Time DOES tell... After reading that many people had received knock-off Speck cases through Amazon my husband and I decided to run an experiment. We had just purchased new phones and needed cases for them. We ordered his Speck case from Speck.com and mine was purchased through Amazon. While both of the cases came in Speck packaging with the paper inside and both seemed to be of the same quality and cut, mine has not held up like his has. Both of our phones have been protected from several falls (his flew off the car roof while we were going 70 mph and only the case was scratched :) ) so the protection level has been equal. However, the rubber lining around the edge of mine has disintegrated significantly in areas that receive a lot of touch. The buttons are considerably worn down as is the lining near the buttons and near the charger plug-in. The plastic edge underneath the rubber is also not smooth. I have had the case for about a year and noticed the disintegration after probably six to eight months. My husband's rubber lining is in perfect condition, however. I would not purchase another case through Amazon. Go to the actual website of the case that you want and purchase there. 3Didn't fit properly I really wanted to like this case! I ordered it when the price dropped dramatically, excited to be able to find a Speck case for my new S3 at a price that didn't break the budget. I watched the videos by Speck on how to insert my phone into the case and followed those, but I couldn't ever get the ports to line up properly. When I tried to plug my earbuds in (I tried 2 different pair) the case prevented them from being plugged in securely, then the raspberry layer peeled away from the earbud port. This case might be great protection, but it renders the phone quite difficult to actually use and charge. I actually wonder if this could be one of the counterfeit Speck cases I've read are pretty common.Pro: The case looks beautiful and is probably great protectionCon: The case doesn't correctly line up to the ports, buttons are difficult to push, raspberry inner layer peels away. 1Best case I've found for the S3 This is my third Speck case for my S3. The design is very good. The case protects the screen very effectively without being cumbersome. If you're like me you've seen those bulky cases that increase the thickness of phones by 3 or 4 times the unprotected phone's thickness. The Speck case keeps the phone slim, the unobtrusive rubber lip protects the screen from impact. The case covers the buttons, but retain excellent functionality (the buttons are easy to push using the case's buttons). Overall a good design, but it has some issues. First, the slot for the micro usb port doesn't accommodate all micro usb cables, and as a result the usb slot cracks and the rubber bumper becomes damaged on the bottom of the case. The rubber bumper also wears down over time, imperceptibly, but it eventually wears down to the point it is no longer capable of protecting the screen. But like I said its a pretty good case, I haven't found a better one, and I've looked! 4Works More or Less I wanted something stylish to cover my new phone and this does the trick. It doesn't add a lot of bulk and fits well. My only complaint is that the hole for the headphone jack is not properly aligned. You have to take the cover off to access it. It's annoying but since I don't listen to music via headphones very often, it's not disappointing enough to return for a refund. Especially since I spent over an hour researching various cases!Update: I have had this case for nearly six months now. It's done a good job of protecting the phone, however, the pink rubberized edging has become damaged. I suppose at one point I dropped the phone and the edging tore. It has pulled away from the main case now and looks pretty crappy so I am getting ready to upgrade to an Otterbox Commuter case in a few weeks. So I would recommend this case if you are not hard on your phone, otherwise, be prepared for the rubber edging to come loose with use. 4Protection with color and not too much bulk My Speck cover arrived today, and I was very happy with the color. In my mind, it's exactly the color of the Sea Green Crayola crayon that was my favorite as a kid. It's a little yellower than the website shows. I gave it 5 stars even though the buttons are a little stiff to push, because of the protection the cover affords. FYI, the salesman at the AT&T store recommended the product, and threw his Samsung Galaxy III S on the floor to show how well this cover protects. He also repeatedly banged the face on the counter to demonstrate how the lip sticks up just a smidge to protect the face. I don't plan to abuse my phone in that manner, but it sure was impressive. My son has had the cover (different color) for 3 months now, and is still happy with it. Good cover, great price, cutouts in the right places, not too sticky to slide into a pocket, phone is still slim...go for it! 54 stars is almost perfect This is one of the best case brand you can get for any phone (I have one for my Atrix too) It's the thinnest most protective you can get, other than this it gets too bulky.It's rubber on the inside to protect shocks, and hard plastic on the outside for extra protection and you can slide it in your pocket easy. It also protects the screen if you lay your phone upside down on a table (I always lay it upside down) because it has enough rubber on the front of the screen.IMPORTANT:I took 1 star because it's a case to leave it on all the time, if you start to take it off and on constantly it will start to separate the hard shell from the rubber.ALSO the charger whole is made only for the charger, it WON'T fit the MHL/HDMI addapter for the TV (you have to remove the case in order to use the MHL/HDMI addapter and it started to peel off).And... it scratches easily (the hard shell). 