Customer Reviews

For under $10 this is a fantastic little playerFor under $10 this is a fantastic little player. It came with instructions in rather poor English, but there is really little to learn. It charges by USB - cable is included but no charger - use your own or a computer. I got over 9 hours of play on a full charge. The unit can be played while being charged. I used a set of large headphones - the unit comes with a cheap pair of earbuds which I didn't even try. The volume is very good. Quality of playback is also very good. The built in speaker (mono) is very good and a big plus for versatility. It will play music from both a micro SD card and a USB key! When I used a card with music in folders, the unit would NOT recognize the folders after turning off and back on. If music is not in folders, it will resume from the point at which it was last turned off. I did not try the line in feature. It is so small it can be carried in a small pocket. It has no clip, so a pocket is necessary. It has a digital display, but it will only display the various modes (clock, card, radio), and the elapsed time while playing music tracks. It has an FM radio and antenna which is actually quite good. The display will show the station frequency. All in all, for the price, it is an very good buy as long as you don't use music in folders!4One StarThe instructions are terrible! The FM reception is not good. Changing stations is difficult, as you must scan through the FM spectrum to detect available "channels" first, instead of tuning directly to the desired FM frequency, then you're limited to that set of detected available frequencies. Manual tuning is not available on this device. It's nice that it has separate line-in and line-out 3.5mm ports, which isn't a typical feature on devices of this size. The flashing LED lights default to "on" every time you turn the device on, so if you don't want blinking lights, then too bad, you have to turn them off every time you turn the device on. It also doesn't remember which mode it was in the last time it was on, so you have to switch to your desired mode unless the default is the one you want. At least it remembers which FM station I was last tuned to.1Slick Little Radio / Music PlayerSlick little inexpensive mp3 player . . . . . For the price ($12.50 +$0.99 shipping on amazon.com) it is definitely five stars. It comes with a small user guide which is a sloppy translation to English, but it's concise and understandable. As for the sound, there is some harmonic distortion but not enough to be tiresome and not more than one would expect from a device that costs around thirteen dollars. The distortion can be reduced by setting the volume down and placing the player closer to your ear. It works fine for me when carried in my pocket while working around the house or in the yard. I charged the battery by plugging it into my PC usb port using the cable provided. Then I put all of the mp3 songs that I wanted to play in the root folder on a SanDisk Cruzer Fit from which I had I removed all of the factory delivered programs and folders upon reformatting to FAT32/4096, plugged the Cruzer Fit into the usb port on the player, turned the player on, set the clock, pressed the menu button 'til it came to the USB, and it began to play. The only thing that I don't like is the LED set which flashes inside the transparent case while it is playing, but since I keep it in my pocket while it's playing, that's not a great issue. Perhaps the LED can be turned off - I haven't read all of the user guide yet.Update 11/8/2013: Prompted by a comment from another purchaser indicating that the device would not play mp3 files via an SD card, I purchased a SanDisk 4 GB micro SD, reformatted it to FAT32/4096, copied my mp3 files to the card, inserted in the slot on the TOMTOP, turned the device on and it began playing the songs from the micro SD card. I am not sure why his would not play. Perhaps the factory set format was not compatible or the capacity was to great or there was an extra folder or partition on the card. With regard to turning off the flashing LED, I learned from reading another review that holding down the menu button for several seconds would accomplish that. I tried it and it worked.5Won't chargeI like these players very much. I have ordered over sixty of these over the last four or five years. I play and record music and I give that music to friends. I mostly give CDs but I have also given many on USBs along with one of these players. I keep several charged for my own use. I have not had any problems with the many I have ordered and I usually charge the ones I give away. Then I put on one of my music USBs to make sure they are working. So I know how to do this.Recently I ordered two of these players and neither of them would charge. I returned those and asked for replacements. Those arrived today. Neither of those would charge and they are one the way back to Amazon. I did not ask for replacements. Having these players is important to me and I will try another vendor. It is not the vendor's fault that these won't charge but maybe another source might get me some that will work.I enjoy these for their portability. Those that work get five stars. The people I give them to are amazed at the great sound from such a small device. Of the four functions on the device I use only the player, and the line-in to play from another source.I did order 3 of these from another vendor. They are red as shown n the listings. Charging troubles continue. Of the three, one did charge, and I am listening to my music on it now. Sounds great as usual. Two are being returned for replacements.2One Clear FM Station out of Twenty and a Stunningly Primitive Collection of Features I bought this device based primarily on the glowing reviews on Amazon. Now that I have personally owned and used this device, I cannot imagine anyone finding a use for this product that would warrant more than three stars. This product is so remarkably inferior in contrast to its Amazon reviews it actually made me begin to question the veracity and value of the entire review system. Here s what I found out on my own. You be the judge. Here are the specific shortcomings of this device.1) FM RadioWith the battery fully charged and the antenna fully extended, the radio was able to clearly receive only one of the twenty strongest radio signals in my area. There was one clear station, and the others were mostly static. Even my worst radios perform at least twenty times better than this.2) MP3 PlayerThis device s MP3 player is the worst MP3 player I have seen on any device since the earliest days of MP3 players. All it does is play the available MP3s. There