Customer Reviews

Bad exprerience OK - 1st unit arrived dead in water apart from the power light. Connected a know, good mic and to our working speaker. Unit was replaced quickly but the replacement also failed to work. I looked for a supplier to see if there was some unseen trick to getting this running to no avail. Therefore I am forced to give up on this make/model and look elsewhere. So far it has put my theatre project back a week 1poor quality control I don't usually write reviews but I had to let potential buyers know about this. I bough this unit as an urgent replacement as I was doing music/sound at a wedding in two days. I installed the amp in my rack and hooked it up ... nothing ... no sound. Checked all connections ... all correct. I rechecked the instructions and it said there might be a blown fuse ... but nowhere on the outside is there a fuse. I had to get it working ... remember, wedding in two days. I took the unit out of my rack and still couldn't fine the fuse the instructions alluded to, but then I did hear a slight rattle inside. Maybe the fuse is inside? I removed the cover and still could not find any fuse ... but ... the rattle was a screw that should have been holding down one of the circuit boards. Luckily, there were other screws as the threads on the loose one were stripped out. While inside I started checking the power connections and guess what ... there are two circuit boards with power cables connecting to them and BOTH were loose. Looks like whoever assembled the unit slipped the plugs in place but didn't press them on securely. They weren't making any connections. I made sure these were pressed onto the connections well, replaced the cover, and the unit worked perfectly. I would have only given one star for this but after I fixed it (I shouldn't have had to) it sounded great. Seems like PYLE makes a great product, they just don't have decent QC to make sure it's assembled properly. 3Came damaged The amp was actually triple boxed. There was no evidence of damage or rough handling by UPS. I set the amp down on the table and noticed that one of the front feet was about 1/4 shorter than the other feet. Upon examination, I could see that the bottom of the amplifier was dented in. The inner box packaging material also looked like it had been opened before and there were fingerprint smudges on the case of the amplifier. The amp had a faint smell of cigarette smoke also. It appears this amp had been returned or used and then shipped to me. The overall quality of the amp is not very good, but you can't expect much for the price or from Pyle. The case is very flimsy. Can't comment about the performance because I boxed it up as soon as I saw the problem with the case. I thought I would take a chance based on some of the positive reviews here, but I am now sorry I did not order a different manufactures amp. Amazon is great about returns! 2came used in box, didn't work at all I bought this amp twice in one week - first one I purchased was dented and the fans didn't run, only channel A put out sound. Returned it to amazon, bought a replacement, opened this one... same problem, dented case, "void if opened" sticker was half peeled off and channel B was the only one to work this time..... from the looks of the reviews on this site, I am not the first, and probably won't be the last to be ripped off on "re-packaged" broken amps that obviously the manufacturer is trying to offload on the unsuspecting.... boo Pyle!!!!! 11000 Chinese Watts... but OK at last...? What you need to know. This is a June 2014 review.Me: I am an avid audiophile. I know what good speakers driven by a class A vacuum tube amp can produce. That's the gold standard for this review.I went into it on a budget and with eyes wide open, didn't have $500 or more to spend on an amp, especially an amp that would promise ridiculous wattage and not deliver. This replaced an expensive name brand home theater amp that was supposed to be a 750 watt unit but really only delivered a tiny fraction of that per channel.I believe from the other reviews complaining about fan noise and such that I might have got a new and improved model of this amp...I have a Pyle 40 and another 15 watt per channel stereo amp that cost peanuts and have stood the test of time.First - my purpose was to drive a couple good speakers from the 70's rated at 160 REAL watts continuous and 500 peak, to comfortable room filling volume - both for musical use and as a public address system on occasion at our business. I wanted clean sound and a lot of it, but for me a clean REAL 100 watts per channel would be plenty.Next - this pup's a commercial unit - so it has NO RCA connectors. You'll need an adapter cable to hook up to a source. Either phono or XLR to RCA.Next - there's only really one input and no mixing. So for one source, one set of speakers, you're good. Otherwise you'll need a mixer or some similar device to select inputs. The results: I got a clean two channel stereo output feeding it with a clean input.I'm using 8 ohm speakers with success, and I can't relate experience on 4 ohm - but I'd probably not try running 4 ohm speakers with this thing based on my sense of what it is, and the other reviews. As for power output, 1000 Chinese watts is equal to a claim of 500x2 watts at 4 ohms is equal to 250x2 at 8 ohms, says the ad.Reality: with speakers rated at 8 ohms, and half rated power, the thing will probably be longer lived.Sound wise, at full clean output (clipping light on the amp flickers maybe once in 10 seconds) it sounds and feels like a good clean 75-100 watts should with those speakers. In years gone by I've driven them with 500 watt per channel vacuum tube amplifiers, and the feel