Almost perfect ... read Love this bag. My first one lasted 3 years of travel about every other week. I only had to replace it because I tore a hole in it (and that was totally on me, not the fault of the bag). There is plenty of storage in it, well divided, and both my laptop and iPad are well protected in padded areas. The only suggestion I have is to get it reinforced in one spot on the shoulder straps. There is a seam in the center of the padding that could have been done better, and my first one came apart there. The stitching here is only on one side, not all the way through the strap as the other hems are. It didn't compromise the strength or anything, but the padding was showing. I took it to my local seamstress and she ran a new hem across it for 5 bucks. Preemptively, I took the new bag to her and had her stitch it before I used it. This may even be my fault as I tend to really load this bag up pretty heavy.Anyway, attaching a picture of the added stitchery. The two red stitching are from the factory, the third one down on the strap in black is what my seamstress added. She just went over the factory stitching, but went all the way through the padding and all, just like the red ones. I included a close up since you can't seem to enlarge these added pictures. (I haven't figured out how anyway...)So, almost perfect, but I will still give it 5 stars. My first lasted 3 hard years!!! 5Quality Bag: Forget the Rest! I purchased this bag after purchasing and returning the Everki Flight, Everki Titan, and Samsonite Xenon 2. This bag is big and can hold two laptops, a tablet, three phones, headphones, plenty of cables, and changing clothes if need be. It's a strong bag and there are two huge pockets with felt interior to protect your valuables from being scratched. In total, the bag has five compartments and the inside of each has a purpose. 5Great Layout, Poor Durability The pack is well laid out, with plenty of easy to access pockets for your gear, including an adjustable space inside the largest compartment to fit your laptop. It fits underneath the seat when flying major airlines, and the strap on the back pad allowing me to slide over the handle on my suitcase is convenient. Those are the good points. There are two bad points. First, the bottom of the laptop compartment has inadequate padding, and so does not provide good protection if the pack is set down quickly on a hard surface. Two hiking socks stuffed into the bottom fixed that problem well enough that I could overlook it. However, the second problem is durability. After one year of of daily carry and a few long trips, two of the large zippers are separating from the pack, and both shoulder straps have started to come apart. I expected more from Samsonite on this last point, and was very disappointed. I will not buy this pack again even though I really I like the layout. 2Cheaply, poorly made. Two have ripped in just 5 months. Waste of $50. After just 6 weeks of owning this, the right strap began tearing away from the rest of the pack. I visited Samsonite's website for warranty info; it said return backpacks to point of purchase. Amazon graciously accepted my return and shipped me a new one in January. Last week, I noticed that there's 4" tear at the top of the laptop compartment. I don't cram this thing full, and I don't even travel with it. I just take it to and from work, and it's even strapped into my passenger seat with a seatbelt during my commute! I carry a paper notebook, a 30-page document, my headphones, my 15" work MacBook, and my ultra-light 13" personal MBP. This is ridiculous! Also, the stupid zipper pulls are designed poorly. The pulls keep coming off the zipper (the "pull" being the long tab that you actually pull the zipper with--those things keep slipping off of the metal part that actually pulls the zipper teeth). 2Poor stitching on shoulder straps I really wanted to love this bag but there are very obvious flaws in the durability. I read reviews about the straps becoming unstitched but I figured people were handling them too roughly. I should have listened to them. I take very good care of my things, and I handled this bag particularly careful because I knew about the weakness of the shoulder straps. The stitching started coming undone at around the 5 month mark, and it is now unuseable at month 7. A company that specializes in travel bags should have done more thourough testing on their products. I'm very unhappy with this purchase. 1Samsonite isn't epitome of quality for me anymore In a nutshell, very poor quality. Strap torn after 10 minutes of 1st use, one of the zippers next day.For many years I used to use some cheap Nautica backpack on all of my frequent vacations around the world. I thought that it's time to buy some quality one for my next trip to Thailand. The rest of my equipment is Samsonite and I had no big issue with it, so I intentionally picked the same brand. I liked the functionality and design of Tectonic backpack and I knew it will be sturdy like all Samsonite products.Boy, I couldnt be further from reality. The quality of this backpack was more lousy then any cheap forfeit bag found in Asia on streets. Zippers were good, fabric was resistant, but it was put together in very very negligent way. I neither over-packed it nor putting inside any heavy stuff (Just stuff like bottle of water, sandwich, sunscreen, blanket, kindle, diaper, toy for kid). Defects all over the bag instantly ruined my family vacation. And of course, after 4 days in the middle of nowhere I had to look for a new cheap backpack which would deliver on expectation better than Samsonite. 