- This Startech DP2DVID2 product, and a few others like it, uses an active (i.e. powered via the USB cable, little box of electronics) circuit to convert displayport to DVI dual link. It will connect a newer computer/video card to an older display. However this product is NOT BI-DIRECTIONAL. It will not convert a DVI dual link SOURCE to a displayport monitor. This was TOTALLY NOT OBVIOUS.- There is no product that I can find that will go from a DVI dual link source to HDMI/displayport. I've even called Startech and another place. Nada. It would have to be active (again, powered via a USB cable with a small box of electronics). It should be possible, but apparently no company feels there's a market.- All of the myriad DVI to HDMI/displayport converters that you will find on Amazon WILL NOT SUPPORT HIGH SCREEN RESOLUTIONS. They are NOT DUAL link DVI, even if the description says it's dual link, it's not. You will only get 1920x1200 max.- Should you try to get a newer video card for your c 2012 computer, you could run into another entire area of insanity about video cards, Windows 8 and beyond, and BIOS issues. Basically, even if the card fits into the computer (PCIe), the computer won't boot because of this BIOS brain damage in Windows 8 and beyond and a conflict with the video card. 1Add $100+ to the price of your new graphics card I needed this for my graphics card upgrade (Radeon VII), which only has 3 DisplayPort outputs and one HDMI output.I have an "old" QNIX (Samsung) IPS panel that displays 2560 x 1440 @ 90hz through DVI-D only. I decided to try this adapter instead of buying a new high refresh rate 1440p monitor (~$500) with a DisplayPort input. The adapter works perfectly. It's just as if my new graphics card has a Dual Link DVI-D port.I had a strange issue where the display worked, but it was covered in a layer of static / fuzz / noise, whatever you want to call it. I had to disable HDCP Support (HDMI Link Status Monitoring) in Radeon settings to fix the issue. I think this is an issue specific to AMD or maybe just the Radeon VII. I hope this info helps someone resolve their issue, as it took me weeks of research and troubleshooting to figure it out... 5Great adapter for displayport to DVI for 60Hz+ refresh at 1080p I bought a new videocard that no longer has any DVI ports. My monitor is a 144Hz, 1080p monitor that has a DVI and HDMI port. The HDMI port only grants 60Hz refresh, so I needed this adapter to access 60Hz+ refresh for my monitor.PROS: works as expected at 100Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz options. No configuration needed other than changing refresh rate in Windows.CONS: The price. It's expensive, but it was either this or buying a new monitor, and this is much cheaper than an equivalent monitor with displayports.Recommended if needing 60Hz+ refresh at 1080p. 5Great PASSIVE Adapter - Requires a ++DP Port Great Adapter. Be aware that this is a PASSIVE adapter. To use this, your device will need to have a dual-mode displayport. Your port MUST be labeled with a "++DP". If you do not see the "++", it is not dual-mode. If you only see "DP", you need an active adapter, which will be a little more expensive. See the attached image of the correct symbol you should see to use this adapter. 5Works as expected I purchased this item to use with a decade old Dell 3007WFP-HC. The 3007WFP provides only one dual link DVI connection - no HDMI or DisplayPort. The designed input to the 3007WFP is 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz. This item is well built (I was surprised to find that the casing is metal, not cheap plastic, giving it a ruggedized feel) and is powered by the USB cable. I had no problems using this item with an HP docking station that supports only DisplayPort connections. While expensive, it made my old monitor usable again and functioned as expected by converting the DisplayPort out of my docking station to dual link DVI operating at a resolution of 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz! 5
