Customer Reviews

Excellent switch for the price This is a great switch. I've purchased many, many Netgear switches for small businesses and homes over the years. Bought this switch to replace and 8 port and a 4 port...cleaner installation and wiring. Have never had a failure. I find the negative reviews here to be curious -- wonder if they're using cheap patch cables -- I don't scrimp when it comes to cables. Or plastic switch models. I only buy metal. These switches simply work. Period. And the LED displays tell you clearly the connection speed per port. Highly recommended. 5Netgear Support is TERRIBLE After 90 days, NETGEAR will not provide phone support. But your product warranty covers one year. However, if you have defective hardware beyond the 90 day window (as has happened to me), then you will effectively be unable to RMA the device without purchasing extended support. This network switch was purchased to manage my home network, and after 5 months, it has stopped functioning. The lights still work but the device itself does not, and the support tech told me "the hardware warranty only covers the physical appearance" of the device.I would avoid this product and brand. The product did not last and the "support" was an exercise in frustration. As the head of an IT group, I will not be investing company dollars into faulty hardware and run-around customer service. There are other brands out there and I suggest you look elsewhere. 1SUPPORT IS A JOKE....DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME....ZERO STARS!!!! WORST SUPPORT EVER!!! I have used NetGear product for years...and it has been a solid product. Not this time! This switch was DOA out of the box! Frustrated..but things happen. So I go online for support...create an account...and log my unit to get an RMA for return. I actually received the unit over 30 days ago but had not attempted to install it...so i could not send back to Amazon...my own fault. I received the confirmation email for my RMA request...all was good right? NOPE! The next day I open the RMA email to box up my unit and return it...only to find that the 'RMA number' line was BLANK! So much for a tech savvy company! I have now been on hold for over an hour. I called the support #...sat on hold for 20+ minutes and was then politely told that my call was routed wrong. Sat on hold for another 20+ minutes...went through all of the confirmation crap again...only to find out that I was talking to the 'WRONG DEPARTMENT' and it was out of her 'SCOPE'!!! I pleaded with her that all I needed was the RMA #...again...out of her 'SCOPE'. SO....I AM NOW ON HOLD FOR OVER ANOTHER 20 MINUTES...AND NOTHING. ALL OF THIS TO JUST GET MY RMA # THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN MY EMAIL TO START WITH. SHE JUST PICKED UP...AFTER 20 MINUTES...HAVING TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES TRANSFERRING MY CALL TO THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT...AND SHE PROMISES TO CALL ME BACK. HEY NETGEAR...NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!UPDATE: ANOTHER HOUR ON HOLD and NOTHING! Where are you NETGEAR? 1Plug n Play Unmanaged Gigabit Switch, perfect for home and business use! Long story, short; If you need a plug and play Gigabit switch for your home or business this is the best bang for buck. I upgraded my FiOS to 1Gb Speed and my router has 1Gb ports and 5gHz but my various unmanaged switches I have were TP-Link, Plastic & maxed out at 100Mbps so I needed a Gigabit unmanaged switch to achieve a plug-and-play upgrade for my LAN devices to take advantage of the new speeds. I have multiple unmanaged switches but I wanted to test this netgear before committing to purchase more. From my Gigabit router the available output ports are point to point connections to various rooms in the house. On the living room connection I had a 100Mbps switch that a smart TV, PS4 Pro, XB1X, Surface Dock, Onkyo AVR connected to. I measured 5. speeds before and after the upgrade; Speed of current config, XB1X 80Mbps DL_UL Max in various built in test and Browser speed tests. Speed of 5Ghz Wifi, XB1X Achieved 300Mbps+ DL/UL in various browser tests and the built in test. Speed of 2.4Hhz Wifi, XB1X Achieved 100Mbps+ DL/UL Speed with Network Jack plugged straight into Wall jack, XB1X Achieved 600Mbps+ DL/UL Speed with Netgear Gigabit Switch, XB1X Achieved 600Mbps+ DL/UL Results are exactly what I'm looking for with the upgraded switch and it requires an availanlr AC outlet for power but if you're upgrading your likely already using one it can plug into. The chassis is metal and feels like quality and the higher running temps under full load will take advantage of the vented metal's heat dissipation vs just my older plastic unvented switch. There is no fan so it's silent and I'm keeping in a ventilated spot behind my entertainment center and it has keyhole mounting slots if you need. My only Con would be the inability to turn off the LEDs. It doesn't bother me since it's hidden, the light color and solid/blinking serve a function but, if it was placed out in the open I would have to tape them off as they are very visible and that's not good in a home theater environment. 5TERRIBLE customer service. Terrible. 