4Great case...BUT... I reviewed and compared SO many cases for the Samsung SIII. This is the one I finally decided on. It is perfect. Fits like a charm. Love the color and the color options available from Speck. I originally searched the internet for top/highly rated SIII cases, ended at cnet and went from their for my own comparisons and preferences. I am not rough with my phones so this case is perfect for me. As for protection, I am sure an occasional 'light' drop won't hurt the phone with this case. Make sure you also purchase screen protectors. My 17 year old wants the SIII for xmas, she will be getting an otterbox for hers... but I LOVE my Speck case! Shipping was speedy too :)UPDATE:Have to say, I am no longer happy with this case. The silicone 'trim' around the sides is such a nuisance. I am very careful with my phone, only keep it in my purse. No way would you be able to slide this case in your pocket. Maybe at first, but after a while it starts sticking, particles from the silicone create smudges on my screen protector. I can't stand the thing. Also broke on the plastic part where the charger goes - no big deal, didn't even notice until I was removing the case. Not worth the $30+Although I saw some reviews saying they were selling fake Speck cases, so possibly got a fake?? Just don't think for the amount of $$'s shelled out, that it should not be more quality material - not even 6 months yet...and believe me, I take good care of my phone...Just purchased a Belkin case. We'll see how that goes. 3Sturdy facedown phone saver! Easy press buttons, easy Plug in charger and headphones with case still on! I like it. Sturdy, has saved my phone several good drops. Even facedown drops where i gasped afraid to look but it has saved my screen every time. Buttons are easy to press to! and I can still charge while in case. I have had others where I had to remove the case to charge or plug in headphones or press buttons really hard but not with this case. I really like it a lot. I just wish there was a white and blue or blue green option like the white and pink one.Looks good too! not too thick or bulky. 5One of the best cases available for the Galaxy S3 I have been using Speck Candyshell cases for my previous phones for a while now. It all started with my HTC Inspire. I got the white Speck Candyshell and instantly fell in love with it.Now I purchased the case for my Galaxy S3, and I still LOVE this case. The case adds very little bulk to the phone, and actually makes it more pleasant to hold. The glossy texture looks glossy, but it has a nice coating making it easy to hold, so it will not slip out of your hand. The case adds a lip so you can place your phone face down and it will not get scratched. The dual-layer coating adds great drop protection.The volume and power buttons are very slightly harder to press, but not enough to cause annoyance. The power and volume buttons have a very nice feedback that makes them enjoyable to push and you will definitely know when you have pushed them.The one minor flaw is that the case scratches extremely easily. I haven't even had mine for 2 days and there are tons of tiny scratches on the black, easily noticeable in direct light. I had this issue with the Speck Candyshell for my other phones too, but it doesn't bother me too much. If you get the white one the scratches are barely noticeable. Only the black one has very noticable scratches in bright light. This isn't an issue for me though.The case is a little expensive, at thirty-five USD MSRP, but it is a fantastic case. I highly recommend this case to anyone who is looking for a fantastic looking case with great drop protection! 5First purchase counterfeit, second purchase authentic -- check carefully before buying I ordered the malachite Speck case through MF Manufacturers. What was delivered was a mint green counterfeit. There are several Youtube videos that show in detail how to identify the counterfeits. This case looked awful (toothpaste colored), the cut-outs were ragged and the volume and power button covers did not have the internal nubs to make them easy to use.Dec 1 UPDATE:I am updating this review to include the information in a reply to a review comment:It's important for those buying the case on Amazon to know that many of them, particularly the ones through 3rd party sellers, are in fact, counterfeit cases. I did provide negative feedback on the seller (and got an abusive message in reply, thank you very much). I also did re-order the case, a different color, through Amazon directly. It is an authentic Speck case and quite good --best of the 3 cases I've bought for the S3. If I could write 2 reviews, distinguishing between the authentic and the counterfeit case, I would.Something else to point out -- if you look at the Amazon Warehouse, they have a lot of these used, not new in box, "Speck" cases for sale. I suspect that many of these are the returned counterfeit cases.It's disappointing to see that so many counterfeit cases are being sold on Amazon. I'd expect that on ebay (and why I don't buy there) but had assumed, incorrectly I guess, that Amazon had more oversight on the 3rd party sellers. 1
