Customer Reviews

Great sounding for the price, but there are other issues First off, these headphones sound great considering their price. The lows are very good and I find the earbuds fit very well. I really wanted these headphones to work since the sound was so good. However, here are the downsides that caused me to return them:1) The microphone is horrible. Every time I attempted to use the microphone, the people on the other end of the call complained of an inaudible, muffled voice. Unfortunately, I need my headphones for phone calls as well as music. If you don't need the microphone, then I can recommend them for listening only.2) The neckband is too short. I nearly lost the earbuds twice within a 5 min period because they would slip off of me or fall off when taking my suit coat off.3) Lack of controls. While the controls provided are ok, then really need to give the user the ability to rewind or go back in the playlist. All you can do is move forward to the next song.Again, if you don't need the microphone, then the sound is good enough that it negates the neckband and lack of controls. However, one other beef I have is I have submitted two support tickets to the manufacturer with neither being answered (outside of an acknowledgement that I would hear from someone soon). Thank goodness for Amazon's support - they have granted me a return authorization. 2FINALLY! BLUETOOTH with BASS and VOLUME! This is long but so was my search for the perfect earbud set for me. Started with Sony Extra Bass MDRXB50AP with my Samsung Galaxy Note5. 12mm driver for brain-shaking bass euphoria that makes you not care how you look movin it when that heavy bass song starts!! Until the day that thw wire catches on something rips out of 3.5mm plug. Heartbreak when I still had half the yard to finish cutting. Fun was over. So, much, bass. Not too good vocal clarity but I'm a basshead so they worked for me. Another pair?? Nah, think I'll switch it up. So with my original Samsung buds to use, the white ones that came with the phone but were pretty decent, I started the search. I knew that I wanted wireless but I was going to sacrifice bass. I looked for the unheard of, Bluetooth earbuds with bass. In comes the Sennheiser Momentum in-ear wired earbuds, red/black. I know, wired. I couldn't find anything good, at that time, in wireless. Had a pair of wireless Sennheiser's headphones 10yrs ago and loved them. I felt they would be sweet even in wired and the description said powerful bass. Deal! Back to wired but no bass sacrifice. The box came and they are the sleekest set of earbuds I ever owned. Fired them up and a new sound flows through my ears, vocal clarity. Amazing!! Sounded like someone was standing on my shoulders with multiple speakers surrounding the back of my head so I can hear every 3D surround sound detail of every song! BUT, no matter how I adjusted the EQ, I couldn't get more bass. Wish I had my Sonys back. Started researching driver size, frequency, performance ratings yadayadayada. I temporarily lost my mind looking for Sony comparable bluetooth earbuds. So the Samsung Level U Pro slides through the door like they knew that I was a Samsung Loyal. Read the reviews and was very happy about what I saw. They are going to go great with my Samsung ensemble! They arrived, from Amazon, and I couldn't wait to try them on. Around the neck and not the typical earbud shape I was used to. Turned out to be very comfy to wear all day and no discomfort in my ear after a good 8hr stretch of music. The sound was so harmonious that even though I had to know how Samsung made this happen, there was still something missing. I was starting to accept trading bass for amazing clarity and complete button functionality for my phone. Maybe this can work. Then the bluetooth started to cutout after a week. I read 1 review out of the 20+ reviews that mentioned this issue. If it wasn't for that annoying problem I would still have them. Back to the wired Samsungs but I ordered the extra bass Sony wired earbuds. I was frustrated and tired of looking. Am I too picky? Do I need the music to sound like it's being played through the same speakers that Mozart, Steven Tyler and Dr. Dre would have in their mansions?? YES!!!! Went to BestBuy to look some more and got roped into the LG Tone Infinim HBS-910 at $34 discount from price matching Amazon. Couldn't say no and read very good reviews. Most expensive pair of headphones I've ever owned, discounted. Win! It's LG. Life's Good. Throw them on and, OMG! Harmon Kardon speakers!!! Are you kidding??!! So tiny, so powerful, so balanced, so crisp and clear. But not in my life. It wasn't the sound that turned me off. It was the novelty that the speakers are hooked to. Angel Hair pasta thin speaker wires? Booooo. Retractable angel hair thin speaker wires? Cool until the left side would get half inch from retracting fully. Booooo. Grab my Sony wired from BestBuy and leave. Throw them on and immediately reached bass righteousness. Which was short-lived. I missed the clarity that I never