1The Good, The Bad,& The Ugly. The Good: The design of bag is both visually appealing, and highly functional with the pockets, and general layout. The zippers are of good quality and function excellently. As other readers mentioned there are soft lined pockets for your laptop, tablet, and sunglasses/headphones. The water bottle pockets just barely fit a Nalgene bottle. Nice fit & finish. Very comfortable.The Bad: A lot of the threads started coming unfrayed in the first couple months. nothing a lighter couldn't fix, but I question the quality put forth in a product when simple things like threading starts coming undone. After all that is primarily what holds the bag together.The Ugly: After 6 months or so the fabric above the right shoulder decided it didn't want to be whole anymore and wanted to be a hole instead. Not the threading between the strap and the fabric- the actual middle of the fabric in the area of the right shoulder strap. Not sure what that's about since in general the fabric appears to be of good quality, but there is more than meets the eye here. As you can see from the picture, the shoulder fabric has decidedly given up on it's primary responsibility.Edit: purchased for around $54, lasted 6 months, currently in contact with Samsonite Warranty service, will have to take it to a repair center for evaluation. They will repair/replace if deemed mfg defect.UPDATE: Took the bag to Irv's (Samsonite authorized location), Samsonite has approved the bag for warranty repair (5-10 year warranty through Samsonite so don't give up after the 30 day amazon return policy expires), will upgrade from 2 stars to 3, since I do really like the bag, but I don't like poor quality, and the hassle of dropping it off, waiting a few weeks, & picking it up. Hopefully it's a quality repair and there are no more issues with the bag.UPDATE 2: I've picked up the bag from the luggage repair shop, and it looks good to go. Samsonite paid for the warranty service & I was impressed with their customer service. I wish I could say I didn't have to go through any of this hassle, but it's nice to know some companies still stand by their products. I'll update if I have further problems. 3Looked good, but shoulder strap ripped after 3 months Well I bought this bag in March for nursing school in May. It is now August which means that I have used this bag for a little more than 3 months. I liked that it had a separate compartment for my laptop and it was a decent size to haul my books around. I thought the bag would be more durable since I know Samsonite is a well known brand. This was not the case, as after a little more than three weeks the shoulder strap is ripped and now exposes the white padding. I don't even know if there is a warranty, I misplaced the information card. This bag did not last as long as I would have hoped for. 1I've Come to My Senses ***UPDATE***I've updated my review at the bottom of the original review.************Let me start off by saying, from what I understand the straps and part of the backpack that meets your back is the back of the bag and where the logo is where everyone can see it is the front. This terminology may prevent any misunderstandings in the review.If you're only looking for a list of Pros and Cons, see the end of my review.I ordered this backpack in replacement of the Adidas Ridgemont backpack because the Ridgemot started giving me some pretty heavy chaffing because it didn't keep it's shape and the bottom rubbed up against my back. Before all of this I was on a quest to find a backpack to replace my work backpack and to take with me when my band plays out of state. So I made a list of my requirements in order from most important to least important:-very large capacity (at least 2000 cubic inches) so I could fit a laptop, portable charger, tablet, cords, practice pad with one pair of drum sticks (I play drums in the band), clothes, towel, and shaving kit and still have room for anything else.-zippers that could support a suitcase lock.-suspension system to make it easier on my back.-very durable with a well built handle on the top.-laptop and tablet pockets.-decent price:size ratio.-loops on the front or on the straps to clip my IEM case to.-pocket on the side for a water bottle or other beverage.-various sub pockets and holders for accessories (cords, pens, etc).-NO WHEELS. I don't need wheels on my backpack. That's why they have straps.I did tons of research before deciding on this particular backpack. I watched video reviews, I looked up sizes and pictures wherever I could find the information. Here's a list of backpacks I considered and why my final decision was this pack:- Targus Demolition (I read reviews about the handle on this pack breaking off. With as much stuff as I plan to put in the backpack, this was not acceptable and there were also not enough large pockets)- Targus Drifter II (there were not enough dual zippers for me to secure this backpack with luggage locks and make sure all of my stuff would be locked up and there wasn't enough space to hold everything I wanted it to hold.)- Oakley Kitchen Sink (The name of this backpack drew me to it, but there's really not enough space in this pack for what I need it for and the price for such a small capacity backpack was ridiculous. pretty much paying for unnecessary latches.)- Ogio Renegade RSS (Once again, not enough dual zippers for all the pockets, so I couldn't secure it with luggage locks)- Swissgear Scansmart (not enough room in the backpack and the laptop pocket was inconvenient for my use.)- Thule Crossover (Too many 1 zipper compartments and not enough space for the price.)- Jansport Odessey (Looked like there wasn't much there for strap suspension.)