Customer Reviews

Not Identical to an Earlier Generation of this Same Product# This mechanism has the exact same product # as one in a clock we've had on the mantle for 10 years, and it appears identical--until you try to install it. The hand mount is not the same as the old version. There is an extra nut and washer that extend the hands a couple millimeters farther from the face than they once were. Also, the "nipple" is mounted on a screw mechanism that not only adds another 2 millimeters to the extension, but also has a bigger "footprint" in terms of diameter. Both of these subtle changes affected the usefulness of this product as a replacement. First, we can no longer use the glass face that went over the clock since the hands now extend into the space where the glass would be mounted. Second, the "nipple" had to be forced through the hole in the solid face (the part with the time markings), slightly damaging the face itself. While neither of these adaptations are readily perceptible from more than a few feet away, the clock can still be used with this mechanism, which I suppose makes it other than worthless. But if my wife were fussy like some are, this thing would have been sent back to China with a screaming complaint. 3An exact replacement. Several years ago I bought a nice decorative mantle clock with a battery mechanism. It lasted ~ 8 years then finally wore out. I looked for replacement mechanisms at Michaels and AC Moore but no luck. I found this mechanism on Amazon sold by Lily Glory. The exact same product, same model number, same shaft color. The conversion was simple and it was an exact fit. I re-used the original hands for convenience. The item was shipped promptly and I received it in a timely manner. 5Good movement, hands oddly long Movement is as described, installed cleanly in mantel clock. Operation quiet, doesn't tick, second hand motion smooth. If you need the hands, pay close attention to hour hand measurement. It was too long for my clock, and fancy design precludes trimming. (The second hand is simple and could be trimmed if needed.) I was replacing a worn out movement, and the existing hands worked.Handy tip: attach a narrow ribbon, ~3 " long to the back of the unit, extending out the battery edge of the case. Lay it behind the battery when you install one. Then you can more easily extract the battery later on. To secure the ribbon, run it between the gasket and the case, then tighten the nut holding the case to the clock. 4The design did not match; the shaft clock hand ... The design did not match; the shaft clock hand attachments are different. Apparently they use the same part number for different designs, since the part number on mine was also #12888. Also there is no way to interchange the parts; both internal and external designs are different. 1Excellent product,Excellent price. I worked in a clock retail store 2 years ago.I know the Youngtown clock movement is one of the best in the world.I fixed my clock with this item, I am sure it is original Youngtown #12888. Sweep & silent. And It is necessary to measure the size of your old one as the fourth picture shows. 5Mechanism continually malfunctioning Once I installed the mechanism it worked fine for about a week and a half to two weeks, then completely stopped. I changed the battery (which was brand new) and it stopped later that day. I keep resetting the time and it slows down so it reads the wrong time or completely stops. This is very poor quality and a complete waste of money. Now I have to spend more money finding a reputable supplier to replace the clock mechanism for a second time. 1The kind of company that I enjoy dealing with because.... This is the kind of company that I enjoy dealing with because---1) they appreciated my business even though it was a small dollar amount, 2) they appreciated that I left them a positive feedback and NO other company has ever done that, so they care, 3) the product I wanted can easily be confused with literally a dozen or two other models that will not work, so they carefully described the product so I could not make a mistake, 4) the price was very competitive, 5) delivery was on time, and 6) if I need to make a return I am confident that they would done it immediately. That is why I would recommend dealing with these folks. 5Perfect repair based on great info in the description We have a gift clock - a Warner Bros character clock that annoyingly announced each hour with a character's voice. We took the batteries out of that after a couple of hours. The clock's movement died and most of the replacements would not accommodate the original hands. I spotted this one on Amazon and the details in the ad provided what I needed to get the right movement. A perfect match; an easy repair; the old hands were reinstalled = a happy customer. Great job. 5Very confusing. Many versions of 12888 movement. Look carefully! Very confusing when ordering this part since 12888 has several versions. I thought I was ordering the right one. "White longer stem", or whatever, but it wasn't and after trying to make it fit I threw it away. It arrived on time and well packaged, but I think the one I want is for DYI large clocks that has a little metal end. So look REAL carefully at what you are trying to replace! 3Exactly what I needed... ... to replace the movement on a unique decorative clock my wife purchased a few years earlier. But BEWARE, there are MANY subtly different versions of this product, and many dimensions to be concerned with. In my case I measured the mounting shaft diameter and length, and the diameter of each of the three mounting bosses for the hands, using a precision digital caliper. All the dimension for this one were within a few hundredths of a millimeter of the one I had, so I ordered it, figuring that if it didn't fit I could adjust the hands, and even if I couldn't I'd only be out 9 bucks or so. And surprise, everything fit perfectly.I've got no way of knowing if this unit will still be running in five years, but for now, I'm quite happy. 5
