Customer Reviews

A Handy Little Light I love this little light. It arrived quickly and safely in that hard-to-open, hermetically sealed plastic package. The highest setting is bright-bright for light junkies; the low and infa-red are useful for getting up in the nighttime without going blind. The 30-minute auto shut-off is a useful feature, but I can imagine heavy readers finding it startling or annoying. I also use it a lot as a hands-free flashlight. My only real complaint: the cover to the battery compartment somehow fell off too easily, snapping the small plastic nodule that holds it in place. I currently use a rubber band to hold it all together, terrified it's a harbinger to a safety pin holding my eyeglasses together. 4Excellent book light This book light is one of the best things I've ever bought.I can read in bed at night using this as the only light. I can also read books, day or might, where the lighting would otherwise be too dim. While the batteries still have sufficient power, the light output is brighter than it needs to be for reading. Often, I just turn on one side, on low.The red light setting is excellent for times when you wake up in the middle of the night and need some slight illumination without losing your night-adapted vision.A redesign is in order for the door to the battery compartment. It was so tough to open, a tab broke off the first time I changed the batteries. I use cellophane tape to keep it shut. It's not pretty, but it works. All in all, it was money well spent for this reader 5Product received not as advertised We have been using these neck lights for years. It is a very convenient option for my kids to use to read in bed, on road trips, etc. and although they have to be replaced every so often, I have considered it to be worth replacing them because we like the hands-free design so well. (The battery covers tend to break easily and not snap in securely, but we usually just make do by wrapping a rubber band or something around it to keep it closed.) Several months ago, I purchased a neck light for one child and discovered it had the red light option for night reading, which we have really liked. I wanted to buy three more with red lights to replace her siblings' old or broken lights for Christmas. I purchased one initially and it arrived with no problems (see light on left in photo). However, I purchased two more at a separate time and although the Amazon description indicates that it has the red light, the two that arrived were an older version with only the four white beam settings. Disappointed, I returned them. A few days later I noticed that the seller info had changed slightly for the product (and it still listed the red light info on the product description), so I opted to try again and ordered two more. Once again I received the old model hug lights with the four white light settings (see two lights on right in photo). I have returned them but I am very frustrated because I really want two more lights with red light settings as advertised and don't know how to get my hands on them!! 1Disappointing ~ eats batteries! This sounded like a good idea for when I'm reading "real" books at night that require external lighting. I like that it has four settings but didn't expect both lights (left and right) to go off 30 minutes after I started reading. I found that it's best to start with one light, and turn on the other a few minutes later, so you won't be left in the dark. If you read a long while, you will have to be clicking them both on every few minutes, I didn't like that either. Bottom line, I am not using it anymore. It just goes through batteries too quickly. For me, within a few nights of 2 hour reading I've got to replace the batteries again.I also found them awkward to position accurately where I wanted the most light. My package did not include the piece that holds the two ends together, and it also arrived very late. Much longer ETA than I was advised of. There are better options out there. I bought for gifts, and the recipients are split - some love them, and a couple agree with me, the battery life is the main complaint. 2You get what you pay for If you have a larger than normal neck, this probably isn't for you. It's not very comfortable to wear because it's rather tight if you flip it together. If you don't clip it, it'll rotate out of position and before you know it, it'll be pointing off to the side. The battery lid doesn't stay on. Good thing I had some stretchy fabric tape that sticks only to itself to wrap around the battery case. The LED lights are fairy strong on high, but I find it annoying that they turn off automatically withing half an hour.IMO, this was a waste of money. 2This product quit working properly within 3 months of purchase ... This product quit working properly within 3 months of purchase. The switch on one side quit turning off thus running down the battery. Called customer service for Hug light to learn that this was not their product but a knock off. The real hug light uses 3 batteries and this one uses only 2. The Hug light label is on the product and technical information sheet for hug light is included but again this is not a hug light product.Sorry to say but I would not use this vendor again as it was not the product I bought by description. Shame on the vendor. 1Great, great, great! I love this light and wish it had been around decades ago. I love to crochet in bed at night, but my hubby is trying to sleep so I can't have a big light on. I wear this around my neck and aim it right at the yarn and my hands and it's fantastic. I can also use it to read my Kindle (It's an old one - no paper white feature). I even use them in the living room if it's a cloudy day and I need more light. I know these would be great for working on small crafts and for kids to do stuff by at night on long car trips. I can't recommend these enough. Love them! 5Great for reading! I love this light. My living room is not well lit at night and it is hard to read a book. This light is the perfect solution. Each end has a separate on/off button. There are 3 brightness settings and a red light (not sure what that is for). It takes 2 AAA batteries. 5No red light and broken battery cover My friend had one of these and let me borrow it for a trip and I LOVED it. The red light was perfect for reading in the car and hotel room without disturbing anyone else. Since I loved it so much I asked for one for Christmas and was so excited when I got it! However, it was short lived when I went to put batteries in and found that the tab was broken and the door would not stay closed. Thinking that I could just tape it shut it, I put the batteries in and was disappointed once again when there was NO red light. Very sad...if you no longer have that option, please update your posting! 1If just slightly better quality this would be a 4-5 star product (& still recommend as alternative to clip-style) Honestly - I actually really like this reading light - it's perfect for my needs. I really wanted to give it 4 stars - and I still highly recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative to the clip-style reading light. It wraps around your neck & each side is independent of the other with 4 settings - low, medium, high white light & 1 with a red light (which i assume would be for jogging or something). It also has an auto-shutoff feature where it automatically turns off after a certain amount of time (something like 30 min I think). I'm able to read with just one side turned on low or medium (depending on how long a day it's been). The reason I had to give it 3 instead of 4 stars is this:> Quality - the batter case to be specific. I immediately did not like the battery cover. It has a little foam pad that they've put on it (since it rests on the back of your neck) - on mine it's skewed & off centered. I could live with that...but within a week it has completely broken & will no longer stay on. I picked it up last night & took a few steps - wasn't even touching this part of it - the cover just popped off & as it hit the ground the little nub that latches it into place broke off...so now it won't clip on. Thankfully we have an abundant supply of that self-adhering athletic wrap & that worked perfectly to hold it on there since otherwise the batteries would be directly against the back of my neck (& I imagine pretty uncomfortable).>Low Light Output on the Highest Setting when compared to High setting on clip-on reading light. First - let me reiterate - this does provide me with more than enough light to read. I can read using just 1 side on the low or medium setting (in a room that has no lights & blackout curtains). But - when I got this I also bought one of the clip-style ones. When both sides of this are on the highest setting the light output doesn't hold a candle to the high setting of the clip style one (which cost less than this). So if you're looking for significant light - this may not be for you. Honestly - for me - this is actually a good thing - I don't want or need a ton of light when using this in bed since I share my bed with my toddler son & his father - the second I get into bed my son rolls over & is pressed up next to me, anything too bright will disturb him. But since this has so many settings I still think the light output should be comparable to similar products when on the highest setting, and I can't say that it is.Like I said - I would still recommend this to anyone looking for an alternative to the clip style - so long as you don't need a super bright light. The clip-on I have will seriously light up a room - so if you're looking for that kind of light this won't work for you. Otherwise this is a great option for anyone who tends to read paperback books (since clip-ons are such a pain with those!). 3
