Customer Reviews

OUT FREAKIN STANDING no writing on top can burn what you want. I would buy again..wait I did Have had before. They all worked. No bad discs. Work great when used in computer. Will not record on DVD recorder /player. Have DVD/VHS recorder and player and DVD recorder player different brands. Will not record on DVD+RDL. Big block comes up can not record on this disc. Put same disc in computer did perfect job. The double layer (they say) give better picture. A lot of the movies are on DL. Some like 007 ( I was told longer than two hours) and to get better picture than standard DVD is why it is used. Standard DVD is 4.7 GB and DL 8.5 so to me that seems right.### There is nothing on the top no right writing- nothing. . You can burn what you want. OUT FREAKING STANDING. deserves many stars more that 5.At one time I could not get all Verbatin in pack to work. I ordered 20 and about 10 did not work. I took a chance on them over year ago. Glad I did.Worked great. Would buy again. Wait I did. Would recommend to friend. 5Pleasantly surprised at the quality I've always used Verbatim media, but after seeing the price of Quantum media I just had to try it out. It has not disappointed me and has provided DL media at an extremely affordable price. It is compatible with both PC and Mac software and works well with most DVD burners on the market (keep in mind that this is speculation since there are only a few manufacturers that make media burners these days). I would recommend these to anyone. 5Completely unusable for me... With my HP PC and its factory-equipment Atapi DH16AYH drive running the latest available firmware (YH14) I haven't burned a successful disc yet in 5 attempts. Some of my burning software is sophisticated enough to recognize and report "a problem burning" and eject the disc early in the attempt, while others like Infrarecorder will force the burn process, saying it "completed successfully", but even the "successful" discs are unreadable in nearly all drives, including the one that burned it! Interestingly, I have one little Sony portable DVD player that stuggles to read the disc, and frequently freezes, but does at least try to play the ones that completed the burning process... +1 for Sony DVD players...I've always had good luck with them.To prove the problem was not with my drive, I tried some older 2.4X DL Verbatim discs I had, and they burned successfully with ALL my burning software, and were 100% readable in every drive I tried them in, with no freezing, no delays in reading the TOC, etc. The Single layer Verbatim discs I ordered at the same time I purchased these have also been perfect so far... not one "coaster" yet...I tried to save a little money, but I've learned my lesson. I will not buy any more blank DVD optic media that doesn't say Verbatim on it. As for anything else, expect the worst, - at least then you won't be disappointed when they fail miserably. 1Good but not 100% Success I do a lot of burning every November. I make Pee Wee football season video sets. These sets fill up 2 and sometimes 3 double layer DVDs. I like these disks because they are hub printable so I'm able to put more artwork and text on the disks.Generally, I find these disks to be a good value. I usually get about 3 or 4 bad disks out of the stack. Keep in mind, I burn basically edge to edge (full disks) so if there are flaws, I will find them. Even with a 5% or 6% error rate, the cost per disk for these hub printable spindles are still the lowest. I just make sure I run a verify on the disk and I'm good to go.To provide a little more info, I use 3 different LG burners and have experienced bad burns on all of them. So I believe the issue is with the disks. Those burners are:Blue Ray Burner: LG WH12LS30Blue Ray Reader / DVD Burner: LG UH12LS29DVDRW: LG GH22NS40That said, I have been overally very pleased with the value of these disks. Once they have been verified after the burn they have proven to be quite reliable. 4Got to burn XGD2 Xbox 360 games 2 Spindles: only one coaster out of 100. Using an Asus DRW-24B1ST writer, which is a re-badged Lite-On Ihas124-04 rev. c. These discs compared to the Verbatim 97000 are exactly the same. They do need custom settings in imgburn to work this well, though. First, you must turn perform OPC before write 'on' in the tools/settings/write tab/page 1 menu. Then go to the change advanced settings/Lite-On menu. Force Hyper-Tuning should be disabled (default), Online Hyper-Tuning should be enabled, Over-Speed should be disabeld (default) and SmartBurn should be enabled (default). When changing Hyper-Tuning, you need to click change and make sure it confirms it then click OK. Set the burn speed at 4x. Then select the .DVD file and burn. There is no need to force 2.4x with these discs, no matter what you are burning. It will be flawless every time. I have burned everything from backup games to DVDs to pictures and data. As long as you keep the speed at 4x and use those settings, you won't have any coasters... unless the disc is defective. The only coaster I had was the very first disc of the first spindle. Being that it was the