had and didn't know I wanted til I had it. A quick search out of frustration floats me, with no determination or passion, towards the SOL Republic Shadow Wireless headset. Saw them alot but kept bypassing. They looked good though and are affordable. That's it. Use the Sonys until they arrive. No rush but while I was waiting, I must have ripped the Sonys out of my ears and phone over a dozen times in the 3 days I had them. I needed wireless. I settled on SOL. They arrive, I pair, I play with no expectations. Until the bass hit. WHAT THE??? Was that bass? And it shook my brain, a lil. Turn it up. Volume? Loud?! Wait, I have to turn it down? Whaaaat? Now I'm getting excited. Bluetooth with Bass and they are loud?! Who the heck is SOL REPUBLIC!? Never heard of them til now. I didn't even listen to a full song and deemed my journey officially over! Enjoyed them so much that I had to write this Uber long review that nobody will probably read but had to write it down. Sorry that I don't know who SOL REPUBLIC is but by the end of Thursday, I will. This gear has made me realize that I wasted so much time inside the box and I have to journey outside the big name box more often. I may be ridiculously surprised. This has been a long time coming and I've read countless articles saying this technology combination does not exist and won't be here for quite some time. Or you would have to have the APT-X audio codec to get close to wired sound with BT. You have to sacrifice one for another. For my ears, SOL REPUBLIC knew that someone with my particular taste in sound will one day ask for a crazy thing like Bluetooth with Bass and great volume. Thanks Amazon for having this much space to write. I'm done and my new SOL REPUBLIC SHADOWs are charged. Finally back in the wireless zone. 5Terrible, awful, no good. Really unreliable headphones. Frequently does not connect to my devices, turns itself on/ off frequently, disconnects when music is playing, often reports having a low battery even after overnight charging. This is my second pair and within months of use, like the first pair I had, the sound out of the left ear is completely dead. Way over priced for the performance and quality. Now the sound is so low that I can't hear anything on them except the power up/ power down sounds. I want my money back :( Won't repurchase or recommend. 1Only okay. For starters, I bought these 10 months ago and the left earbud has stopped working. As far as a standard product review, I agree with a few other reviewers whom commented that they're too short to stay around your neck if you do not have both earbuds in. At work, I normally only have one in so I can answer the phone and speak with co-workers without having to take an earbud out every time. It's not long before I'm startled by the other earbud falling down the back of my shirt and pulling at the other earbud. Also, I cannot answer the phone in public through the headset because the person I'm talking to always says the background noise is so loud they cannot hear me. This is while sitting in a fairly empty coffee shop or restaurant with no one talking around me. Just overhead music and an open room, so I can only use it when I'm in my office or at home. That's a problem. The charging is really my only true plus. I start a podcast at 8am and can listen straight until 2 or 3 pm before I have to charge it. I can then do a quick 20 minutes or so charge and it lasts me my last few hours of work and then I charge it on my drive home.Overall, I say, do not buy this unless you only care about the play/talking time/charge. So what do you buy? I've not clue, if you have any suggestions please let me know. I'm off to read more reviews since I now have to replace these. 2I'll start with the things I like about them I'll start with the things I like about them. They look good. They don't look, or feel cheap. They sound good. The ear buds stay in my ears, and they are comfortable. The things I'm not so happy about. The part that goes around your neck does not stay still. It's always moving to one side, and ends up looking stupid. I have to constantly reposition them. Yes they sound good, but the sound didn't blow me away. I don't know if this is a problem for everyone or just me, but they take a while to connect, sometimes they don't connect, and I have to turn them off, and on again. This bothers me the most.Even though there when things about them I don't like I'm still glad I baught them. I recommend them if you can get them for a good price. I wouldnt pay full price for these. 3These are super annoying earphones - And bad quality too. These are the most annoying earphones ever. THEY DO NOT STAY ON. Even though the sound is good, the fit is nice for the ear pieces, they don't send you a darn clip to keep these in place if you're not wearing them. They constantly slide off even when I'm not doing anything other than sitting at my desk working. So annoying! I can't give these anything but one star for this issue. They didn't make the neck piece long enough or heavy enough to stay put. They could have provided a clip to help with this, but they didn't even do that. And, they do not have a case to carry them in either. I'd skip on these if you can.EDIT: August 7th, 2017 - The left side of these have lost all of the low tones, so no bass whatsoever. My return and support windows are closed, so I can't even get them replaced after only having them for a little over 3 months. Too expensive of a price for bad quality earphones that aren't made to stay on. Terrible. 