6 monitors! Yes! I was finally able to set up my six monitor pc system! It has been running well since May of this year. This product works but I had to replace it for the 3 head one for my setup to work correctly.I had to to tinker with my monitor configuration but after a day or so I was able to set things up right. How this works will depend on your hardware setup etc. I installed this while running Windows 7 and when I upgraded to Windows 10 I am still having an issue where it recognizes only 5 of the six monitors at bootup! I have to press the reset button on the device and mess with the power button of monitor 6 but after a minute or so it configures correctly. I will eventually further troubleshoot this issue but for now this is an OK solution. I highly recommend this product! 5Two main troubleshooting tips I have to give The device works pretty much as expected but there are several issues that although not a problem with the device itself, will frustrate you a lot if you are not aware of them.These are the main tips for configuring and troubleshooting:1. Check your BIOS. Specially If you have a laptop with 2 VGA adapters, make sure the BIOS configuration is not an issue. I had to turn off certain features in order for it to work properly as the automated changes between intel and nvidia VGA cards created problems.2. Disable you monitor autoselect source. If your monitors have multiple inputs (such as DisplayPort, DVI and HDMI), set the monitors to the "DisplayPort" source specifically, rather than "Auto Select".These two simple changes made a world of difference in the behaviour of the hub, before those changes, occasionally, monitors would not wake from sleep and I lost count of the sum of hours I have spent power clycling the hub, the laptop and using the scan button on the hub. 4Works with Linux I am able to drive 3 monitors at 1920x1200 @ 60Hz each. Tested on 4.13 kernel with Xorg 1.19 and KDE 5.38. This thing splits the signal fine, but it will not magically add more displays than your GPU can handle. E.g. if you have a laptop with an Intel's GPU that can drive its own LCD and 2 external monitors through normal ports, then you could drive 3 external monitors connected via this gadget, but not the LCD at the same time.Flicker is the issue when you have different monitors that want different refresh rates. 4Startech help was very good, but in the end they couldn't fix it I had nothing but trouble trying to drive three 1920x1200 monitors and a 4k television from a Quadro K4200 GPU. Every time the system went into sleep or I logged out it would take a minimum 5 minutes to wake up. When it did come back, the monitor order was scrambled, and icons were all relocated. Startech help was very good, but in the end they couldn't fix it. I removed the MST and installed a Quadro M4000 GPU with 4 DP outputs (so no need for the MST) and all is well.I re-purposed the MST to another system driving three 1920x1200 monitors driven by the motherboard GPU and it works fine, so it ended well.The reason for the two stars is I called Startech prior to the purchase and described my application, and they told me it would work fine... they could have saved me a week of pulling my hair out trying to get it to work. 1Works as advertised, but be aware of known DP 1.2 bugs (wake up after sleep issue et al) The StarTech.com MSTDP124DP DisplayPort to 4x DisplayPort Multi Stream Transport Hub works as advertised. I have four monitors attached to it, all are working fine with this product.Setup was not as straightforward as suggested in the manual. After connecting the device (and the monitors) the PC should recognize all monitors after startup, however I had to reconnect some of the monitors a couple of times while the PC was running in order to get them recognized. It took me about 15 minutes and a couple of reboots in order to have the setup working.Pro-Tip: if one of your monitors does not get recognized immediately on startup, disconnect the monitor, reboot, and reconnect the monitor while windows is running. If two monitors are not getting recognized, disconnect both, reboot, connect ONE of the missing monitors, reboot again, THEN connect the second missing monitor.Please note that once windows has recognized all monitors it continues doing so, meaning no more hassle afterwards.Only con I can list has not really something to do with the product but with the DP 1.2 standard. Many users (also me) have issues with their monitors to wake up after sleep (it's a known DP 1.2 problem when using MST's and/or daisychaining according to google, forcing affected users to hard-restart the PC each time it happened). Only solution for me was to disable "turn off the display" and "put the computer to sleep" in the power options of windows.completely.Still, I prefer DP 1.2 over my old setup (external USB 3.0 graphics cards using displaylink technology), even with the limitation mentioned above, due to better performance.So, in a nutshell, if you want to run a multi-monitor through one displayport, go for the product, but be aware of the known bugs of DP 1.2 (which may or may not affect you). 