is only play, pause, forward, and back. There is no rewind, fast-forward, etc. There are no menus, folders, track information, shuffle, playlists, etc.3) LightsThe speaker has lights that can be turned only on or off. They flash random colors to no particular beat. There is no way to control the color or the tempo of the lights.4) Line Out SoundWhen patched through to a stereo, the sound is flat and dull. Imagine adjusting a stereo s equalizer to eliminate 80% of the bass and treble, and you will know what sound to expect.5) ManualThe manual is tiny, poorly translated, and confusing. Here are the specific strengths of the device.1) SpeakerThe speaker is the best feature. It is surprisingly loud and clear for its size. The speaker can project sound at least 50 feet outdoors.2) MicroSD and USB PortsIt is very convenient to have both MicroSD and USB (thumbdrive) ports on an MP3 player. It is nice to have them on this one.3) SizeThe device is compact and light. It is very portable and will fit almost anywhere. The Final VerdictThe concept of this device is fantastic. If it had many, many more features, it could be highly useful. Unfortunately, this device is so poor in features that it is not useful for much of anything. Someone might use it to play a small number of MP3s in a predetermined order while sitting by the pool, working on a car, etc, but many devices can do that and a lot more. There is also a concern of quality. Any company that would release an item of this nature with so few features is likely to cut corners elsewhere, like the rechargeable battery. I could not find enough practical uses for this device to make it worth keeping. I also lost faith in the quality. The fact the device could receive only one clear FM station in a major radio market was the clincher. There is just no point in buying this device at any price. 2BUZZ BUZZ BUZZZ It flashes colors -- every single time you turn it on. Easy enough to turn off, but man... Beyond that annoyance is the huge fact that the sound stinks. It picks up static even with every single thing plugged in that you can plug in, there is a buzz to this thing that is like nails on chalkboard. Not for anyone who really wants to listen to anything without a crazy mechanical buzz. 1Hold in Menu Button to turn off Flashing Light.Everything works ok and here are some tips for best results. Hold in the MENU button until the light shuts off.Plug your earbuds into the FM/Line in jack to improve the FM reception.Plug in both the micro sd card and mini usb drive at the same to provide two choices for mp3 audio material. The unit also acts as an external speaker. It will not FAST FORWARD or REWIND, only NEXT.The sound is very good for such an inexpensive unit.Tip: Seal it inside a ziploc freezer bag and play it in the shower.5Satisfaction depends on what you need this radio for.....I bought this because I do pet sitting/dog boarding services and wanted a simple radio to play music for the dogs during the day while I am away at work. More than anything, I just wanted something that would help drown out other noises from outside so their that barking is kept to a minimum. That being said, this little radio is perfect. It does the job and was inexpensive. However, if I was using it for myself, I would probably return it. The menu is kind of confusing and I don't like that I can't select the exact radio station I want. Instead, it just scans and picks up whatever it can. The multiple lights are also not necessary and I always turn them off. Also, the connector cord that comes with it is like a foot long, so I have to connect it to a extension cord in order to reach most of my outlets.3Great, with limitationsUPDATE to earlier reviews:I am updating my earlier reviews from 2- and 3-star to 4-star. I ended up ordering a second one of these (they are so inexpensive) and I am much happier with it now. It still does not seem to hold much of a charge, but I use it with an auxiliary power supply most of the time. It has great volume, as others have mentioned. I use it to listen to podcasts on my commute to work and it works great for that. Given the price and the compact size, I recommend this product (as long as you have a power source).4FUN LITTLE SURPRISING speaker!!!I love this little thing, with TONS of sound for the price and size. My 12 year old daughter got one for Christmas, after I saw and heard what hers could do, I ordered 4 more, in different colors for each person in the house. The great thing about these little things are you can plug them in to a wall for power or charge them and carry them around. I also purchased memory cards for each. Loaded music, radio mystery stories and books on them. So NOW, when I am working in the yard I can listen and as I move on to the side of the house which has no elec, no problem. My husband uses his in the garage working on the cars, the kids will use them as mp3 players in their pockets, but when they get around their friends, they just pulled their earphones out and everyone can listen. Then their friends are shocked at the level of sound. The lights are pretty nice also. A lot of BANG for under $15 dollars. Depending on the color you purchase, dictates the price. I have the green, silver, black, red and pink.I have been contacted a number of times on how to attach the waistlet. So I have added pictures on how to add the waistlet, I hope this helps? IF not, contact me and I will see what I can do.5Odd to get excited about this, but,You know, we say we love it a lot of times, but, this little radio is really fantastic. The controls are a bit cryptic, and the clock format is the 24-hour variety, but, the radio scans the air and creates all the channels numerically. It found 18 one time, it found 30 another time, and now, every day this week, it finds 29. So, I don't know what the limit is, but, it rocks. The looks are interesting, the light flashing to the music can be interesting at night, too. Yeah, pretty neat. Good thing to have around in a drawer somewhere, or to use in a bathroom. Don't have music on a USB stick anymore. The trend there is to Spotify but, hey, over-the-air TV and radio are FREE! so for $10.02 and FREE we've got all this music :) I love it!5MP3 quit working on both unitsI bought 2 of these units about 6 months ago. They worked great at first, but now both will not recognize the s/d cards.Used different card that works on pc but not this player.1ok player but get newer model for a few bucks more it's an ok player but very limited. only plays mp3s on root. no shuffle and no directory play. radio does not pick up any stations at all.look for the TT-029 model and get that too.this would be okay for a kid to use. 1
