Customer Reviews

Excellent device. BewareExcellent device. Beware, this will not work if you have WINDOWS 8.0, unless you can find the correct driver for your PC. Fortunately, my laptop was windows 7.0 and the program worked great. Data from my Polar watch downloaded instantly. I have a polar watch with a chest sensor to transmit heart rate. Since my purchase and tracking my workouts, I have maintained a schedule that normally would be short lived. It's a great motivator knowing that you can actually see your progress and fitness level improving.4Works well to transmit and display VERY limited data I'm using the Flowlink to capture the data created by the FT7.The good: I had no difficulty creating an account and getting the FT7 to communicated with the Flowlink and upload its data. The less good: It's 2015, and there are a host of competing devices on the market to capture and analyze fitness data. Most of them come with some sort of built in ability to communicate data, typically via bluetooth to a smart phone. Polar's FTxx devices need the Flowlink to capture their data, so when you are evaluating a heart rate monitor, you should consider the combined price of the two together (sadly, I didn't). Once you do that, competing devices, with what I assume is more robust data capture and analysis start to look price and feature competitive. As others have noted, the data is displayed only per workout, so it's difficult to compare trends. In addition (and here I don't know if it's a flaw of the FT7, the flowlink, the website, or a combo of all three), little of the data that the device captures is available. For example, I would like to see a continuous graph of my heart rate for one or more workouts. Shouldn't be hard, right? Nope. all I get is max and average heart rate.Bottom line is that I am disappointed. Polar seems to have been making these devices for a number of years, and what was cutting edge in 2010 is not so much any more. Polar should increase the functionality of the devices (firmware updates, website improvements?) or drop the price by 50% 2Polar Flowlink POLAR OPPOSITE of Polar FT7 The Polar Flowlink is as worthless as the Polar FT7 is awesome. It is clumsy to set up and use. You have to take the heart rate monitor off your wrist and place it on top of the flowlink to get a connection. (Compare this with my FitBit Flex which syncs up with my laptop or mobile whenever I am near them.Worst of all, I have yet to get it to work properly. I place the monitor on the Flowlink, and the Flowlink lights up for a second. Then nothing. Polar support is of no use. When I send questions, they answer by sending me links to the trouble shooting guide that I have already used a million times. This is surprising given that the other Polar product I have, the Heart Monitor works so well.Bottom line, Polar Flowlink is the worst fail I have purchased in the last decade. I wish I had never purchased this product. 1Works once in a while!I really don't get it why this device is this expensive and rather than that, why it's not working well!!The LED on the device shows that I've put my FT7 on it correctly and it sees it but it doesn't transfer data via the software...It works once in ten times though! When it works it's good, but it doesn't work always and I found that you need to detach/attach it to get it to work! It's frustrating for a person like me who works out every day and wants to see the results and how much calories burnt in several different sessions once a day!The reason it's not working might be because I put my PC on sleep/hibernate usually rather than shutting it down... But anyways... I'm not gonna change my habit because of this! :|I'll probably gonna return this.1Great Polar Hardware, Poor Polar Software While the Polar Flowlink Gen device works great, the Polar software (Polar training website) that it sends your data to is awful. VERY dated website that is poorly constructed and presented. The Polar website only provides very superficial information: time spent in fat burning zone, time spent in fitness zone, time length of workout, max heart rate, avg. heart rate, and the number of calories burned. Wish I could see graphs of my heart rate throughout the duration of my workout, but the software is unfortunately too archaic to provide this type of information.Back to the hardware - it does work very well. Simply place my ft7 watch on top of the sensor and it the Flowlink automatically reads the data from my workout and uploads the data to my Polar account online. Overall I recommend, but just be wary of the clunky software.BTW, if you want to save some money, you can just manually enter in your workout stats and punch them into your Polar account. The Flowlink just takes the manual input stage out of the process. Just a thought for those on the fence. 4Excellent product for those serious about documenting their training! - 5 Stars First off I would like to state that I have gone through a wide array of heart monitors and my Polar RS 300X has been a great product , that stands heads and shoulders above the rest to include SUUNTO. I believe that anyone who owns the Polar RS300X will find that it makes an excellent pairing with this product. As a Professional Mixed Martial Artist, keeping track of my workouts and the physiological changes in my body is extremely important. This product allows me to log my data into Polar's Personal Trainer and differentiate the type of workout that I was doing, the time of day which it was executed and even quantify the workout with a mathematically determined work load. This allows the user to keep a "running tab" on their results and provides a great snap shaot as to what is happening inside the body.I have been training with the monitor and the flow link for about 3 months now, and can personally attest to the ability to quantify my training load and how it has enabled me to push much further than I have in the past. I changed altitudes from roughly 300 feet sea level to over a mile high at nearly 6000 feet above sea level shortly after purchasing this product. I can clearly see the changes that my body went through and the acclimatization process which I experienced. The great thing was that the ability to quantify training loads assisted me greatly in maximizing my ability to not only quickly adjust to the elevation but begin seeing serious gains in performance. This is a great product for anyone from the stay at home mom who wants to shed some weight, to the average Joe wanting to get in shape or even the serious athlete. Its easy to use, just plug it in to the PC and register on the Polar Personal Trainer website. I'm giving 5 stars. My full review of this product will be available at the Fort Worth Martial Arts Examiner [...] 