4Stops working with 1st monitor after 3weeks, but after 4 weeks, stopped outputting to the minitors altogether Initially, this DisplayPort1.2 hub worked beautifully with my ASUS GL551J laptop (uses mini DisplayPort1.2 connector).It supports DisplayPort1.2, so monitors can be daisy-chained together.I used the hub to output video to 2 external monitors (ASUS VP278Q-P 27" monitors)1) After half a month, the unit does get around 50degree Celsius. (It was too hot to touch until I let it sit for a few minutes)2) As of last week, the DisplayPort1.2 hub stopped working for the right monitor, but continued to output video to the second monitor.3) As of 3 days ago, the left monitor will not work with the hub (both monitors now don't work with the hub)I am not sure if it is an Intel Graphics Driver issue or if the device is damaged internally due to the temperature change.My guess is since the monitors did not drop out at the same time, I am leaning the cause is most likely the displayport hub instead of the software driver on my laptopDo you have any recommendations as the seller? I do not have a way to diagnose the DisplayPort1.2 hub.I included pictures of the Windows 10 settings where Windows can see the monitors, but the monitors are not able to be selected as a display output.I also included the Device Manager view (it now thinks the monitors are 640x480 instead of normal monitor resolution). This picture has the Intel display driver as well. 1WORKS GREAT... just not for Apple products. Startech 3-in-1 works great for PC's. I bought this for a Mac and didn't ealize that Apple is not onboard with running dual or triple monitors. If you connect this to a macbook or the like it will only mirror both or three screens. I spoke with StarTech and they explained this to me. Their customer service was great and I was able to instant message with a rep. Took all of 5 minutes or less to get it figured out.I think connected it to a HP laptop that I have for work and it works great! I connected 2 22 inch dell monitors and a 40 inch LG tv just to see how it would work. Everything was crystal clear and worked perfect. 5 stars for StarTech.com and no stars for Apple since they don't support the capability of running multiple monitors through a single connection. 5Does what it's supposed to do when it works. This works exactly like it is supposed (turn 1 MDP port into 3 DP out signals to drive 3 different monitors). When it does work.The power in connection is "touchy". Sometimes I'll see that my additional monitors are off when they should be displaying an image. I have to push the power plug in to the hub firmly- even though it is already seated to it's maximum possible depth. If the power cable ever pulls away from being completely seated in the input jack on this hub, by even the slightest amount (nothing you could see and only something you may be able to feel), this is enough to stop delivering power to this hub.It will look plugged in. It will feel plugged in. But I'll have to twist and push in order for it to come back on.Not a deal breaker, but something that I found to be unexpected. It's annoying. I've resorted to using cable wraps to apply some connection tension on this plug to ensure it always receives power.Meh. It wasn't bad enough that I returned it, but something like this may indeed make you cranky enough to do so. 3Our corporate standard for user and kiosk multi-monitor display solutions StarTech's DisplayPort hub solution is the multiple monitor hub that we have standardized to use for all of our corporate desktop, notebook and tablet use. Initially we introduced the StarTech Mini DisplayPort to 3x DisplayPort hub for all of our Microsoft Surface Pro3 users with a Surface dock running either 2 or 3 displays. We've continued to use the StarTech solution for DisplayPort to multi-display for our currently deploying Dell Optiplex 9020Micro and Dell 9020 Small Form Factor desktop pc's and Dell/HP notebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles.Manufacturers have finally begun standardizing all new computers with MiniDisplayPort/Thunderbolt or Displayport displays, supplanting the vise grip of legacy VGA, DVI and retail HDMI connectivity. This is great because it allows the use of the newer displays that support DP connections, but it also provides us with a useful method of connecting the existing legacy monitor with new PC's with adapters. StarTech's DisplayPort Hub is aligned with its adapter modules, to provide a single manufacturer supported hub to many output displays (DP, MiniDP, VGA, DVI, HDMI) using the correct StarTech conversion adapter. Thankfully the solution is cost effective and can be used with Startech ST121SHD50 HDMI CAT6 transmitter/receivers to increase the distance of the PC from large HDMI presentation screens considerably.All of the Startech displayport video connectivity solutions mentioned in this review are in active use as a standard for my corporate customers and I use them at home as well. There was no product provided by the vendor for this glowing review - they just work that well. 5Working like a charm with Surface Pro 3 i5 and Asus Monitors I wanted to connect two monitors I have to my Surface Pro 3. After doing a research, I found out that there are few dependencies to get to extend your SP3 to 2 additional screens, one of them is the model of the SP3 you have.Anyway, after buying this, I managed to connect my 2 ASUS monitors using a DisplayPort -> HDMI cables. These cables were connected to this piece of Mini Display Port that I bought from Amazon and it's working well.Now, when I bought this piece, I wanted to use it for my SP3 as well as for me MacBook Air. That being said, it did not work with MacBook Air which I have.After doing a research, I found out there are few elements a person should research before buying or investing in such a piece.1. Make sure your graphics card is capable of extending into few additional monitors and the resolution it can extend into to. (It was important for me to get the SP3 to extend at 1920*1080 on both 27" monitors. Without a graphics card that can do that, this piece may not be able to give achieve this.2. Make sure your get the right cables. I got this piece and I overlooked the fact it is Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort converter, I "assumed" it was to HDMI. Nonetheless, I managed to go to a local shot and instead of buying DisplayPort to HDMI converters, I invested in 2 DisplayPort to HDMI converters. Some of the cables I tried at the shop were faulty and hence after trying 5, we managed to find 2 that were working.3. Finally, make sure the graphics card driver is up to date. Check the driver website of your monitor manufacture and download/install the latest drivers.Good luck! 5
