One Star joystick broke first dayfeelsbadman 1Best Non-genuine N64 Controller I did a lot of research to find the best N64 controller out there. Going after an original is tough because by now they're either in fairly rough shape or pretty darn expensive. I found this one and did my research on it and it looked to be my best option. At ~$14 I decided to buy it.To start the controller weighs almost nothing. It is deceptively light to the point where you almost think you'll break it by squeezing the controller too tightly. It feels cheap and fragile, but in reality it isn't. Opening it up and adding weight to the body of the controller fixed this issue completely. The buttons are extremely tactile, far more than the original. However, they feel good. The D pad is a little mushy but I've had no issues with it so far. Now for the stick. The stick is okay at best. I was 50/50 with it at first, but now it's making this awful creaking noise whenever I move it (after about 20 hours of use). Usability of the stick seems the same, but the noise isn't the most pleasant.Overall, in my mind this is the best non-genuine N64 controller you can get right now. Just add some weight to the body of it and you'll feel the nostalgia. Hopefully they fix the stick, it's not great, but it works. 4Configuration for Linux / Mupen64Plus Users It works fine. Seems like somewhat high latency, but maybe that's just my set up. I most wanted to write this review for people using Mupen64Plus on Linux, since there's not a lot of help online. For one, mupen64plus puts my configuration file in ~/.config/mupen64plus/mupen64plus.cfg, instead of the /usr/share or /usr/local directories like everybody on the internet says. Also, the button mappings for this control seem to be a little unintuitive, but after about an hour of trial-and-error experimentation, I figured it out. Pasted below is a snippet from my configuration file. If you are using this controller on mupen64plus, your configuration file should probably look the same. Hopefully seeing this will save somebody two hours of hassle. Enjoy!(By the way, I haven't tested the D pad or L button, so those may not be valid, but the L button configuration probably is.)# Digital button configuration mappingsDPad R = "hat(0 Right)"DPad L = "hat(0 Left)"DPad D = "hat(0 Down)"DPad U = "hat(0 Up)"Start = "button(9)"Z Trig = "button(7)"B Button = "button(8)"A Button = "button(6)"C Button R = "button(1)"C Button L = "button(3)"C Button D = "button(2)"C Button U = "button(0)"R Trig = "button(5)"L Trig = "button(4)"Mempak switch = ""Rumblepak switch = ""# Analog axis configuration mappingsX Axis = "axis(0-,0+)"Y Axis = "axis(1-,1+)" 4One Star Controller is crap. Everything works on it except the down joy stick. 1it works in a pinch but still is terrible in every very cheaply made. it works in a pinch but still is terrible in every aspect 1summed it up as "People either think this controller is awesome or complete crap This is maybe the second review I've ever written after ordering countless items off of amazon but I felt compelled to warn people before they buy this. I always look at the ratings and most helpful reviews on products before I buy them. The top reviews, for the most part, summed it up as "People either think this controller is awesome or complete crap. The controller is somewhere in between those two extremes". After using the controller for a couple weeks I have come to the conclusion that the controller is easy to install and get working but is really cheap. I have attached photos where you can clearly see that the joystick has come off. It's hard to tell from the photo but the "B" button sticks if it pressed a certain way.I would not buy this controller again but if you absolutely need one it somewhat gets the job done. 3Dripping with Nostalgia! If you loved the original N64 ergonomic high tech boomerang controller, this is its exact reincarnation for the PC. The familiar plasticy-ness, the oddly placed buttons, and the confusion as to how to hold it will bring back a rush of Nostalgia from your childhood! The buttons have the exact same feel that I can remember from my original N64 controller, even the C buttons feel like the OEM!I read some complaints about the joystick not being centered, but I did not ever have that problem. The controller has always worked perfectly for me, from GoldenEye, to Perfect Dark, to Ocarina of Time, to Super Smash Brothers. This is obviously USB based and is just plug and play. It is meant to be used with emulated games, but I suppose if you are feeling crazy you can use it for whatever games you want. Just note that it does not have all of the buttons that today s modern console controllers have. I have used the controller on two different Windows 10 devices, as well as an android tablet over OTG connection. I have had this for probably 6 months now and have not had any issues with it! This is definitely the best choice if you need a black N64 controller. 5it's a super common problem with these things Apparently, it's a super common problem with these things, but they both just stopped working after like a month. No warning. They worked perfectly fine one day. I unplugged them and put them neatly aside. They didn't work when I plugged them back in. One worked for a little longer than the other, but they both died the same, inexplicable way.Posting this so much later because it didn't really occur to me at the time. I'd never had to review anything before, but I was just searching through my history for one of the 360 controllers I'd bought to replace them and figured I could save someone else the grief.. 1very disappointed with this product Doesn't work, very disappointed with this product. Won't be ordering another controller because chances are it won't work either 1Lightweight, and Cheap quality I bought this controller exclusively for my N64 emulator. There was no issue in setting it up, and it worked perfectly with the emulator. The quality of this controller was not impressive. It's quite lightweight, as if there is nothing really inside of it. The buttons had a very different feel to them to what I remembered from the original Nintendo controller (granted it's been some time since I last held a N64 controller). The biggest issue with it was the analog stick. It was very cheap, knew it would not last longer then one month. I only used this controller 4-6 times, and twice the analog stick came off. Had to stick it back on. It's a plug and play controller, and it does work. I will give it credit for that. The quality reminds me of those $3 controllers you can find at most flea markets. My quest begins to find a better controller. 2