- The North Face Router (There was no cushion or padding on the handle on top. Just a strap that looked not so durable.)-Adidas Ridgemont (my decision came down to the Adidas Ridgemont and the Samsonite Luggage Tectonic when I ruled out the others. I ended up getting the Ridgemont at first but like I said earlier, it didn't hold it's shape, the sound it made when you move it was much like what it would sound like moving a large tarp, there weren't enough pockets and I had to return it.)After all consideration and returning the Adidas Ridgemont backpack, I got the Samsonite Luggage Tectonic backpack, and when it arrived I noticed the pros and cons immediately. Here's what I found.Pros:- LIFETIME WARRANTY. (this is huge to have on a backpack to ensure it lasts you as long as possible).- tons of pockets to keep most of my accessories in.- well designed shoulder suspension.- dual zippers on most pockets and loops for luggage locks at the end of each zipper.- 2 side pockets for a bottled beverage.- laptop and tablet pocket.- loops on the front and on the straps.- padded, mesh back for good airflow.- very good quality of material and zippers with a very tough feeling handle on top.Cons:- Space. Apparently 2200 square inches is not enough to hold everything I need to carry in this. There's a huge flaw that no one has pointed out in any review I've read for this backpack. The pocket at the top is for headphones as you can see in the pictures. but the pocket doesn't have it's own space on the bag, but instead takes up space in the large middle compartment making it difficult to pack clothes or a shaving kit.-There's not a convenient pocket for a laptop cord. I use the pocket in the tech gear compartment for usb cords, tools, and an external battery. So my laptop cord gets put in one of the side pockets meant for bottles, unsecured and out there for anyone to just grab.Here's a list of what I have fit in this backpack:Electronics: Jackery Giant external battery, 15" laptop, 10.1" tablet, 5 usb cords in different lengths, D/C to A/C converter, AC usb charger, headphones, external portable hard drive, 3 various computer cables for work, and my in ear monitors are clipped to a loop on the front.Tools: screwdriver, a straight razor, Snap-it pocket knife, Leatherman Multitool, 3 drum keys.Office supplies: Journal notebook, Merch count notebook, 5 pens, post it notes, sharpies, and a small roll of duct tape.Yes that's a lot of stuff. But I have yet to even try to fit clothing and a shaving kit in this thing and it's almost jam packed to the brim. I'd also like to note that I have an 8.5x11 grid it organizer. Since it doesn't fit in the tech compartment and will only fit in the middle compartment, I took all my cords and gadgets out of it and put them in the front tech compartment so I would have more room for clothes.All in all, I think I'll keep looking for something better and return this backpack when I find something that meets my needs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated in the comments section below.***UPDATE***I ended up keeping this backpack and taking it with me to a show in Houston that my band played, just to see if I could make it work since I couldn't find much in comparison and time was running out. After some major rearranging, I decided there were a few things, I could leave at home when going out of town.Here is what I was able to fit in this pack:2 sharpies, 2 pens, Gridit organizer with usb cords, hootoo portable router, hard drive, external charging battery, laptop, tablet, one set of clothes (shorts, underwear, shirt, 2 pairs of socks), knife, screwdriver, Leatherman multitool, over the ear headphones, sun glasses, keys, drum keys, IEMs, laptop charging cord, AC USB charger, DC inverter, standard sized shaving kit, 5X7 spiral notebook, and a bluetooth keyboard/case for my tablet.I ended up leaving my journal at home because it was taking up way too much space, and I put the roll of duct tape in the merch box with the tshirts. All in all, I made this backpack work, and ended up really enjoying it. I increased the stars to 5 due to the great experience I had with this bag. I still had a little bit of wiggle room left with all the gear I put in this bag. I just needed to do some rearranging and everything eventually worked out. I recommend this bag to anyone looking for a good quality pack to travel with and I hope my review helps. 5dedicated headphones pocket because my kids like the DJ style headphones and have a tendency to ... Got these for 2 of my kids mainly for 2 features: The large, dedicated headphones pocket because my kids like the DJ style headphones and have a tendency to break them. The design was well thought out and includes laptop storage which also works well since so many kids are now required to use laptops for school.No issues so far with straps breaking, but I've cautioned the kids on using the top handle when they cram 20-30 lbs. of books and stuff into these things.Samsonite could improve this design by seriously reinforcing the arm straps the same way they do the top carry handle and the ultimate feature they could add would be double-charging ports with a built-in portable battery pack. There is space in the front for that and I may add it myself and see how it goes. Having to open the back pack and dig for a charging cable is not as convenient as being able to plug into one included by design. Same goes for charging the battery pack once you get back home. -My 2 cents.Too bad no one lets you design a backpack like the "Build a Bear" store so you can pick and add features at will. Another item offered by some is to have your backpacks custom monogrammed with names or initials. (LL Bean I think?) 5
