A good value basic keyless lock Put this lock in today and it is really easy. I chose this due to its heavy duty components (just pick up a competitors lock and notice the difference in weight and the components). While it is electronic, the lock bolt is moved manually. This is important since battery life for locks with automatic bolts is greatly reduced. The fact that I turn the lock means I know the bolt is in place. My metal door gets sun during different times of the year and expands and contracts. An automatic lock that requires more force due to the door shifting can cause issues with the life of the mechanism, or in some cases may not lock when you think it did. With this lock if I notice the lock starting to bind, I can pull or push on the door while throwing the bolt thus relieving any pressure and protecting the components. My feeling is that I will get much better life from this lock. I bought a matching handle and was very impressed by the components and their ease of installation. 5Terrible quality, do not buy it!!! The lock was great.... for the first 3 months. After 3 months the lock won't recognize any battery and it won't operate. Do not waste your money and buy this junk. 1Great lock but buttons show what numbers are being used after a little use Works great! I've had this for less than a year and do not use it very often, but I can now see a difference on the button that I use for my code. As a result, someone could potentially narrow down the digits of my code. I would suggest having several codes (different numbers) and rotating so it is not so apparent what numbers are used for the code. 4Stopped working properly within one year Initially the lock worked well. However, much like numerous reviewers below who have had this lock for at least a few months, when I enter the code, I can hear the actuator move, but the knob would simply spin. This has gotten progressively worse until now there are occasions when the lock takes up to one minute to lock/unlock. I have replaced the battery, with no effect. I have tried to contact the manufacturer repeatedly but have not yet been able to talk to a human - I simply get placed on permahold with classical piano music. Schlage provides no support? Save your money. I would NOT recommend the purchase of this lock. 1Frustrating and unreliable This has got to be one of the worst functioning pad locks I have ever used. It only works 1 out of 4 tries. I purchased two of these and they both have this major design flaw. 1NOT SECURE. SCHLAGE CONSIDERING DESIGN CHANGE. Don't use for security. I was really excited to get this lock. I've enjoyed other Schlage products without issues. However, after some inspecting of this lock I found what I consider to be a serious design/security flaw. I'll explain...First, I want to give kudos to Schlage for the finish of the product, as well a feature that other locks don't have. Many locks of this nature can easily be opened with a large magnet stuck to the side of it to actuate the push/pull solenoid that is activated when you enter your code. Schlage decided to use a screw type solenoid to defeat this bypass technique. However, they left the lock open to being defeated very easily with a simple drill bit. I have uploaded a video of this bypass to my review to show what I'm describing. It takes literally seconds to bypass this lock and leave a hole on the underside of the lock where people won't even look if they are burglarized. I realize this is a residential grade 2 lock. However, I honestly believe with as little effort as it took to do this bypass, it should not be possible. They should have an anti-drill plate or some other security feature to prevent this.As a side note, I contacted Schlage (Parent company Allegion) as well as Amazon Vine support about this issue. I gave them a month to look into this and they are considering a design change, per the product manager of this lock series. Until they change it or pull it completely, I would HIGHLY recommend that you don't use this for security on anything... use it like you would a bathroom door lock, for convenience. My .02Edit 01/28/15 for grammar correction. 2Careful on install!!! Worked great for a year. Super easy to install and program. Design flaw: the tab on the inside of the deadblot should have a sheild on it to prevent wire pinching. During installation this wasnt obviously. I hooked up the wire as it said. On inspection, theres plently of space and looks like wires are in the clear. The wire worked its way to the little tab and slowly got worn down. Attached photos. Secure the wire to keep it out of the way when you install (some duct tape). There really should be a sheild over the moving tab to prevent the pinching risk 3Schlage, You Did Me Wrong This electronic lockset hasn't worked out. From the beginning the exterior latch mechanism failed to engage the deadbolt routinely. The final straw was today as the electronics took a dump and the lock had to be opened with 2lb dead force technology. I'm in the Pacific Northwest, and we get a little precipitation in these parts. Apparently the weather had something to do with the lock failure. As you can see in the photo the corrosion for less than two months after installation is extensive. Here's the rub. 30 day window for returns. Fortunately, Amazon has excellent customer service. I took a small hit on the refund but I'm happy with the overall outcome. 1Completely satisified, just understand what to expect. Works as expected and looks good. Was pretty easy to install. I love the little LED light that illuminates the pad. I also like this style because the battery last a lot longer since it's not actually turning the bolt, just engaging the handle so YOU turn the bolt.I also prefer this style because the ones that automatically actuate the bolt also get stuck a lot unless your door is always perfectly aligned with the jamb. 5Schlage's product is unreliable and there is no customer commitment This lock worked for about a year. Now it has become unreliable. Both locking and unlocking randomly fail to engage the deadbolt after entering the code. I contacted the Schlage Customer Commitment Center via fax, as their warranty indicates. The product has a limited 3-year electronic warranty. It's been over 2 weeks since I contacted Schage and I have not received a reply. It is very unprofessional to ignore customers' warranty claims. I'm very disappointed in Schlage. I'll have to file a complaint through Amazon. 1
