beautiful but poor quality I love these little solar lamps...so beautiful. I bought a set of 13 for my deck a year or two ago but sadly they ALL need to be replaced now. All the "paint" on the panels has chipped off and looks terrible! These are outside lamps meant to withstand the elements and they barely lasted a year. That being said, i am actually buying a whole new set and spraying each glass panel with a few layers of weather resistant lacquer. So far, it seems to help but only time will tell. I HIGHLY recommend taking out the panels and spraying them with lacquer before installing, otherwise you'll end up with badly chipped paint about a year later. As far as the functionality goes we did have a couple that stopped working but most still light up just fine with enough sunlight exposure. I will update in a few months to let you know if the lacquer works!UPDATE: It's now been a couple of months. I spayed the glass with an outdoor clear lacquer (3 coates). So far, the paint has not chipped at all, which is HUGE improvement! I will say the color (particularly the blue) has faded but they still look great. Without the lacquer the glass paint chipped almost immediately so I highly recommend spraying the glass before installing. 3Get Ready to Re-Engineer the Installation The pictured application (sitting on top of a post) is clearly not the way this product was intended to be used. The "designer" intended the light to be installed on the included L-bracket because when you disassemble the lamp to secure the bottom plate to a post the unsecured glass panels fall out. The light is designed to be assembled upside down (or in zero gravity). You will have to secure the panels to the frame either with adhesive or tape (along the bottom edge where it can either be removed or isn't visible). You do have to disassemble the light to remove the strip from the battery, so be careful when you remove the four screws, the panels will fall out.Other reviewers indicated that the colors in the plastic "stained glass" fade pretty quickly. That was our experiencer with two of these lights. By the end of the first summer, the colors were almost totally gone. One of the two lights is still going strong and one failed due to manufacturing defects (pinched wires and poor solder connections) in less than a year. 2COMPLETE JUNK !! Ordered 4 of these a few months ago, but didn't get around to install them right away. When we finally did, they worked OK for the first few days, some brighter then the others. However, after only a few days, 3 of them quit working !! We thought maybe the batteries that came with them were old and replaced them with some of our NEW rechargeable batteries, .. same result, they worked for a short time, but only stayed lit for a few hours (even though are in full sun all day long). Now, two months later, I have ONE functional light out of four!!, two don't come on at all, and one shows a very dim flicker when it gets dark, and it lasts less then an hour.COMPLETE JUNK !!!!Tried to return to Amazon but unfortunately the 'return-window' for this item is already closed, I'm afraid I might be stuck with them. The manufacturer warrants them for 1 year, I will give them a call and try my luck with them.Would not recommend these, save your money and get something else !!!If you do buy them, check them out right away and dont make my mistake (waiting too long with installation and missing out on a no-problem return with Amazon). 1Good lights, great look, even illumination....only wished they lasted a little longer throughout the night. Great complimentary piece to any outdoor setting. These fit my posts as expected and when secured with the screws included you wont have to worry about them blowing away. Now as far as light output and durability I've been satisfied. I will say they dont last as long throughout the night as I would have hoped and if I had to guess I would say they stay illuminated for about 4-6 hours once they turn on. They're not as bright as to illuminate a pathway or walkway but will provide enough light to provide boundary limitations. They have a single LED inside the housing and are run by solar rechargeable batteries. I purchased about 16 of these units and out of the 16 only had one go bad one me.4/5 Overall and I've attached photos for comparison, looks, and visuals. 4Great lights; easy to install Need lighting for staircase up to my deck and a way to finish off 4X4 posts. These lights do both with no wires. Some lights are in the shade for part of the day. They still last past midnight. Light enough to see, but depending on your needs, you may want more. Installed 14 lights in about a half hour with a battery opwrated screw driver. 5Now I have Hummers all year! Very decorative post light, which worked right out of the box after I followed the easy to read instructions. Light came with extra screws and a plastic wall attachment, which was a nice surprise. I used the wall attachment on another project as I bought the light for the top of a 4 x 4 post in my back yard. Brightness of the light is very good as a marker light. (Clear glass would really brighten a larger area.) However I bought this as a decorative marker light for some garden steps and the soft light was perfect for showing me those steps. Light stays on through the night or at least until 4:30 in the morning when I last check. Humming bird is on all four sides and each is an all glass panel, not plastic. Only the seasons and time will tell how long the light will last, and the reason for my four star rating. So far I would recommend this product to anyone wishing to buy one or a few. 4After Eight Months Installed There are plenty of reviews about these when they are new so I thought it might be useful to write my review after we had used them for a while. I installed six of these eight months ago. On the bright side (no pun intended), they are all still working. They have however, faided and the bright colors they had when they were new are mostly gone now. ( Please see attached pictures). They are still pretty at night, but don't expect them to keep their color. One of the lights is not staying on very long but fortunately the batteries are replaceable. As for their performance at night, I find that after a sunny day they will stay on all night although they will be very dim in the morning. On cloudy days they still work but don't stay on nearly as long. After an overcast, dreary winter day they hardly work at all. As for durability other than the color they all survived the winter snow, ice, and freezing temperatures and still light up every evening. I hope you find this review helpful. 3Look at the photos. Nuf said I got this light more than a year ago, but decided to post a review now for reasons you can see in the pictures. The light has sat outside in a partially protected spot. Almost all color is gone. What isn't is dull and dingy. The stained glass is not glass, or even colored plastic. It's clear with an applied film. The pictures speak for themselves. 2but I just haven't gotten around to taking it apart and trying to re-solder something better in. Overall These things are outstanding looking. The only problem I have is them being inconsistent, they don't work sometimes even though they have a full charge. It takes me taking the battery cap off and removing and reinserting the batteries for them to work. I purchased 6 of them and they all have the same issue. I am guessing it is something to do with the connection where the battery meets the coils, but I just haven't gotten around to taking it apart and trying to re-solder something better in. Overall, these lights are gorgeous and I enjoy the many compliments on their aesthetics.update 5-1-2015 - The plastic coloring on the lamps has mostly faded from the original beautiful colors. The light seem to infrequently go out for no reason still. I am mostly disappointed by the fact that the color has faded, this was the main point of buying these things!!!Also the mounting plastic bracket has since started to sag and seem of super poor quality. 3I'm almost happy that my old lights got broken and died various ... I'm almost happy that my old lights got broken and died various and sundry deaths. These are gorgeous! I can't wait to get the rest of them and get them all installed. The inserts are real glass, so I ordered an extra just in case of whatever may befall them. The panels are not secured in them, either and they all fell apart when I opened it the first time to pull the tab on the battery. I think before I install them on the posts, I'll caulk them into place so that replacing batteries isn't so precarious. They really are lovely though and totally worth the minor hassle. 5
