    For great results, buy great paint brushes! I have been buying only Purdy brushes for the past three years. The 2-1/2" and 3" angled brushes hold a lot of paint, leave a smooth finish and are great for painting an edge along a border like between the wall and the ceiling.I bought the first one to paint the window and door frame in a bathroom with semi-gloss paint. I couldn't believe the control I had with the paint and the finish was great. I have since painted vanities, interior walls and doors and have always had a smooth finish without having to pick brush bristles out of the paint. As others have noted, priming (especially with primers like Kilz) seem to be hard on brushes and extra diligence is required to keep the brush in good shape. That said, I will never go back to another brush brand.One other note, I am not a professional painter but I have been painting all my life. I came across a website that I think is great and one that I think any painter can learn from. I sure did. Check it out: http://www.howtopaintahouseright.com 5Still a good brush and I've used mine now daily for a couple of months. This IMO is a good brush. The key to keeping this a good brush (for a very long time of many many uses) is to keep your brush clean and use a painter's comb. Once thoroughly cleaned, let the brush "hang dry" in proper shape as it dries. Do let the brush stand on the bristles! All my good brushes hang until dry and the put back into original cover to maintain shape. If using the brush the next day or so, I will clean brush adequately and hang in water with a bit of fabric softener. To accomplish this, I drill a small hole in the center of the brush above the metal band that holds the bristles and run a straight piece of metal (from an old metal clothes hanger) through the brush and let it sit in a plastic container filled my water and fabric softener up to about a 1/3 rd inch of the where the bristles meet the metal band. The container is notched at the top on both sides to accommodate the metal rod and deep enough so the brush doesn't bottom out. 5Where Have You Been All My Life Amazing...no really. Its amazing. I'm not a painting expert but my attempts at repainting rooms in my house have been frustrating. Usually I end up taping everything...trim, ceiling, vents etc. Of course, that is a pain, its expensive and it doesn't work that well as paint sometimes oozes behind the tape. A friend was recently repainting and her facebook posts didn't show tape. I had to know what brush she used. She directed me to this one.I love it. This brush makes it easy to cut paint into tight places or sharp lines. It makes painting so much faster! It is easy to wash out and I've been able to remove all the excess paint just using a toothbrush. If I had to buy a new one of these to paint every room in my house, I would...but it is holding up beautifully so that won't be necessary :) Love it! Buy this one! 5It carries a load of paint ( not like the old semi oval brushes did - they carried ... Hi , If your a professional painter and have a strong wrist and elbow ( for all day dipping and laying it on ) . This brush will make you money . It carries a load of paint ( not like the old semi oval brushes did - they carried more ) . I still have a few of the ( 15-20 year old ) semi oval brushes . And when i compare this new purdy brush to them ( the old semi oval - same size 3". the old ones are thicker and there is no gap in the middle of the brush plus the old one weighs more - more brushes and a denser wood - the rings of the wood are a lot closer together - and a firmer brush on the older one ) not semi-stiff like this one . With that being said , I did enjoy using this brush . It was a pleasure to work with . I also have the 3" semi oval which if your not a professional you should get . The 3 1/2" is a beast ( a lot less dipping and a farther line . But big , You wouldn't think a 1/2" would make a difference ( it does with this brush ) . Clean this brush properly and it will last you a long time ( like my old ones have ) . It is worth the cost ( in my option ). Thank . Enjoy 5Purdy paintbrushes, need anything more be said? The truth is that this set consists of relatively small brushes. I mostly use the largest one, which is still small for most serious tasks. However, these are Purdy brushes, some of the best paintbrushes on the market, and they do their job extremely well. If you're looking for smaller brushes for detailed jobs, finish work, trim etc. Then this is the perfect set. If you have a bunch of general painting tasks that need doing, then this set along with a good (Purdy!) 3"+ brush ought to do the trick. 