5Waste of Time and Money The Polar Flowlink never worked with my heart rate monitor. Called for service - their "help desk" only has hours of 8:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday. First person I talked to was moderately helpful but still didn't resolve my issue. Second call got me the advice of "you just have to restart your computer". Tried that several times but, as expected, it didn't work. Now appears to late to return my product - my bad for assuming it would ultimately work and not sending it back right away. Expensive lesson but save your money and don't buy this item. 1DOES work well - Please Read for Helpful Information First off, this product works amazingly well. Works 98% of the time on the first try with no interference, amazingly easy to upload and track information via [...]. Please note several things that may require this item to not work on your computer that many people overlook:1) The installation software MUST be downloaded via Internet Explorer. When I tried to download the software via Google Chrome or FireFox, the Daemon would not install at all, which rendered the product useless, as this daemon file is what allows the upload to the polar website. If you don't download the software via internet explorer, odds are it won't work. Tried this on 4 computers, none of which would install it correctly using ANY browser other than Internet Explorer.2) The FlowLink itself can NOT sit on a metal surface and successfully sync your Heart-rate Monitor. It says in the instructions, in smaller print, that the syncing process is based on a magnetic field to transfer data between your watch and the flowlink pad. If the pad itself is on a metal surface, such as a metal desk, the sync between the watch and your computer has a *very* high chance of failure. I experimented with this and found that it only successfully synced about 30% of the time on a metal surface compared with 98% success on my wooden desk. Please take note of this.3) Despite what the website and other reviewers say, the software and the product are both very compatible with OS's. This product is NOT compatible with a Mac, unfortunately, but it is widely compatible with Windows. I have installed on 4 different machines, 2 running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, one running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and one running Windows XP 64-bit. Works flawlessly on all of the installed machines, so those that complain about a lack of Windows 7 or 64-bit support are probably either trying to download with a browser other than Internet Explorer or have their FlowLink sitting on a metal desk.**NOTE**Be sure to right click the installer file and select "Run as Administrator" when you install. This file does install a Daemon file, which is writing directly to the Windows Services part of the OS. This requires administrator privileges, and just to be safe, make sure that you don't skip this step!!I hope you all find this review helpful, as these are some tidbits of information that I believe will solve most of the problems that people are experiencing. Good luck and happy training!Cheers,Landon 5An experience over time, read below I bought this to use with my RS 300x. I do not use the foot pod or GPS. Item arrived. I downloaded the software. It walked me through step by step what to do. It took maybe a minute to upload 12 sessions that were stored since purchase. I closed the link and everything was then in my account and showing in my diary. Only negative was that I had to go through and delete everything I had entered manually because it showed as a duplicate when it uploaded.I used a USB hub, the FlowLink was set on a wood desk and I didn't move it for the minute it took to sync. I know how frustrating it is when something doesn't work how it is supposed to, but I had no problem at all with it.1/30/12-UPDATE: OH THE IRONY OF MY LAST STATEMENT...Moved this to another computer and now I understand what others are talking about. Place watch on the pad, it starts to upload and then magically it stops....over, and over and over again. After a dozen or so tries it finally uploads. I'm guessing its getting some kind of interference from the wireless network or something and I've e-mailed Polar; we'll see what they say.2-4-2-UPDATE: Help desk has finally returned my e-mail today, saying that they are too busy to respond right now. I'm dropping this original 4 star to a one star. This is going back in one week...what crappy CS2-8-12 UPDATE: Its official, back it goes. One e-mail to say they were busy and never heard from again even after following up. If you buy and it works great, but if you need customer service you can forget it. I started out very happy with this product as Polar simply makes great stuff, BUT...if you have a problem I was sad to learn their epic lack of customer service really is the case. I'd pass on this and the watch if I could and look at other top rated fitness watches. GrrrrrrFINAL UPDATE 2-9-12: After writing Polar to tell them that my flow-link was being interrupted (and sending them my log file) during data transfer and explaining I had made sure it was on a flat wood surface...here is the response I received this morning, is this a company you want to deal with?"The log file indicates that connection between the RS300X and FlowLink isinterrupted. (REALLY?)Usually the tips described in my previous email helps i.e. moving RS300X inFlowLink little bit and making sure the FlowLink is in flat, non-metallicbase. (YES, I TOLD YOU I ALREADY CHECKED THAT)If these does not help, then the problem might be either in your RS300X orin FlowLink. (INCREDIBLE INSIGHT)Please contact local authorized Polar service center in that case. They cantest the system and help further in this problem. (THEY ARE LESS THAN A MONTH OLD) 1Simply doesn't workAfter 6 or 7 hours trying to make the Polar FlowLink device