top disc it looked like it was damaged due to heat. The outer edge of the disc was pitted. The other 99 discs were perfect, and I am planning on ordering a 3rd spindle. For the price of 4 spindles of these, you would have only gotten 2 spindles of Verbatims. Think about that. 4Low quality, brand does matter I am an amateur video producer who creates 2+ hour long vidoes of children's theater. I have used disks from RiData, Verbatim and now Quantum. While I was able to make several DVDs with the Quantum disks that passed the burn verification stage they have a few problems that the Verbatim disks do not. When played in my older DVD player, these disks will not fast forward at anything more than 2x and will not play backward. With the identical source burned on the same machine, the verbatim disks do. Additionally a few have locked up around half way through then started playing again. I'm assuming this is in the transition between layers. I had hoped to find an equivilant to the verbatim disks for a lower price but have not.If you plan to use these only with a computer you'll probably be fine, but if you plan to play them on a home DVD player, I'd recommend against it. 2Combinations Matter I see negative comments for double layer disks all the time and most people don't know that there is a sharp divide on brands. NOT so much on the bands of the disks, but the combination of the brands of the disks and the brands of the burners. I've used these disks for years without hassle in both my LG and Plextor drives. Other disks, from high quality brands, have failed. Before I had these two drives, I had others and some brands worked fine (including these) and some didn't. You won't really know without trying them. But you also need to make sure you have the latest driver for your optical drive and a computer that can handle high data flow. Also, you must take GREAT CARE to not overload the databus with other computer operations when burning double layer disks. Opening up video files and other high demand operations can cause a good combination to fail too.I suggest you get one package (possibly a package of 3 disks), use a good burn program, and have nothing else open during the burn (don't go checking your email, downloading files, etc. until the disk operation has completed. IF you have problems then, you don't have a good combination, try a different brand of disks (which is easier to change than the optical drive). I can do video capture during my disks burns with these disks. But I know other operations that do cause errors. I've burned several hundred of these disks and have ordered more. 5Worked as good as the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs I've always ordered and used the Verbatim 96542 8.5 GB 8x-10x Double Layer Recordable Disc DVD+R DL, 30 Disc Spindle and that has served me well in the past. I thought I would give these Optical Quantum discs a try based on the reviews and significantly lower cost/disc. So far I've used about 10 discs and they have worked flawlessly, just as good as the Verbatim's. My OS is Windows XP and my DVD drive is LG Electronics 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Internal Drive GH24NS50 (Black). Like others have said, when there are problems with using different brands of discs, a lot of the time it's not the discs, but the computer's other components that may be off. These discs have worked great for me, so I will go for them again when it's time to replenish.Update after 5 months of use: I've used 32 of the 50 discs so far and 2 of them would not work -- the discs failed during the writing process. So I'd guess I'll run into another dud before I'm done with the spindle. Still, getting 47 good ones for the price is still cheaper than the Verbatim's that I normally get. I plan to order another spindle of these before the year is out. 5Buyer Beware!! These are a UMEDISK (made in China), they are flat out garbage. For those of you having problems saying that they're is not enough room you should probably know that the disk format capacity is actually 6.70 GB I've been using disc maker and I'll be going back to it. even Phillips is better than these. 1A little disappointed that these don't seem to be more compatible with my burners After the great performance of the bluray discs I bought from this manufacturer, I was a little disappointed that I actually ended up with some 'coasters' from this batch, due to what seems to be a lack of compatibility with my bluray burner. Or that some of my burning software does not seem to handle these particular discs well. I'm not sure if Optical Quantum is to blame, the software companies, or the burner manufacturers. Anyway, I have found a work-around by using my older burner and sticking to a particular software for burning, so I'm not getting coasters nearly as much, but I have to burn at 4x instead of 8x, which is advertised on the Spindle cover. Not sure if I will buy these again, but if they come out with a newer version, rated for 16x instead of 8x, maybe I will. No fault to the vendor, who shipped the product out in plenty of time and in appropriate packaging. 3
