Customer Reviews

Exactly what I have been looking for. Good Job!! This is great. I detest having to rotate my iMac 27" to reach the USB ports. I also don't like having unwieldy usb hubs laying around. The Sorbent 4-port hub fits perfectly. Snapped on in a sec. To install, I placed the front tabs in their position and then moved the USB plug to the desired position. Went great. It is made our of hard plastic... feels a little cheap.. but everything fits secure. I have used it a few times to make sure it works. Things seem fine. I do use external speakers for my iMac. I did switch over to the internal speakers after installing the USB hub and can not tell any problems there... but again my norm are the external speakers (as well as air play). I've added a few photos so that you can see how it works. 5Disappointing Post Sales Support Terrible product support. This evaluation addresses Sabrent product registration and lack of customer support for two of their products. Neither product can be registered on-line (using various browsers). Product support is non-existent and I was directed to submit a ticket to get these $30 items registered (HB-IMCU & HB-MNBW) with receipts from Amazon. This seems an awful lot of work to go through for warranty registration. I called twice, finally got through and got clueless support.I will evaluate the actual service from these devices and return with an update once I've had some time with them. Disappointed in sorry post sales support for an otherwise fine product manufacturer. 1It works perfect After reading some of the reviews for this hub I was somewhat skeptical, however, I decided to order anyway. One reviewer stated that they could not charge their phone because the ports have no power, not the case, I can charge my phone, charge my Bose wireless speaker, etc..... Most negative reviews state that is hard to install the hub. It could not have been simpler, really, it took me but one second. I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017). If you own one of these, this hub works perfect. . 5The product fit well and looked good, in my opinion I purchased this item for my 2017, 27-inch iMac. The product arrived the same day as my new computer. The product fit well and looked good, in my opinion. Functionally, the product worked as intended, after I purchased a ac adapter separately.Unfortunately, the product has some iOS conflicts where each time the Mac puts itself to sleep, while the hub was connected, the computer could not wake up (had to be unplugged for a 10 count and then plugged back in). I took both the computer and hub to the Genius Bar but apple was not able to provide any support. Without this hub connected the machine wakes up without issue.I replaced this hub with an Amazon basic hub and the system is working perfectly. Terrific design, however due to some iOS conflict it was useless to me. 1Looks good and works. AMENDED REVIEW AND RATING: 05.14.2017 So far so good (IOW: straight out of the box it works). It's a very snug fit on a 27" 5K Retina iMac (pre USB-C model obviously) and you can only use one per iMac. The little tabs on the main body of the hub fit into the ventilation slot that runs along the bottom edge of the computer. Slot those tabs into that ventilation slot and then plug the hubs own plug into the iMac.It is useful for USB peripherals that do not always need to be connected to the computer. In my case those are a media reader for non-SD media or when tethering a camera to the computer, a Wacom Intuous 5 tablet, an Xrite i1 Display Pro colorimeter , or a portable HDD/SSD drive.AMENDED REVIEW: 05.14.2017 If you are using this for anything other than thumbdrives or low power devices, I highly recommend you get the Sabrent 5V 4A 100V-240V to DC Power Adapter. The instruction sheet suggests this but does not suggest which AC power source to get, or suggest wattage or amperage, so I had to do my own research. It is possible that any 5V 4A adapter will work if it has the right plug. because Sabrent doesn't mention this in their description or in the included instructions I am knocking a star off my review. 4Fits perfect in style and function Cons: Easy to accidentally push out when plugging in USB cordPros: Looks great, fits perfect, style/color matches iMacVery easy to install and fits flush with my iMac (27") screen. It's not a big deal at all, but I have found that when I plug something in it has a tendency to push the hub out a little bit. I just make sure I hold it from the back while I plug something in. My only regret is that I didn't go for the option that hard a card reader as well. Great accessory if you don't mind the cords coming out the front. 