    Works, accurate, durable I originally purchased a Polar RS100 which came with the Polar soft strap and sensor.I ended up tossing the soft strap and sensor as it was constantly dropping out and eventually it would never pick up my heart rate again.This older more durable strap seems to work better for me as I have never had my heart rate drop out and it only takes a minute or two for the built in sensor to pick up my heart rate.I think the problem with the newer Polar soft strap was that the internal wiring was damaged over time by cinching the strap too tightly. With the T31 strap this problem isn't possible as all the electronic components are separate from the elastic strap.I believe this strap is far more durable than the newer straps and I'm glad I went this route instead of just buying a new updated soft strap and sensor.This strap would be perfect if it had a replaceable battery. There are You Tube videos out there demonstrating how to replace the battery in the T31 strap however it takes a little bravery and being competent with hand tools. Then again if your battery is dead then you really have nothing to lose. You either ruin your already dead T31 strap or you buy a new one.The loss of comfort from the soft strap to the T31 strap is minimal. Honestly I can't even really tell. If you have a good work out going I doubt any person could really notice.I recommend this strap over the soft strap unless Bluetooth is required. If you need Bluetooth this strap isn't for you. 4Not working with my Life Fitness. Never was given the choice of strap size. The strap received is Medium and it is too TIGHT. My older Life Fitness does NOT read the signal the devise should put out!Update January 9, 2019: Both the manufacturer and seller are selling this device WITHOUT a DATE of manufacture. Without a date, the buyer is taking an undue risk purchasing this and buying something that has been a round some years and very possibly collecting dust on some seller's shelf. In the past I have had 3 of these belt transmitters purchased locally -- NO problems. The idea is that BOTH the manufacture AND seller sell these without disclosing battery replacements. This means you throw it away and BUY a new one! Watch YouTube videos of people replacing the common CR button cell. I have not done this, but the demonstration deserves merit. Again, this unit will most likely be returned to Amazon as a defective unit.UPDATE January 15, 2019: Seller completely dismissed the fact that the belt does not transmit heart rate to my Life Fitness. This far over weighs the idea that the strap is too small. This is referred to as discounting and is not nice. The thing does NOT WORK and will go back. 1Outstanding device - highly recommend Rock solid and compatible with *most* commercial gym equipment (cycles, ellipticals, treadmills, stair steppers, etc.). I use it almost every day so the machine gets my heartbeat without my having to place my hands on the machine's sensors. (Machines use your heartbeat to compute various parameters for the workout, display, calories burned, etc.) The coded transmitter works with both coded and uncoded machines. The uncoded transmitter works with undoded machines - but, I don't know if the uncoded transmitter works with the coded machines. Probably does. Get the coded just to be sure.These are sealed units, so there is no battery replacement. You just throw it out and buy a new one when it dies. I have both a coded and uncoded unit that I have been using interchangeably and about equally for 5 years, and both are still functioning.Super high recommend. 5I usually do the cardio setting which requires constant heart rate monitoring and I dislike holding the hand monitors This product doesn't really work at all. Not sure if this is an issue with the gym I use it at but it, for sure, cuts out for a few minutes at a time.I got this to work with the Life Fitness treadmills at the local Planet Fitness. I usually do the cardio setting which requires constant heart rate monitoring and I dislike holding the hand monitors.The device fit well and did transmit my heartrate but after a minute or two it would cut out for a variable of time, usually small but the heart monitor would start low heartrate and work its way up, so the incline would jack way up until the monitor caught up.Some times it is so bad that it stops transmitting for minutes and I have to use the handholds.I am not sure if this is defective or everyone's bluetooth devices are interfering but I stopped using it as it was annoying. 1Better than the ones with replaceable batteries. This one is good for a year or more. I learned my lesson. I used to get the ones with replaceable batteries.. They were ok, but they lasted about three months before they battery casing either corroded or the unit failed.Nothing would bring them back to life.I got these. Permanent battery. But, they last about one year and work with my polar watch and Precor Elliptical.The fit is good, the pickups work, and for a year of no hastle use, it's worth the money. Kind of a waste to have to junk it when it fails, but it lasts longer than the other ones.So, I give it five stars 5A must-have if you are trying to lose weight at the gym I go to the gym and am always frustrated when I can t get a correct heartrate reading on any of the cardio equipment. Especially when running, it is almost