Customer Reviews

Guts okay but base very, very feebleIts low price was a major sale point, but there were two problems with the lamp almost immediately. It stopped working abruptly, which necessitated opening the base. That problem was a broken wire. Easily fixed, but when the base was opened, the weights inside proved to be chunks of concrete in sandwich bags! They weren't formed, and looked as if they had simply been picked up at a building site. They were also not heavy enough to keep the base stable. The base itself is thin plastic. Problem #2 occurred when the lamp head was moved into position and the area where it attaches to the base fractured; the plastic also distorted, making it impossible to reattach.Even if had been possible, two problems in two days of use is one too many. The lamp was returned. 1Not horrible, but I've owned better....Definitely provides good light, and the magnification is ok. The gooseneck is extremely inflexible, however. This can be very frustrating when I'm working up close on projects and can't get the lamp adjusted to the proper height/position to be able to see the fine detail. I end up having to move my head to adjust for the distance, instead of being able to put the lens where I want it. I make woven/hand-stitched jewelry, and use very tiny seed beads, so holding my head at an awkward angle for any length of time is uncomfortable and painful, at times.Prior to buying this lamp, I owned one by another mfr. that was in the same price range as this one, but had a bit more magnification and the neck was much more easily adjustable. I had to replace it because the bulb burned out and the bulb was not replaceable.I do enjoy the small 4.5x spot lens magnifier on this lamp; it comes in handy on many of my pieces. But, again, getting the neck of the lamp adjusted properly to make the best use of the spot lens isn't always possible.... 3Buying a new one...after 7 years******New one only 9 months.Mine just died...the switch just wore out...after 7 years. Purchased in 2011. Replaced the bulb once. About to purchase a replacement. Magnifier is okay, but the light works well.***Nov 2018***As stated, my first died after seven years. The new one only lasted 9 months. Gave 5 stars to the first, but the current model only rates a 3. 3It's True, The Little lamp that could.Easily worth the money. I bought a $60 lamp with LED's all the way around. Everything about it was 5 stars.... except for the lights. Very dim. Sent it back and bought this one.The fluorescent light is POTENT For Sure! Very crisp and clean. That's incredibly important. Magnification and lens is excellent for getting your detailed work done. Cord's 3 feet long. No big deal grab an extension. The base is stable and sturdy though it could be a little heavier. Not a deal breaker at all. The tube/neck from the base up is about 3 inches solid, after that it's completely flexible twisting turning etc... Well thought out design for positioning. Good looking well rounded design. It's true, don't spend the big bucks on something else. Price slash performance this is the one. Excellent footprint, takes up little room. Not big and bulky. When I turned it on the light output was Amazing. I whispered to myself, WOW that's what I wanted. Happy Illumination! 5 Stars 5Good light, good valueUsing for light pistol gunsmith duty and so far it's serving me well. Just getting illumination closer to my work via the easily adjustable lamp arm and head is worth what I consider a nominal investment. Using with bifocals since my eyes are different strengths and it is pretty much like using any magnifying glass except with this once adjusted your hands are free. Just thinking that threading a needle would really be a snap! Tried something I do on a receiver that usually takes my three or more tries and five minutes and I got it on the first try in like one minute so I'm pretty happy with this. Not sure how long the lamp will last or if it can be replaced. Base is heavy enough to stay put on your table but very easy to move around. Saw many other similar products; this one seemed the best value. 5Works for me!Knocked 1 star because it does seem to be less than durable plastic - I'm afraid it will be useless if I drop it once - otherwise I really like it. People complain about not being able to adjust it to the right height for the magnification to be suitable for the work they wanted to do, but it worked for me. It can be tricky to find the "sweet spot" and train yourself to work in the right area. I'm using the lamp for art manicures, so I am holding a hand just over the table, which means I have the lamp bent about 6-8 in. over table, and I have to look towards the back of the magnifier. It balances just fine this low - the bottom is weighted, you just have to bend the neck more s-like (backwards first, then forwards down) to