5this is not good, but all the ports work Having just received my Sabrent 4-port usb hub, which fits extremely snugly to the back of my 21" iMac (so snugly in fact, that I had to bend it very firmly from behind to get it to fit and finally managed to squeeze it into the corresponding usb slot). I noticed that the usb fitting on the far right hand side of the four port Sabrent hub is slightly skewed (hence the three stars). On what is supposed to be a "new" product, this is not good, but all the ports work, including the skewed one, so I can't complain too much. It fit's into and looks almost part of the iMac-it is the same colour so blends in perfectly as an add-on device. It saves having to turn the iMac around all the time to gain access to the usb ports on the back so all in, it is a good solid device. How well it may or may not last, remains to be seen as it is early days yet, but so far, I'm pleased with it. 3Problems: Causes Random Shutdowns of my iMac 27" Earlier I gave this hub a 5 star review but have since encountered problems voiced by others. My iMac, 27" late 2015, would shutdown unexpectedly and I could only restart it by unplugging the power cord for 5 to 10 seconds and plugging it back and pushing the restart button. At first I suspected my APS power unit and replaced it. But the problem persisted. My iMac would shut down 2 or 3 times a day, while in screen saver mode. I didn't encounter the shutdowns while I was actively working on the computer. I re-read all the reviews and found others who had this issue. After removing this USB 3.0 hub the problem disappeared. Do a google search for unexplained iMac shut downs relating to USB 3.0. I'm sorry this is happening because this hub looks great and is so handy for easy usb hookups. I also have tried it with the accessory power but same result. You may still find it useful if you can live with the shutdowns. Maybe it won't affect your iMac but this is my experience. 2Works great, but somewhat tricky to install. It works as advertised, but WOW is it fiddly to get plugged in. It is a VERY tight fit, and took several tries. It doesn't "click in" or anything, and you have to flex it a bit to get it to go in. Start lining it up with the port, putting the teeth into the vent, and then bend/roll it up into the USB port and push (pushing harder than I expected). The first time I plugged it in, it wasn't in far enough to work. The 2nd try worked, and when I pulled it out and pushed it in again it also worked, so I just wasn't aggressive enough the first time.On the upside, once it's in, it's pretty solid. I still hold onto it when I plug in/remove USB drives, but that's just for my own paranoia because it's really quite solid. You should of course only be plugging flash drives into this thing because it's unpowered and won't charge iPhones/iPads, DVD drives, hard drives, etc. Keep the other 3 ports on back handy for those things. There is a small power connector on the back of it that would theoretically provide full power to the 4 ports, but there's no indication what specs you need as far as an AC adapter to fully power it, and that's not something I'm going to guess at.For reference, I have a Late 2014 27" 5K Retina iMac, but it's the same configuration as any 27" iMac since 2012. One important point is that while on a 21" iMac you can plug this into any of the 4 USB ports, on the 27" you can only plug it into the 1st or the 4th due to the way the vents are shaped on the bottom (it comes with a card explaining this). I use mine in a climate controlled office doing sysadmin work, so I'm not too worried about the little bit of airflow this blocks. It doesn't seem to affect the sound output much if at all either, at least for alert sounds, but I use headphones to listen to music. I have it plugged into the USB port shown in the product photos (position 1).As far as build quality, it seems just fine. I'm not sure how someone had the front panel fall off, because it's not a separate piece on mine. Sits flush with the front of the iMac when installed, and looks pretty good. Not a perfect color/texture match by any means, but pretty close. 4Yea!! No more fumbling around hoping you can hit the right hole - this Hub welcomes your USB plugs! If you own an iMac THIS is one of the MUST HAVE accessories you need. I have wondered for years why Apple, all about design and function, keeps their ports BEHIND the machine where it is fails completely in the convenience category...prettier yes - but not in the least bit convenient. I always thought it would have been great had they put a few USB ports in the stand facing forward, for the mouse/keyboard, but no...apparently not pretty enough. BUT, along came this USB Hub that extends the ports out front and viola, problem solved. Most USB Ports are supposedly a 50/50 odds of plugging them in correctly, but when you can't SEE the port and have to grope around in the dark hoping to get it in right, the odds of increasing your frustration level go up exponentially faster. THIS device solves all those problems, well worth the money and most definitely worth the convenience. Well done! 5
