Customer Reviews

This adapter plug does not fit iPhone, iPad plugsWe purchased this 4 pack specifically for our trip to S. Africa. It was useless for our Apple devices, iPhone and iPad. As you see in the first picture, there is a vertical stop that prevents a tight fit. I tried the other sides but it showed no power charge. I ended up buying a plug directly from the hotel in S. Africa and was a tight fit as you see in the photo. Very disappointed in the plugs. 1It's a pretty good product for the priceThese plug adapters worked pretty well for using USA plugs in South Africa. Having the two outlets was useful, and getting 4 plug adapters for the price we paid was great. The problem we had was that they didn't always fit or set in the wall outlets correctly so you had to fidget with it a bunch to get it to work sometimes. But once you got the right angle, they worked fine. We used them in at least 5 different outlets and seemed to have the same problem most of the time. Everything charged and worked fine, other than that so we're glad we had them. 3Beware: poor build quality, don't workI've used these adapters of various types on prior trips without issue, but on my last trip to South Africa I ordered the type M plugs and only 1 of 4 functioned properly and even then I'd have to spend several minutes fighting with the plug (how far to insert into wall, how far to insert utility plug into adapter, twisting and contorting to try and make connection, etc). I know it wasn't the outlet itself either as I had the same frustration at all the various cities I stopped at.Maybe I just got a bad batch, but stuff like this need to "just work" since there isn't any way to test until you actually need it! 1Not South African Plug TypesOrdered 6 boxes of the 4-packs (24 total) for our school in South Africa. However, although the boxes are labeled South Africa Adapter Plug (Type M), they ARE NOT. What was received in each of the boxes was German/France Adapter Plug (Type E/F). As can be seen in the pics, the South Africa type is a large 3-prong plug. Now they sit in South Africa unable to be used by the school. A waste of time and money! When I read the reviews before buying, I noticed this same thing happen to other customers. It would be nice if there was better quality-control on these items. 1Make sure you receive what you ordered. I could not enter zero stars. The photo on the left shows what I supposedly ordered - three prongs. The photo on the right is what I received - two prongs. It was completely useless. I encountered in South Africa not a single receptacle that would accept the adapter I received. I doubt that the adapter on the left would have worked. The 3 pins are too close to each other. There are two type of outlets I encountered: (1) a long, fat pin and two shorter and thinner pins on a wide triangle and (2) a thinner log pin and two even thinner short pins on a smaller triangle. Type (1) I found everywhere. Type (2) I found only in one hotel (one among many type (2). Don't give a hoot to the "definite" information on the website what you need for South Africa. Buy the adapter when you get there - at the airport or at the first hotel. 1Great Adapter, if it isn't defective.Used these for a 2.5 week jaunt in SA, and 2/4 worked. Two just didn't work right out of the box. Those that did were great, and worked the entire trip to charge my iPhone and iPhone-USB other devices without any worry. Would buy again at 50% of the price for the 50% success rate. 3the adapters were not the correct ones for South AfricaI didn't like anything about the product because it was the wrong one. I ordered adapter plugs for South Africa electrical outlets, but that is not what I received. I have no idea which type of plug it was, but it didn't fit in the outlets. 1Did more then I expectedThe type M adapters for Sputh Africa exceeded my expectations. They do more then I expected. On one end they can handle a U.S. three prong, and on the top you can plug in a U.S. two prong at the same time. They can also handle a series of other types in addition to U.S. plugs. The most popular being from what I can tell as B type plugs. These are used in South Africa for chargers and some other consumer electronics. This was very helpful as our loaner cell phone used this type of plug and also a WiFi extender I bought for our rental house. A UK plug type G also fits into this which was helpful as my travel 220-110 converter utilized that functionality. This was also very sturdy and felt well built. I put these in my outside suitcase pocket in checked luggage. While the airline managed to break more secured items these four did not break. 5Barely workedI got a four pack for South Africa. I didn't need to take all four on my trip, so just took two. Of these two, only one would pass any current. And on this one, only one of the two outlets worked. I had to really rig this thing up to charge my devices and was never really sure if it do the job. Now I've returned from my trip and it's too late to return to Amazon. So, I'm stuck with these unreliable adapters. 2South Africa plugsI purchased a set for our long-term stay in South Africa. Three of them work good - one of them stopped working. They are a little finicky so the plugs have to be in just right. I wish I had purchased more. I like that you can fit European plugs in them as well since many electronics purchased here have that style of plug so we don't have to purchase additional adapters for things such as our lamps, blender, etc. - this is especially helpful with how few plugs you can find in a typical room (1... 2 if you're really lucky). 4
