Customer Reviews

Disc Rot in less than 2.5 years.Purchased and burned my first batch of Optical Quantum back in March 2017.Zero coasters. Seems good. Purchased 10 more spindle.Kept in cool and dark cupboard.Humidity is high in Singapore, so I kept a disposable dehumidifier in the cupboard.Occasionally, I would pop the disc back into computer to verify or copy back a few video files. All seems good until this month, August 2019, I needed to retrieve a few important files. They were files from my old phone, which I no longer have. The drive reads the disc fine initially, but half way through, the drive froze.I ejected the disc for a visual inspection. To my horror, nearly half of the disc has rotten away.I then check the other discs. Many of them shows varying level of disc rot.I number the discs serially, and the level of rot is worst on the earlier burned disc. The rot seems to only occur on burned areas and always starts from outside in.The rotten part seems lighter in shade and less reflective. My guess is that the aluminium reflective layer has oxidized. To keep this short, I've spent the next few sleepless nights mass migrating my BDs back to HDDs.Finding other sources for the lost data.Luckily, I found an old forgotten HDD which contains most of my important files.I've since purchased another HDD to back this up.Overall, I'm quite disappoint with its quality.11 spindle of Optical Quantum down the drain. That's more than $200.No more cheap brands for me.I give it 2 stars because the discs manage to hold on for 2 years.I assume some people might still have uses for a 2-year disc.2All Disks Good So Far; Used for Blu-Ray Video; Good Price I have been through about 50% of the of the disks and have not had a single failure. I am using them to make a set of Blu-Ray video disks for friends and family using a Blu-Ray .iso file (Star Trek Continues--look it up if you are a Star Trek fan--no copyright infringement to download and watch or watch streaming). Disks play on my computer and in my Sony Blu-Ray player. 5Always back up on optical media.I haven't had any issues with these yet. Burns rather well using 'PowerISO'. Good for the price.UPDATE: My last Blu-Ray burner died on me (MSI Motherboards tend to destroy CPUs and other devices so avoid at all costs) so after doing a new system build, I bought an LG burner and the discs are compatible and my old burns are still readable with this new drive.I did lose ALLOT of data because the MSI motherboard destroyed my three HDDs and stuff I have been working on for over a decade are gone forever. Yes I have old versions of my work on DVD but it's just as good as dead and gone. So ALWAYS back up your data. And always back up your very important data on M-Disc whenever possible. And avoid MSI motherboards because it was the third motherboard that did this to me. Let me suggest ASUS or ASRock if you plan on building a system in the near future.56x discs that are incompatible with 6x burners? Inconceivable! It is ludicrous that these discs are labeled as 6x, as they are evidently incompatible with 6x BD-R burners. That would be like a gas station selling regular unleaded fuel that was only compatible with FlexFuel vehicles. My Pioneer BDR-XD05S with current firmware (3.10) did not recognize these discs as writable.1All "Copied Successfully" as of 4/2018 ...Just like the old ones. Not sure why all the neg reviews.... Just as always, if it's a 6x disc, burn at 4x ...and don't be multitasking while burning, leave the computer alone while burning. Nothing has changed.I just went thru half this sleeve and no failed burns. Running both a Pioneer BD 2209 in one PC and an LG WH14NS40 in the other PC ...Burning with Nero . They work great , just as they did in 2012,13,14,15 ...55 disks burned so Far - No CoastersCheap blank discs tend to make more coasters than serve as reliable storage devices for important files. I tend to import and buy the more expensive discs from Japan because I don't have time to find out I have had a bad burn. These discs are a good value cost-wise and I have had no coasters on my first 5 burns. There are 20 more blanks to try on this spindle. I hope to re-order this brand if I make it through the spindle with no coasters.I don't know about longevity. I have never had a disc of any brand that failed after a good burn. I have discs I burned 20 years ago that won't read on my newer reader, but the discs still work on my oldest readers. If I remember, I will update this review in 20 years. (haha)For print quality, the top surface is a bit shinier than the expensive brand disc, thus making it slightly harder to label with a sharpie pen. But the marks are readable and tend not to rub off.4Good price to quality ratio, higher percentage of bad discs recently!Good price to quality ratio. Been buying these for the last 3 years, only about 5% end up as coasters.Update (2019/05/25): The latest discs have a much higher % of coasters, unverifiable discs after writing contents. The discs themselves feel thinner. Everything in terms of packaging looks the same as before, with the only exception of "Manufactured by Optidisc Taiwan" vs "Manufactured by