0 stars. Bought this switch to replace an aging 24 port 10/100 3Com switch I've had for more than ten years. It still works flawlessly, but I need a faster switch now.Upon installation, I moved all connections from the old switch to this Netgear. No Internet. Activity lights showed traffic, but DHCP from my router wouldn't hand out an IP address through this switch.I moved all the connections back to the 3Com, and everything worked fine again. I moved connections back to the Netgear one at a time, and it worked until I had connected 5 devices and then it would stop passing traffic.I tried different combinations to see if one particular device / circuit was the culprit, but I could not get consistent results. Besides - everything worked together all at the same time on the 3Com. Interestingly, if I loaded up only the odd-numbered ports on the Netgear, it would work fine for everything connected. Put everything on even numbered ports only, and no traffic after adding 3 or 4 devices.I called Netgear support to see if there was anything I could do to fix the problem, and I was on the phone from 2:12 pm until 4:30 pm, and ended up talking to 5 (five) reps who kept forwarding me to another rep because they each said that they were not in the right department to support this switch. I know spending over two hours to get to the right department for support for an unmanaged switch is ludicrous, but I wanted to see how far the Netgear rabbit hole would go before I was connected to a technician who knew anything at all.I finally got connected to someone who was in the right department, but after some troubleshooting (which I had already done myself prior to calling) it was determined that the switch was faulty.I packed up the Netgear switch, returned it, and purchased a Cisco instead. That switch works perfectly.Based on this customer service experience, I will never, ever buy another piece of Netgear equipment. Plus, after 90 days they want you to start PAYING for their time? Cisco provides a full year of complimentary tech support, not that you should need it for an unmanaged switch, but they are pros, and have provided excellent customer service any time I've ever needed it in the last twenty years.Do yourself a favor and do some web searching to find yourself a good switch from a manufacturer that actually provides good customer service if and when it's needed.Netgear has lost my business forever. Pity, since some of their gear is actually pretty good (when it works). Too bad a single faulty device ruined it. A bad device I can tolerate - nothing is perfect. But once I found out how inept Netgear's customer service is, I just can't continue to buy their equipment or recommend them to anyone. 1... a new switch with gigabit speed I would highly recommend this product If you are looking to either upgrade an existing switch or purchase a new switch with gigabit speed I would highly recommend this product. Recently my internet speed jumped from 40Mbps to 120Mbps, I had been using a Netgear FS524 which has a max speed of 100Mbps. With my new switch I can take full advantage of my speed upgrade and my network traffic has seen an improvement as well.My new Netgear Gigabit switch not only provides me with additional speed but the fan-less design is a significant improvement over the older fan based models because of the noise reduction. The changeover from my old switch to the new Gigabit switch was extremely simple and the new Gigabit switch also has a smaller footprint. This product is a slam dunk with a good design and performance which meets expectation, again I would highly recommend.Pros:- Status LEDs are easy to read- Plug and play- Fanless design is quietCons:- Non that I have found 5Very good investment for a growing wired connection No fuss just plug it in give it some network and your off with no worries of running out of ports. Very good investment for a growing wired connection. I was getting tired of computers losing WiFi and non-wifi devices taking up all my ports. TV, Chromecast ultra, home security, several desktop fill a 4 Port WiFi router fast. I put this on and removed everything from my Asus and now everything is working great.Update - Out of the blue it's turned off and won't turn back on, 6 months after purchase. 1This switch dies after a few months Had this product for 10 months, it stopped passing data even when the lights were blinking. No support from Netgear and they wanted me to pay more for a check up than a new switch costs. Last piece of Netgear I will ever buy. 1Defective - Terrible Customer Service I wanted a 24 port switch for my SOHO application. I have had good luck with Netgear in the past, so this was a logical choice for me. Unfortunately, that was a decision that I now regret. After about 45-60 days of use, I had network trouble. At the time I first troubleshooted the problem, I didn't consider the switch as the issue; however, after some time looking into it it became evident that it was the switch. As you can see from the image, ports 11 and 12 indicate the ports are active even though nothing is connected to it.Once I determined the cause of the issue, I called Netgear. While they said they would provide a replacement unit, they stated that I must first ship the unit back at MY expense. Even Nancy (Netgear Support Team Lead), was unwilling to make an exception by covering the shipping costs. If they truly stand behind their products (especially ones that have less than 60 days of use), I would expect that they would be willing to cover all shipping costs. For the record, if it had failed 90 or more days after use, I would be less concerned about the shipping costs. This will be the last Netgear product that I purchase. 1Great 10gig switch for the money. This is for the gs110mx switch. Great switch. I have two computers with 10gig cards and other devices with gigabit nics. I also have a raspberry pi that operates lower. All communicate well on the switch. One caveat though. It appears that the 10gig ports are very fussy. I have 1 amazon basics cat 7 cable, and when that cable is used with the 10gig ports, connection is flawless. For testing, I used a cat5e cable, and a no name cat 6 (that I doubt is actually cat 6) cable in the 10 gig ports and while the devices negociate 10 gig speeds, the connection is very flakey. When those cables are used in the 1 gig ports on the switch, the connection negotiates at 1 gig, but is wonderful and stable. I highly recommend getting good cables for the the 10gig ports. You will want them anyway, but dont even bother with lesser cables in those two ports. 4