5Best brush out there for EVERYTHING This is my go-to EVERYTHING brush, Very high quality, holds paint well and leaves minimal brush strokes. Used it to paint my coffee table but since I'm a homeowner now I will probably use this brush for everything from trim painting to whatever else! Cannot give this brush 10 stars but I would if I could.Buy this brush, clean it, and use it again and again, you won't be sorry you did! 5Good quality Even though they are very nice, I think I would go with cheaper ones for my paint, stain, finishing, and varnish applications. This is because I m not a professional and I haven t used a brush much before, so I can t tell the difference yet. I have used them for applying polyurethane to some wooden boxes I made and also to apply stains. I think they are too nice to be used for this, unless you clean them perfectly, eventually they will harden.Even so, when I used them the first t8me they felt very smooth. I ve cleaned them with paint thinner and also spirits and turpentine. Then I wash them with soap and run a fork through it a few times to make sure most of the bristles are separated again. I ve used them about 5 times now all three and they have not shedded a single hair. 5Purdy makes the best brushes! Tips for maintenance. Our Home Depot stopped carrying Purdy brushes, and they are my favorite. I do a LOT of painting, and these brushes really stand the test of time. My previous 1" brush lasted about 10 years. Time for a new one. As long as you take care of your brush, you should get lots of use. Always clean your brushes first with a comb-style tool, thoroughly getting any excess paint out of the brush. Then, follow up with a scrubber to get any residue off the outside of the bristles. I use a kids pegboard craft piece that I bought at Walmart - it's plastic with little nubs and they are in various shapes like stars, hearts, etc. These make perfect scrubbers for brushes! I use Murphy's Oil Soap to wash my brushes. It gets them clean without stripping them dry. After cleaning, blot the excess water onto paper towels. Then, wrap a layer or two of paper towels around the brush (lay down the towels, put the brush on it, wrap the end of the towel onto the brush, and then flip your brush over and over until it's fully wrapped. Let it dry this way so that the ends of the brush do not dry all splayed out. After it's dry, put it back into its protective cover. 5Terrible performance in side by side Purdy brush comparison for exterior house paint I am comparing this Purdy XL 1" brush (dislike) against an 1.5" Designer's Edge Pro brush (like) and an old Purdy 1.5" Oil Based Paints 100% Natural White China Bristle brush (like a lot). The Purdy XL was terrible by comparison. Both the other brushes cut FAR cleaner lines.Project: cutting in around multiple pane windows with standard Benjamin Moore exterior paint.Who I am: art degree oil painter who has painted 3+ houses inside and out.Upshot: I gave the 1" XL a solid try but could cut in much more even lines with either of my two old and fairly abused brushes. I gave up on the XL and washed it up 20 minutes after it came out of it's factory packaging and after drying took a photo of the practically new XL and the used Pro next to each other. No cheating, no fluffing--- this is just how they dried.This is absurd enough that I have not even opened the 1.5 or the 2" brushes that came with this "value pack" for $20 so it's conceivable that only the 1" one sucks but I'm dubious. I've been a long time Purdy fan. Are these knock-offs? I see a zillion good reviews on these and i'm perplexed and dismayed. I will assume that most of these folks are painting fences.Note: the photo of the packaging shows a 2" brush box but the old 1.5" brush used in the test is shown.Update: I found a brush that I like as well as my really old Purdy brushes: Corona Chinex Professional. Don't know how it will hold up but it cleans up easily and is similar (or might even prefer) to my vintage Purdy brushes! 2Great brushes for Pro's and Amatures. Ok, I have been an armature painter all my life...( I've owned 4 home and painted them all myself ) This by far is the best paint brush I have used. Like most people who do not do this for there regular 9-5 job, I had a hard time painting a straight line. (Ceiling to Wall) I have tried those cheap foam brushes, and the packs you pick up at Wal-Mart that cost a few bucks for a 5 with the worst results. After reading a few reviews and doing a lot of research, I came a cross these brushes. This was a great purchase. I have only been using the one brush so far, but I'm pretty sure the other 2 are just as good. I make sure I thoroughly wash out my brush when finish and place it in a zip lock when I'm done. This brush will not make you an expert, but time and practice and patience and you can be close. I would highly recommend them. 5