work, plus an additional 3 or 4 hours on the phone with various tech support personnel (all of whom were friendly and courteous), the "head" tech guy gave me an address to send it back to them so that they could either fix it or send another one. I decided instead to return the FlowLink to Amazon for a refund.I bought the FlowLink to sync with the Polar FT60. I considered returning the FT60 as well and looking for something better that would sync online, but the various reviews I've read seem to indicate that even though the FT60 technology feels clunky and outdated and is not very user friendly at all, it still seems like the best available option I could find to monitor heart rate in 3 programmable zones at least in that price range. In short, the FT60 gets the job done. The FlowLink does not.1Works Great - Notes on using with Firefox and Windows 7 I've used this for a week now with my Polar FT60 Men's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black with White Display) and I'm very pleased with the device and its integration with Polar's Personal Trainer website. I'd like to add some additional information about the installation of the driver and support software, to build on other visitors' helpful comments.I don't know if there are different revisions of the Flowlink hardware, but mine had a 2010 date stamp on the packaging. As I write this, the current version of the WebSync software (which is required for this device) is 2.1. It was posted on June 3, 2010. The PC I have Flowlink connected to is running 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, and the browser I use is Firefox 3.6.According to other reviews it sounds like there might have been issues in the past with Polar's website that prevented successful downloading/installation of the product with any browser other than Internet Explorer. Whether or not that was ever the case, it's definitely not true now; Firefox works just fine. When you create an account on the [...] (you need to do this anyway in order to use the Flowlink), the site immediately presents you a download link to the WebSync software. Now I didn't have to use the "Run as Administrator" option to launch the installer, because I always disable the User Account Control (UAC) feature on all my Windows PCs. (This feature protects you from many viruses and trojans, but it also has a nasty side effect of breaking many device driver installations without any warning or indications of failure. You can disable it in the User Accounts control panel of Windows 7. Note that you must restart your computer in order for the change to take effect, and Windows doesn't always remind you to do this.) If you do not have UAC disabled, do be sure to right-click the installer and pick "Run as Administrator."The first time I ran the installer I was a little confused; after the setup wizard appeared on my screen, Windows asked me if I wanted to run an executable file which looked like it was the same program I had just downloaded. I assumed I had accidentally launched the installer twice and answered No. Oops! That canceled the setup wizard. I had to launch the installer a second time and then click Yes when Windows asked if I wanted to run the program after the setup wizard appeared. Once that happened, everything installed without a hitch.Once it's all set up it literally could not be any easier to use. So long as you're logged on to your computer all you need to do after completing your workout is drop your Polar watch face-down on the Flowlink and wait a couple seconds. I've even done it when my PC was locked (I was still logged in, Windows was just showing the "Locked" login screen). You can set it so that WebSync automatically launches the personal trainer site after sync completion so you can see your time spent in the different zones for the day.So, it installs and it works on Windows 7. Love it when that happens. 5Not as good as Garmin or other products This review is about the Polar Flowlink and software ONLY. While the Polar Heartrate Monitor itself functions fine (although the display is tough to read), the Flowlink software you have to use for the Flowlink is quirky and inflexible at best. I used the uplink successfully a few times but now every time I try to sync the Flowlink it indicates I have to update to the newest WebSync software. Fine, no problem there. I'll just use the update feature...but that doesn't work. The error provides states you might have to manually log off and re-download the software. Ok, a minor inconvenience but not insurmountable. Logged out, go to the website and so far the new download/website download feature is unavailable (??) just as a prior review stated. This has lasted several days so I can't get my data. Still can't. The website just won't allow you to download the upgraded Websync. Without the Websync...no download. Problems with their website? Really? Additionally when it does work remember that Polar doesn't want you to export your data to anything else. This product is NOT well supported and is pretty inflexible. Polar needs to step up their game. 2Works as advertised, if you don't mind using Polar's PersonTrainer web site. If you want to get data from your watch to your computer, you either do it by hand, or use this. PROS: The software installed from their website pretty seamlessly and my FT7 watch synced with it without much positioning at all. And upload time was pretty good. Have not seen any SPAM from Polar since I activated my account. CONS: You have to use Polar's website to view the data, which means you have to register an account with Polar. And the watch only records avg heart rate, max heart rate and the percentage you spent in each zone, so that's all you get on the website. Polar has two similar sites, PolarFlow and PolarPersonalTrainer, and there is a lot of overlap of function between the two, but you have to upload into PolarPersonalTrainer to get the data into PolarFlow. I include these comments about the website because without the website, the device is useless. If you have a recent bluetooth-enabled smartphone, spend a few more $$ and get the H7 strap and the PolarBeat App. But if you were using one of their watches and you want to upload the data from the watch, the Flowlink is the only way to do it (besides typing it into a spreadsheet by hand). 4