counter balance instead of just bending it parallel to the work surface. Very simple, no frills, great for price. Glad I didn't get the higher magnification! This one shows me way too much detail (dry skin lines, flakes, etc.) as it is :P 4***** WARNING ***** DO NOT BUY THIS LAMPIf there was ever a time for zero stars, this is it.What an INCREDIBLE piece of Junk.First, what I received does not appear to be an "SE" MFR Lamp. It says "Liang Jing Jing" on the box.The thing is so light, it could never stand up on it's own. So what did they do?Wait for it. You're gonna love this!It appears they have filled the base up with Sand, Dirt, Rocks and/or anything else that was handy at the time. If you shake the lamp, you can not only hear it rattling around, but small amounts of it spill out onto the desk. The lamp is also covered in dirt/dust and is a mess.I've never seen anything quite like this before. I guess I don't have to say it's going back. Also, oddly, the return wasn't the usual simple amazon return. Part way through the process on the page, it stopped me and stated that the item needed specialized attention and I had to CALL Amazon to arrange for the return. This is really funny since Amazon doesn't ever, never, like to be called for any reason. It's why their online system is designed so well.STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT! 1I own two other magnifying lamps, one a clip ...I own two other magnifying lamps, one a clip on and the other I can't find anymore. This one is okay, but with such a short neck, it's much harder to get the correct focus than it is with the other ones. It foes from blindingly blank to far too magnified and needs to be adjusted often to see paper on the desk clearly. Other than the shortness of the lamp itself, the only other explanation could be the lens itself. It also has a very short cord and I had to order a black extension cord to get it to the outlet. After calling all over town to find a replacement blub for another one of these - it's right here on amazon:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002W269ZY 3Great little lampI was a bit hesitant to order this little white lamp with magnifier due to the reviews being all over the map. Apparently, reviewers either love it or hate it. I'm in the "love it" with full 5 stars group. I give it 5 stars because 1) It's color blends perfectly with my white and pastel decor. 2) It arrived in perfect condition and it is the quality I expected... light weight plastic but not at all flimsy or cheap looking. 3) It is very portable! It is so easy to move from project to project: working on my computer at the kitchen table (matches perfectly with my 5 year old white MacBook), working on sewing projects (plus matches with my white sewing machine & serger), working in the living room on a jigsaw puzzle, doing beading work (the magnifier is great for threading needles and working on fine details), reading a book or fine print instructions (the magnifier is fantastic for reading microscopic print) and working on any assortment of projects I have yet to think up but I know will require focused light. 4) It sits very stably in place and provides plenty of bright yet non-glaring light that is easy on the eyes. 5) The magnifier is amazingly handy. It was not the purpose for my buy the lamp, but it is a feature I am finding to be very useful and handy. Overall this is a wonderful little lamp and is in one of the best buys I've made. 5Not a good buy.I've seen this mentioned before..This lamp does not have ample weight at the bottom to counter the weight of the lens and light bulb. The only good thing about this lamp is the bulb, it produces a clean, natural style light that makes it easy to use for quick photos, crafting, writing, etc. Very crisp light. My lamp has broken twice. It just tips over and falls over far too easy for a household crafter with a 3 year old and two parrots. The base has been glued back together, this will be the second time repairing it in the 10 months I have had it. The first time, the lamp neck broke in the base and twisted around too many times over a couple of months and the cords were damaged inside. I took it apart and fixed that, and glued the darned thing in place. This next time, I was working and it just tipped over and rolled off of my desk, and I heard it break something in the flimsy plastic base. Now the base is dangling in two parts if I pick it up.Very frustrating, and if I had thought about it I would have returned it after the first incident of its weight carrying it off of my desk. Now I have to fix it or buy another.. but the lamp bulb is still good. I hate to waste it.Anyway.. Crafting/detail jobs are made easier until it falls over and flings tiny parts all over the desk and floor. Then it's a pain.On the hunt for a better quality magnifying day-light lamp. 3