1Expensive but for what? The same day i purchased these for $99 a lONG TIME AGO i also bought some $24 multi-sport ones for $25. I thought i would use these for serious conversations and the other for workouts. What happened was the quality on these was no greater than the cheaper ones, nor was the range, nor was the length of battery charge. These were heavy and as I wore them over time, people started to say the quality of my voice was hard to hear. Worse it would run out of battery mid-sentence and then leave me hanging - then magically turn back on when re-charged and I was mid-sentence in a phone call in the other room. I found myself NOT using these over the next few months, preferring my sporty ones, or even my tethered Apple headsets. This is the story of a mediocre headset that somehow got to charge a lot of money and got away with it. 2I've been using the LG HBS700 (and 730 and 750) for the past 4 or 5 years and have been generally happy with them I bought these after researching Bluetooth headphones for use at the gym, but with a particular emphasis on sound quality. This headset was at or near the top of several review lists I found. I've been using the LG HBS700 (and 730 and 750) for the past 4 or 5 years and have been generally happy with them, but found LG HBS sound quality decent, but not inspiring. . The Shadow seemed to be the solution.Since I use them at the gym, I much prefer an in-ear design since over-ear designs would trap heat and sweat (no thanks!). When I got the Shadow and tried them out at home, I was impressed. In comparison to the LG models I've used, the Shadow DOES offer much better sound quality - comparable to similarly priced over-the-ear headphones, with plenty of bass punch, but also plenty of clarity in the mid and upper ranges. Then I took them to the gym. I very quickly noticed a problem. The around-the-neck part of this headset is pretty short. At least a couple of inches shorter than the similar LG design. I'm not a huge guy, fairly average-sized. The shortness of the Shadow's design WILL create a problem for averaged-size men when doing any 'bouncy' activities, like running or elliptical. The unit will continually move until it is practically falling off one side of your neck. In fact, you don't even have to be doing anything that intense for this to happen. It's REALLY annoying and I did not have this issue with the LG design, simply because they are longer (ie hang down around the neck further).Pros: sound quality, build quality, weather resistant designCons: single-button track control (no rewind/back function), short design makes it unsuitable for anything that's cardio intensive. Conclusion: IF sound quality is your primary concern, AND your neck size is no bigger than a medium, AND you don't intend to use them when running or other intensive, vertically oriented activities (horizontal is completely out of the question...ie-bench press), this headset is very good. 3lasted 2 months Performance ok. Reliability not. After 2 months of receiving them one of Left/Right channels reduced in volume by around 80%. Now unusable. And there is no way I can return / have repaired with this seller. You have 1 month to return only. I've now googled many other people having same problem, and, like me, they probably didn't bother checking up reliability issues either. 1Super short neck These had such great reviews on CNET which is ultimately why I picked Sol Republic. These do look pretty and they sound fine. My low rating is due to the neck band and sound. The neck band is entirely too short. After it fell off the first time I looked mine over assuming they must adjust since they looked to be the prefect length in their ad videos but there isn't an adjustment. I bought these for work to replace my dying LG's. So far in the two days that I've had them I've had them fall off 7 or 8 times.....and I work on a computer all day. I'm sure if the neck back was just a little longer that issue would not happen at all.The sound is also something that II noticed. The volume when you go from mute to the first setting is substantial. If you're looking for something that will play music quietly, this is not the right choice. The overall sound is nice and full. I do not have a heavy not of bass in mine as some have mentioned. The pro's is that these are so light weight, soft and comfortable. When they weren't falling off I'd forget I had them on since you hardly feel them at all.If a couple of changes are made to the product I think Sol Republic will have an absolute winner. 1
