Customer Reviews

POOR QUALITY (keep looking)Poor quality, weak design/construction, not durable. Noticed it getting loose after only 1 week of use, then broke about 2 months thereafter at the point where arm connects to the base, which is plastic (see pics). This is not acceptable material to be using at the part that is subject to relatively high torsional forces. You don't have to be an engineer to know that this is just simply piss poor design. I would advise avoiding this brand and consider something that is built to last more than a few short months. 1Great in concept, flawed in design and executionI bought the Scosche dash mount version and it was a 5 star - perfect. But since my truck didn't have a smooth dash, I bought this version which is inserted into the cigarette lighter. The magnet works great (just like the other one) but the part that goes into the light hole is not firm enough to stay put. What happens is after 30 to 60 seconds of driving, the phone (still attached to the magnetic holder) has gradually tilted downward until the magnet can't hold the phone and it falls to the floorboard. If there was a way to adjust/tighten the inserted part into the lighter hole it would probably work great. I almost gave it one star but the magnetic hold and charging capability work great. Overall, I'm disappointed in this one. 2Extremely Strong Magnet - Able to hold heavy battery casesORIGINAL: I did a lot of research to try to find the magnetic car mount that would be the strongest because I have a large battery case around my phone which dramatically increases the weight. This magnetic mount turned out to be very strong. The battery case I have is the "iPhone 6 Plus Battery Case, Foxin 8000 mAh Extended Battery Case Rechargeable Power Bank Charging Case for iPhone 6 Plus." I use it for my iPhone 6 plus (the bigger/heavier one). If you look up that case or look at the pictures I posted, you can see how large the case is and why I thought it might be too heavy for a magnet. I drove around all day making sharp/fast turns to see if I could knock my phone off this mount and it did not slide in any direction at all. Coincidentally, I almost got in an accident on the highway when a guy in front of me went from ~ 55 mph to ~ 10 mph in about 1.5 seconds by slamming on his breaks. I slammed on my breaks and made a jerking turn into the shoulder. The stuff in my passenger seat hit into the dashboard and fell onto the floor but the phone did not slide or move. So the magnets they use are about as strong as any phone could need. The mount came with two metal plates (one big and one small) which have an extremely sticky adhesive on the back. The little pegs on the back of the mount are very strong but CAN be bent under enough force. I bent mine slightly (while intentionally trying to bend them) but I don't think any vent would bend them or someone could accidentally bend them.UPDATE: The vent mount did not hold to the vent after about a week or two. I bought the dashboard adhesive version by the same company with the same magnet strength. The new, dash mount is great and I have no complaints. Because the new mount is good I have decided not to deduct any stars but I do not recommend the vent version of this car mount. 5Great Mount!Several years ago I was looking for a way to mount my phone in my car. Unfortunately, I have always owned a version of the Samsung Galaxy Note which meant my phone was always on the bigger side. I came across Scosche on Amazon and saw it was a magnetic mount, very different from the clamp versions which I hated. It always seemed to be a pain to try and get your phone in and out of the clamps if you were at a stop light and needed to send a quick text. After installing my first Scosche mount in my car, I loved it. Installation was simple. Clean off the area you want to place the mount, pull of the tab covering the adhesive, place it on the spot and press down firmly. Let it sit for a while and you are done. The mount has the magnet portion. You then take the metal plate, round or rectangular, remove the tab covering the adhesive, and place it on your case, inside your case, or on your phone (your pick). However, I have found the place you get the best stability is on the outside of the case. So, if you have an awesome case with a design on it, you won't want to cover it so it will have to go inside the case. While it will still hold fairly well, that also depends on the thickness of your case. On the outside of the case, I have never had it fall off the mount in normal traffic/road conditions, including pot holes, speed bumps, road construction, slamming on the brakes. In an accident I had, it came off due to the impact. So, normal use, nothing to be worried about. Putting in on the mount and taking it off is simple. Take your phone and hold it up to the mount about where your plate is on the phone and the magnet will latch on to the plate and done. Take it off, just grab your phone and pull.Overall, easy installation, easy use. Down side, trying to figure out where you are going to put the metal plate on your phone. 