Optidisc" before (though both old and new ones may have been made in Taiwan). Much disappointed by the high percentage of coasters, mostly due to having to reburn and waste time.Update (2019/07/09): Coasters, coasters, coasters. Nearly all are bad in the most recent order and don't verify. Last time I ordered this brand. It has become complete garbage, so the discs that were bad in the update from 5/25 are not an exception. Stay away from this product.1Reliable mediaI have been seeing reviews of data corruption with this 6X media or people having coasters. Not sure exactly what is the case here but I assume it has to be an issue with their setup.I am running on a Windows 10 PC using Nero 2016 v17 and an LG WH14NS40 drive.I went back to check on media which I burned about a year ago (April 2018) and ran a test in VSO Inspector. All of the data was good. I don't have any other media with 6x which is older but will post an update if anything changes.5They're Garbage, Don't Waste your MoneyThese discs are garbage, the (brand new) blu-Ray burner says they're dirty & unwritable, it rejects every disc. We've been through 17 discs so far, not a single one of this Particular brand has been successfully written.1So far so good. Was testing quality transfer with these BD's. They seem good and steady.Considering these are rated as 3rd class BD's.Now all thats left is to see "lifespan". How many years it will LAST?Kept my burns at 6x to 20-22GB only. Never liked using the maxon any of my discs. Havent had issues on any in the past cd/dvds.Using LG Electronics 14x SATA Blu-ray.edit: update , BD-rs almost 3 years[life span in] in burned. So far so good, still holds data. Burning at 4x with LG burner. Hoping I can get 5 years or more out of them. Will try to remember to update, while the years go by, and if amazon still carries this brand. 4Great affordable bluray media, reliable thus far!As a new owner of a Blu-ray burner to be used exclusively for archiving data, I've been looking into the best types of media. Many sources states the Verbatim disks available here are a sure bet:Verbatim BD-R 25GB 6X with Branded Surface - 25pk Spindle 97457 I purchased those first, tried them out, and I do like them. But with a recent significant price cut on the 50-pack spindle of the Optical Quantum, I had to give them a try. Sorting through the many reviews though is tricky. Here are all the facts of my setup (I think all these facts matter when you're trying to figure out if it's a hardware, media, or user error issue):My media was purchased on 5/27/17 and arrived 5/29/17. The burnable side is a grey/gold color. The media ID on these is OTCBDR-002-000. That's the same as the Plexdisc available here:PlexDisc 633-214 25 GB 6x Blu-ray White Inkjet Printable Single Layer Recordable Disc BD-R, 50-Disc Spindlethough those have an InkJet printable front surface. The non-burnable surface of these is a goldish grey with a somewhat matte finish.Looking at the Blu-ray Disc Association License office website, these are made by Amethystum Storage Technology Co., Ltd. Looks like a Chinese company? The disks are HTL.My burner is a LG WH16NS40, which I purchased earlier this month. It is on the latest 1.02 firmware, as my burner is the NS50 revision (though the model # does not reflect that). My burning software is the excellent freeware program Imgburn v2.5.8.0.If you search the Myce forums for the media ID, you find some folks reporting they don't burn very well at the rated 6x. However, since receiving the Optical Quantum disks, I have burnt and verified 9 disks without issue. I intend to go back and do a random check of the data soon to ensure the burn lasts.I have used only the 6x speed, as that's what they're rated for. It takes ~16+minutes to burn 25gbs. I then use ImgBurn's verify after each burn, which takes another 14 minutes. So far, I have not had any errors. The 'verify' technique on ImgBurn compares the written data to the source data, so I do trust it. (To be completely transparent, the author of the software has stated that if it passes this verify, it means that the data matches, in that drive, and is readable, at that time--for sure, media can degrade). With Amazon's excellent return policy, I had no qualms about giving these a try, and so far I'm quite satisfied.5Awesome price for quality discs Don't be fooled by the unknown brand name, as it is hard to come by BD-Rs that are actually a known brand without paying an arm and a leg for them. I've used about half this spool with zero disc errors. Don't hesitate because the low price does not indicate that they are cheaply made! 5BD-Rs at an amazing priceThis is my second spindle, my first spindle of 100 dl discs were perfect, not one coasterHalf way through this spindle & same resultI read a review that trashed this brand, but my experience has been positive. I would suggest the reviewer check his hardwareAs a professional video producer I use these discs for proofing & reviewing before my productions are sent to the replication house in file form for mass duplication So far these discs have been reliableIf I come across a 'bad batch' I'll update, butso far so good5