impossible to hold the heart rate handles to get an accurate reading. I am 52 and have lost 30 pounds in 5 months, but I had reached a plateau. I finally realized that my heart rate was much too high to burn fat, and I researched which type of telemetry strap would work with the cardio machines. This strap was recommended by the manufacturer of the equipment, and since I started using it about 4 weeks ago, I lost an additional 10 pounds by keeping my heart rate in my target zone (which was MUCH lower than what I thought I needed in order to burn fat).As soon as I get on the machine, I can see my heart rate on the machine s display, and it never has a problem picking up the information from the strap.The strap is comfortable, easy to adjust and put on, and there is no programming on syncing required. I never go to the gym without it, and I can easily make sure that my heart rate returns to normal during my cool down phase before I get off of the machine. 5Junk Lasted about 120 days before it began malfunctioning during workouts. It would cycle between an actual heart rate reading e.g. 75% of max then unexpectedly switch to 0%. This is my third failed belt set that I've purchased in the last two years. I enjoy polar watches but I'm really starting to question whether to keep investing in products which, in my experience, never seem to even get close to the advertised useful life.This belt was supposed to last about 2,500 hours. Mine lasted 120. Caveat Emptor friends. 1Durable and accurate and essential I've used Polar for over 10 years. This will transmit toan elliptical, stationary bike, treadmill, etc. Without needing to wear a wristwatch receiver.I use it every time at the gym and it's very accurate. The three times the HR readings were wildly inconsistent I was actually experiencing atrial fibrillation and was able to get it treated right away. Although the cardiologist says Afib is not life threatening, its much easier to treat in the first hours of an attack. Monitoring HR during exercise is a great fitness tool anyway because it helps avoid over- and under-exertion. These transmitters also last a long time -- in years for me -- without battery loss. The non replaceable battery is not an issue because the strap is thinner and has no protrusion for the battery compartment. Ive tried both coded and non-coded and prefer this one for exercising every day 52 year battery life BUT read the whole review I bought this "NEW" in June of 2016. In July 2018 it started not broadcasting my heart rate for about the first 20 minutes every workout until it gets warm and a little sweaty, then it starts working, slowly coming down from 220 indicated BPM or so to what my actual heart rate is. (my heart doesn't go 220-bpm) There are 25 spinning bikes in the room, it does the same thing ON ALL 25 BIKES, EVERY SINGLE BIKE SAME THING, so it is not the heart rate indicator on "THE BIKE"! I have used Polar HRMs since the 1990s maybe 1980s? Within the last 5 or 10 years or so the battery life has gotten shorter and shorter. Maybe mine sat on the shelf in some department store or in some bike shop for the first 5 or 10 years of its life before I bought it "NEW" from Amazon? I honestly don't know what to do. I have to buy another one because all the equipment i use at the health club (where i work) is Polar compatible. Maybe the non-coded one is cheaper and will last longer, we will see.This is a follow up, March 2019. I tried an experiment for the last month or two. I run the transmitter under water in the sink at the health club for a second or 2, just to make it wet. I put it on wet and i go into the spinning room and it works perfectly the second i turn on the heart rate indicator on the bike. All the way through the workout it works perfectly. SO if you have one that stopped working or works intermittently, run it under water and put it on to see if that makes it work. Maybe it is an indicator that the battery is getting low but this saved me from buying a new one at this time. Good luck! 5but I replaced it following a youtube video and it worked fine. It took awhile to get it to initially ... I purchased my first Polar heart rate monitor and watch set approximately 8 years ago. The watch and chest strap both lasted for about 3 years and then I stopped using them and relied on how I felt to monitor my workouts. I recently decided to use it again to increase my workout performance. I was able to replace the watch battery which died a few years ago but the chest strap was much more difficult-it is not meant to be replaced, but I replaced it following a youtube video and it worked fine. It took awhile to get it to initially read but once it did, it was fine. I thought I would purchase a new one so that it may work better. Well, my shoddily put together 8+ year old chest strap works significantly better than the $40 one I just bought. It takes almost half my workout to even get it to read my heart rate and once it does, it constantly reverts back to "00" and half my calories and heart rate are not even read during half my workout! I am giving it 4 stars because my old original one works fine (even after I ripped it apart and somehow glued it back together again). Maybe the one I recently ordered just happens to be faulty, but it seems like a common theme among most of the reviews. They must be making them differently these days. 4