4Finaly found the Perfect Mount.Exactly what I was looking for. Very sleek, very sturdy. Perfect.Let me start by saying that I make deliveries and use my phone as a GPS. As such I don't want to leave the phone in the care while making the deliveries, so I wanted something that was easy to remove my phone. I also use a company car that I share so I need to place and remove the mount every day.The first mount I ever bought was a claw type. It had a tack substance on the pad that stuck to the windshield. While it did hold well, it was not easy to remove the mount or the phone from the mount. It required two hands. The next mount was a magnetic vent mount. Better but it failed over time because you never knew what size vent fins you would find.So finally I decided to spend a bit of money (not that much) and got this mount. After the first two days of use I am extremely happy. It solved ALL of my problems. Easy to mount and remove from the windshield. It has no tacky substance on the suction cup. But it hold very firm. I was worried about the long goose neck but it is very ridged. Almost a solid piece of metal. Does not shake at all or very little. But still flexible enough to adjust the position of the mount. Also, the magnet is perfectly strong. Not too hard, not too soft. I have a large phone (OnPlus One, 5.5" screen) and it did not move or fall off over bumps.Overall very happy. Easy to mount/remove, sturdy, secure. Feels like it was made very well. 5Fantastic car mount for large or small phones. This car mount is fantastic. The suction cup stays where you stick it and hasn't fallen off yet. I take the whole mount down when I'm not using my GPS, so it's shown to be reliable even with repeated removal. I placed the base pad on a relatively flat, even surface on my dashboard above my radio and it hasn't had the problems with hot weather that some other reviewers have reported (I live in Texas, so it's seen plenty of hot weather). The arm is stiff enough to hold larger, heavier phones in place without bending, but is easy enough to bend by hand if you need to change the angle. The mount comes with two sticky magnets, a small and a large, to place on the back of your phone. I have an iPhone 6+ and use the larger magnet. It has stayed in place ever since I first applied it and is thin enough that I can put my phone case on the phone over it. I have a wallet case, so my credit card is held close to the magnet and I've never had any problems with the card being read. My mother did some research of her own and bought a different suction cup mount for her phone. The neck would bend anytime her smaller phone was placed on it and the suction cup never stayed attached to the windshield even when both surfaces were cleaned thoroughly. After a week she asked me to order a mount like mine for her. This mount definitely makes road trips more enjoyable. 5GREAT PRODUCT. Really appreciate how it pivotsWell thought out and good design. The "neck" that holds the portable device is very strong and can hold much more than an iPhone 8+. As with any Scosche product the magnets are strong. Recommend that you put the magnet on the outside of your phone case as indicated in instructions as I made the mistake of thinking that I should put the magnet on the inside of the case because it would be strong enough and didn't want to have anything on the outside of my Otterbox case on a previous Scosche product I had purchased.REALLY appreciate how the top swivels to be able to show passenger the phone face, without the Magpcup coming out of the cup holder or the phone falling off.Appreciate the small coin holder for tolls. The "fingers" that extend out of the base to hold "Magpcup" in place, do a great job of performing as expected. 5So close to being great, but one fatal flaw - How to fixThis is almost perfect - the big problem as noted in another 1 star review is that in hot weather, the adhesive will detach from the mount. The adhesive holds find to the dashboard, but separates in hot weather from the mount. I've had it happen twice. It's frustrating because outside of that, the mount holds my S3 w/ case perfectly. Just need to find a better way of bonding the mount to the adhesive.UPDATE: Added one star because I've solved the problem of it detaching in hot weather. If you're having this problem, simply scrape the back side of the mount that attaches to the adhesive on concrete to "rough up" the slick backside. This will allow the adhesive pad to bond better to the mount.UPDATE 2: If you're still having trouble with it coming off your dashboard, this mounting tape has done the job for me : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004Z4BV The 3M outdoor mounting tape has survived two straights weeks of 95+ degree temps. 4Breaks really, really easily - translated: PURE GARBAGEEpic piece of crap! The idea behind this is pretty cool, however the plugin is weak at best. My wife bumped it and the plug broke off in the socket and actually damaged the socket to where it no longer works. The goose-neck portion works great, looks good. I had to remove the cover and the magnets as my wife uses a pop-socket and a phone case which holds a credit card (magnets against the card would be bad). I pulled the cover off and removed the magnets and epoxied a pop-socket holder in place. I figured that might be the weak point, but no...If you want to pay to get your car fixed when this busts off then by all means, this is the mount for you. If however you don't like flushing $16 bucks, plus the cost of a replacement outlet down the drain, then move on and find something else. If had not tweaked the thing I would have demanded my money back, as it is I should make the seller fix what their product broke. 1TerribleAfter buying three of these different styles of mounts, this one did not work at all. Even though there are 2 different thicknesses of vents on this product, it did not even fit on the thinnest setting for my Impala. Every time I try and pull my phone off of the mount, the whole mount would come off with it.Also, a major major flaw that I have been struggling with is since I have the iphone X, I want to use my wireless charging capabilities. I cannot wirelessly charge my phone if there is a magnet in the middle of my phone. To avoid this, I put the smaller magnet that comes with the phone on the very bottom of my phone which completely offsets the weight of being able to hold my phone up with the three different magnetic mounts that i bought from Scosche. With wireless charging on the up and up, Scosche needs to understand that magnets cannot be put in the middle of phones with wireless charging capabilities because it will effect its capabilities. 1
