    Defective from the get go Not every day I write a garbage review but it's not every day I receive a garbage item. This didn't work right out of the box and I'm assuming I got one that was previously used and defective. The casing was peeled back like something had been attempted to be fixed before. Also, the directions state to remove the plastic battery saving tab and there was none there. I even spent another few bucks and a trip to the store for a battery thinking that would solve the problem but still no go. Made sure my camera was in the remote commander mode, even tested the remote with my camcorder to see if it was picking up an Infrared light and it was not. Returned this and ordered a different brand. 1Works great for my A77! As others have stated, this unit works great, you just have to learn to translate the instructions into something that works for your model.First, peel off the plastic (or leave it on if you prefer) on the front and back of the unit. Then, the battery compartment (located on the bottom of the unit) has a little tab on it that needs to be pushed (with a fingernail or the like) towards the center of the remote. Take the battery holder and battery out and remove the plastic tab if necessary (mine just fell out as soon as I removed the battery tray). Insert the battery tray back in (don't force it--if you are having trouble getting it back in you are probably putting it in backwards--the bottom textured (-) side of the battery will face the front of the remote, (+) will face the back of the remote). The battery only fits one way in the tray, so you shouldn't have issues with that.For the a-series (if they work like my a77) you need to go to the drive menu button (on the a77 it is at the top left of the lcd screen) and push it, then use the multi-selector (joystick) to scroll down until you see an icon that looks much like the remote with "waves" coming off the front of it. Push in the multi-selector button to choose the remote mode.You should now be able to fire the camera's shutter from the remote. Since the sensor is on the front of the camera, it will need to be in front of the camera for it to fire (I tried to fire it from behind the camera, to no avail).The range is good, I tested it out to 30 feet with no problems.Another thing to note is pressing the shutter button will still work, no need to toggle between modes unless you need a specific drive mode.All in all, this is great minimalist wireless remote, and while it looks flimsy and most likely won't survive a big fall, it is a fraction of the cost of the Sony remote commander, and can be replaced pretty easily. 5Works great with Sony Alpha A65! Excellent value and nice and simple. Yes, the instruction sheet is sparse, no info on how to change the battery, but at this price it might be cheaper to buy extra remotes for back up than to buy more batteries (and I am going to buy at least one extra, it's quite small and I can see myself losing it). I wasn't sure what 'quick response' mode was either, it's just 'remote control' drive mode. Autofocus seems to work great also. Much better alternative for shots where you need to be on the other side of the tripod. As per range, I got it to work from one end of my house to the other (approx 30 ft), works from front, from front to the left till about the 10 o'clock position (sensor is on the far right), and to the right side almost parallel with the sensor, but not from behind. I've read that being in remote mode can wear your battery down, so for things like fireworks I'd recommend the NEEWER RM-S1AM Timer Remote Shutter Release, it has a short cord (about 2 1/2') and is excellent for bulb mode, it has an optional audible timer that counts down the exposure and the release button on the remote can also be locked for long exposures (and it has some extras like a lit display and a programmable timer up to almost 100 hours). The Opteka remote will work in bulb mode, it requires pressing it once to open the shutter and again to close it. 5Sony NEX-5N - it just works! Simple to use & inexpensive I purchased this remote control for Sony NEX-5N camera. It is sized 3.25" long x 1.25" wide x 0.25" thick (I am attaching a photo with a pen and penny next to it for size reference). Its weight is 0.5 oz.It has two options: one for instant shutter release and one for a two a two second delay. Each action corresponds to two buttons on the top labeled "s" and "2s". It is brilliant in its simplicity. It comes with an instruction sheet but I did not need it.OPERATION1. The first time you use it you need to remove the plastic separator from the battery compartment2. Then you need to put the camera in to remote control drive mode. This is accomplished with two clicks. Using the round navigation wheel on the camera clicked left (it is labeled with timer icon). Then turn the wheel up one notch from single frame to remote control drive mode. Remote control functions in Intelligent, O, A, S and M modes. Unfortunately it does not function in anti-motion blur mode which has become my favorite (this is a camera limitation, not the remote control limitation).Other details1. I like its size, well labeled buttons, it is light, easy to use, inexpensive and it works!I'm very pleased with this purchase!Ali Julia review 5begging to be lost Once upon a time I had a camera that had a nice little remote that attached to the neck strap and I never lost it, but I guess those days are gone and I'm left trying to figure out where to store this thing so it doesn't get lost.Once glitch I noticed with the NEX 5r is that with the viewer screen flipped all the way around, like when you are doing a self portrait, the remote does not work. I tested the remote on two different NEX 5r cameras and got the same results both times. I'm hoping its just a software glitch in the camera that Sony will come out with a patch for in the near future.Besides the camera glitch, the remote works well. I was able to fire it from the opposite side of my apartment about 50 feet away without any problems, though I haven't used it outside yet.The two second delay is also a nice feature that gives you just enough time to put your hand down before the shutter fires.Still, where do I put this thing? there is no way to attach it to anything. 