is about right for 75-100 watts.Provided you don't plan to use the 4 ohm speakers, provided you don't plan to hook it up and let it rip full power regardless of the distortion, provided you don't plan to treat it like a crazed teenager - and provided it doesn't commit suicide all by itself - it works fine. The amp I got is clean sounding, the fans only come on at higher power levels, are they are inaudible against any reasonable musical material except for something with periods of dead silence. Even then, not all that bad. Those listening to the system have said "what fan?"Out of the box, no hum, no surprises. Do plan to turn it down before turning it on or off.Upshot: Good as anything I've heard since the early 90's, if your intention is to run real speakers at decent volume with enough headroom to sound right. If taking your chances for under $100 in the hopes of hitting the jackpot appeals to you, you have come to the right place.Oh, and it has no UL approval or any other approvals I can see. Caveat emptor! 4Less than the sum of it's parts Pros:Low PriceRack mountableDecent soundBalanced inputsBridge modeGround liftCons:Overstated wattageExtremely loud fansComments:I bought this unit primarily for the case (a bare rackmount case is well over the price of this amp) and particularly because it is so easy to retrofit with other components. It is a dual-mono design with amp modules and heatsinks on either side and a 33/33 toroidal transformer in the center with the power supply unit (PSU).First thing, the fans are NOISY!! If you've heard the expression "howl like a banshee", in comparison to this amp, the banshee would be near silent. Fortunately, the design of this amp is a single 2SC5198/2SA1941 pair for each amp and generates about as much heat as a 5 watt bulb under the worst conditions so unplugging the fans turns it into (... wait for it....) a very nice sounding 70w/ch amp.Speaking of 70w/ch, I put it on my test bench with an 8ohm dummy load and got 70w/ch before clipping set in. Quite an accomplishment. Bridge mode was not so great yielding only 107 watts but as with many amps in this price range, the small power supply capability hampers them.So how does it sound?? Well, pretty much like any other slow A/B solid state amp. It does not turn in a memorable performance with any music and in fact is quite undramatic. Perfect for background music. The Toshiba transistor pair is very common in a lot of low end equipment and for good reason. Now the bad.For me, I did not intend to use this amp for much other than a parts bin. In parts alone, this amp is worth three times the selling price but for those keeping it be aware that it is hampered by poor build quality. The amp modules are of low grade single layer construction and notably, already bowed despite being mounted on their side. The power supply board fares much better. Although did not remove it for a closer look, it is clearly of better quality than the amp boards. The best part is that the rear input/output board is monolithic and connected to the front panel so the amp modules have only power, speaker and pre-in leads. Perfect for a project amp!One last thing. The meter lights might have been useful but they're calibrated to light when it's too late. Once the signal light flashes, that's peak output before distortion rears it's ugly head. If you see the "vu" meter lights, it's distortion city. Since this chassis is used for other models, I suspect, they're not calibrated for the bottom end amp (which this one is).So that's it. I posted a photo of the internals for the hobbyists (hopefully, they didn't delete it). Hope you find this info helpful. 4Bravo! This is a great amp - period! I've read reviews on this amp - after I bought it! I have NO problems! I will admit that I am ONLY using it as my home entertainment amp [for now]. Nevertheless, THIS AMP is going in my studio as soon the wife goes to visit her sister. It has 2 cooling fans - that some reviews claim to be so loud and noisy. I've been running this amp now for 8 hours now and so far, I can only assume that these fans kick in when the amp is extraordinarily pushed, which stands to reason - due to the advertisement of it claiming 1000 watts!, etc... Well, how many decibels can the human ear withstand, before going deaf? Then again, if it's good music, it's a good way to go! :] 5This amplifier is awesome I still use it daily I call this product Pyle on the go. I have brought this amplifier every single gig that I had and trust me I have had a lot of gigs . I have pushed it to its limit and yet it is still going strong . This amplifier is awesome I still use it daily. The fans get a little noisy when you crank up the gain. I am planning on getting high watts . I love how PYLE PUT tiny fit below the amp it really helps a great deal because it allows the amplifier to breath properly .Great product 5More than I expected I read the reviews and was not expecting much.... a simple amp that might be able to keep up with my professional equipment I have acquired over the years. I was very happy and surprised to find the quality was just about as good as my $750 amps. Considering I was just gonna use this for the floor monitors, I may have to now reconsider and power a couple of mains. 5Would like replacement with working model Played for twenty min. then quit. After several hrs. of off time, it would only play for 5 min. Sent it back for replacement, and they told me there was nothing wrong with it. Sent back in original Amazon box, with packing receipt, and they told me they need proof of purchase. It seems to me I've done all I can. They are un-coperative . Would like replacement with working model, Sincerely, Mr. Hawley 1
