Customer Reviews

Decent Price Bought these to have on hand because we end up needing them now and then for our Toro mower. The socket that I used worked like a charm. My biggest issue with this set is that it is ridiculously difficult to get the socket off of the plastic that they are on. I foolishly assumed that I would be able to pull one off using my average human strength. No dice. So I grabbed some pliers and managed to separate the socket I wanted from the rest of the pack, but I still couldn't use it because it still had plastic shoved up in it. I went to my workbench and grabbed a long screwdriver and finally managed to get the plastic out by pushing the socket down onto the screwdriver. My hand stung for a minute when I finally got it out. I seriously hope that I don't need the other sizes. 4Great set but what a nightmare it was removing it ... Great set but what a nightmare it was removing it from the plastic (as you can see in the photo the plastic broke off and had to be removed from each socket! 3The packaging is the worst I have ever encountered The packaging is the worst I have ever encountered. There is no way to remove the clip that goes into the end opposite the socket. You cannot remove it and reuse the plastic bracket that holds all of them. So I placed the one I needed to use in a vice and took a Flathead screwdriver to pop out the broken tab. Then I tried to use the socket and it would not seat onto the plug. so back to the vice and same thing popped out the entire plastic insert from the socket and it worked. So the packaging is poor and what is the point of the insert on the socket as its not rubber but hard plastic, so it serves no purpose. 3Terrible insert for holding the spark plug The sockets themselves are good, however the holder they come in has molded plastic. I could not remove any of the sockets from the holder. I had to use a hammer and punch! Additionally the insert is molded plastic and not a foam rubber. As a result the socket gets stuck on the spark plug. On the second plug the insert came out of the socket and was stuck on the spark plug. The plug was deep into the head of the motor and it took me over 30 minutes to be able to remove the plug since the insert was stuck on the plug and the socket could not get back on the spark plug. As a result the brand new plug broke and I had to run out and buy another one. Now i have a spark plug socket with no way to hold the plug in place. 2Look for a better set elsewhere This should be really easy to make a perfect product. It's basically just a few sockets, with cushioning inside for the spark plugs. The trouble started when I tried to get the first socket off of the plastic holder that it ships on. It looks like it pulls right out, so I pulled on it, and the plastic snapped off, with some of it still in the socket, so you couldn't attach a wrench. I tried to pull it out with pliers but the piece was too small. I ended up having to drill out the piece of plastic. It took me ten extra minutes to get the plastic out of the socket before I could even use the set.Once I was able to use the set it worked fine on the first three spark plugs. Then when installing 4,5, and 6, the spark plug cushion would come off with the newly installed spark plug. So you have a tight spark plug, under the engine out of reach, with the cushion still on it. It was an incredible pain to remove and reinstall the spark plugs multiple times until the cushion finally stayed in the socket.Look elsewhere. 2The plastic framework that serves as a package is useless as a storage module It is single-use throw away ... The plastic framework that serves as a package is useless as a storage module It is single-use throw away and actually a little worse than if the concern had simply dumped the sockets loose in a bag. Nevertheless, it is not a problem. Some of the sockets will come loose if stovetop heat is applied others will break off leaving the insert segment inside. Broken off or still attached to the plastic superstructure, it is simplicity itself to simple insert a metal punch into the socket and tap the plastic p.o.s out. Works every time,.The tools themselves fit a ratchet wrench of the stated size and should serve perfectly well for their stated purpose. 5Don't waste your money. The plastic won't come out rendering these completely unusable. 1Depends on your needs and application I was originally looking for a 14mm (9/16") socket to do the plugs on a 2011 Prius and thought why not give these a try. Well I had also bought the ABN 14mm socket just in case. The ABN is much better at holding the plug for taking in and out a deep well with just the right amount of pressure on the plugThe one with this set held the plug just too tight for my liking. I kept the set anyway just to have some other sizes on hand for equipment where plugs aren't "buried". The inserts seem like plastic of some sort without much "give" of flexibility. Could be interesting if one stayed on a plug in a deep well.As far a getting the plugs off the plastic I put the plastic stem in a vice up close to base of the socket and used a screwdriver and hammer to knock the socket out of the stem. 3Really good sockets!!!! I like these alot. I've only used a few times so far since I got them. But they have been very good to me.I do suggest that you get yourself something like this one "Great Neck OEM 25292 27-Inch Magnetic Claw Pickup Tool" just in case it does happen to slip off or something. Last time I used them the little rubber grip stayed on the new plugs that I installed and there is almost no way to get them out with any regular tool or thin pliers. So my Claw sprang in to action and it worked really good and got the rubber grip off the new plugs and kept working....LOL. The rubber grip probably slipped off cause I was using a lot of dielectric grease when installing the new plugs. So I'm not worried about that too much especially cause I had a way of getting them out.Set wise I think there is a six piece set out there but this 5 piece set should have you covered for most vehicle applications out there. Even the 5 piece is hard to come by, most sets out there are 3 or 4 piece. So just get this one and the Claws. hahaha 5Figured out how to get it out of the package! (both a useful tool and a puzzle) This is a great product, not only is it a socket set, but it is also a puzzle. I ordered it without reading the comments. Then when it came I could not get it out of the packaging. I then googled how to get the sockets separated from the packaging, and ended up in this comment section. I found some very humorous and entertaining comments. However, none of them helped me get the thing apart and sounded like I would end up with third degree burns. So, the challenge was on, I would have to figure this out myself. Drum roll..... Here is what you do:1. Break off the plastic by twisting a socket back and forth.2. Then get a small screwdriver and place it inside the socket and hold the socket and bang it on a cutting board a few times and the plastic will fly out.So, 5 stars for being a tool and a puzzle. 5