4This worked perfectly with my Sony A55. If you're looking for a great remote for your camera, don't think twice. This is the one and it's at a fraction of the price of the Sony version so if you lose it you won't flip out.Function: The remote comes with 2 buttons. The top one is for shooting instantly. I found myself using this when I was doing low light shots and I wanted to minimize camera shake created by hitting the trigger on the camera. The bottom button is a trigger button with a 2 second delay. Obviously you could go into your shutter controls and set this up but with the 2 second option on the remote your camera will automatically recognize that you want a 2 second delay before the shutter activates. This is great when you're taking photographs and you're in the shot.Signal Strength: The IR signal on this is bright enough to work in direct sunlight on a summer day. It is also strong enough to work with a fiber optic cable to remotely activate the trigger when the remote doesn't have line of sight.Battery Life: I purchased 2 of these and 1 of them was misplaced. I eventually found it under a pile of toys in my kid's toy bin (I wonder who put it there?). I'm guessing the remote had been activated for quite some time under the crush of toys because the battery was dead on it. In comparison the other remote which I use quite a few times a month had plenty of battery power and to this day is still going on the original battery. The battery in the remote is a standard watch battery that's easy to find at any store.TIP: You can find out if your remote is working using a cell phone camera. Open the app and aim the IR transmitter end at your cell phone so you can see it in the shot. If it's working you'll see a white/blue light shining out of the transmitter through the cell phone camera. 5Distance seems good, around 30 feet I own a Sony NEX-5R and this worked with it right out of the envelope Amazon sent it in. Both the regular shutter and 2 second delay worked as expected.IMPORTANT NOTE for those who may be affected by this: If your camera (like my NEX-5R) has the flip-up LCD for self-portrait mode **by default** your camera's settings may have the self-portrait self-timer ENABLED. I found that the remote wouldn't work in self-portrait mode until I went into the setup options of the camera and disabled it. Again, it's called "Self-portrait Self-timer" in the Setup options for me. Your menu and options may differ slightly based on camera model or firmware. Once I turned off that self-timer then I could use the remote. 5Cheap, no-nonsense remote control for your camera This is a simple, cheap and reliable remote control. I use this with a Sony NEX-5R, and it works great. As you can see, it has only two buttons, one to take a photo immediately, and one to take a photo after 2 seconds.Since those are all the buttons it has, you'll have to adjust settings on the camera itself, like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.You can't use this remote control with any of the other drive modes such as exposure bracketing, a 10-second timer, continuous, etc, but that's a limitation of the camera, not the remote control.You should be aware of where the infrared sensor on your camera is. On the NEX-5R, it's on the front (useful for selfies). You can't use this from behind, on this camera.Finally, this remote control is tiny, so it takes up almost no space in your pocket, which matters when you have many other things already in your pocket when you're outside.As I said, this is a cheap, no-nonsense remote control, and it works reliably. 5Tiny and hard working I've been using it to digitize notebooks, so I've already taken over a thousand exposures with it. It's still working well, on the original battery. It's also small enough to add no noticeable bulk to the camera bag, so I have it handy for group photos. An excellent addition to my kit.The configuration is hard to find in the manual (searching the .pdf file for "remote" doesn't help), and you don't want to be hunting through menus after gathering a group for a photo. I made a small label like this and taped it to the back of the remote: Sony A6000 settings: MENU -> toolbox -> 3 -> Remote Ctrl "On" 55n compatible remote I bought this remote for my Sony Nex 5n. It feels cheap and it is cheap but it works great. I don't know why people are complaining about the instructions, mine didnt even have any. It is very easy and self explanatory. It has two buttons one marked with an S and one with a 2s on it. Hmmm shutter and 2 second delay maybe? Why would they even attempt to make instructions when your camera will vary on how you set it to the remote setting? On this Sony it is the remote commander setting in the drive mode.If you want to use this in bulb mode on the Sony 5n set the camera in one of the manual modes, P A S or M and set the shutter all the way down to bulb. If bulb isn't showing up you are in an incompatible mode. The remote works great it seems to be very sensitive to the 5n I can be directly behind the camera and it hasn't missed yet, you would almost think it is a rf remote not a line of sight ir. If you are getting poor results your camera might have a bad placement for the ir sensor or maybe the battries are getting weak in the remote commander. 5
