I was skeptical about premium certification for HDMI, but this solved my problem. From a technology perspective, all HDMI cables should be the same, aside from build quality, but it seems some may not be built quite to the standards they claim to be. Internally, they're all pretty much exactly the same, so I figured things like "high speed" and "premium certified" were simply marketing gimmicks, similar to Monster cables, or cables with fancy looking designs. However, while there aren't any real differences between the pins and wiring of the different HDMI cables, there does seem to be differences in the build quality that required additional testing for proper certification. Normally this isn't much of an issue for 1080p content, but when you start getting into 4K/HDR territory, it can become an issue, as those higher formats require a LOT more bandwidth to transfer, and if a cable isn't built great, there are things that can limit the bandwidth or introduce interference. Premium Certification claims to test the cables to ensure they can deliver at least 18gbps, as the spec defines. This is perfect for 4K UHD Blu-ray, which I was having a problem with.My old HDMI cable (an AmazonBasics cable) resulted in my UHD Blu-ray player having a blank screen for several minutes sometimes. While eventually it would get a signal and hold that signal, there would still be long gaps when switching signal formats, such as switching from the Menu at 4K60 to the movie at 4K24, or switching to an HDR movie. With this new certified premium cable, the picture displays immediately, with no delay, every single time. It may not look pretty like some cables, but it does exactly what it describes itself to do, and that's exactly what I needed. Monoprice has always been my favorite choice for good cables at reasonable prices, and this is no exception. 5Inspect the connector for symmetry! May cause device damage! The 10 cables work fantastic. This one (15 ) on the other hand ruined one of my hdmi ports! There was a pin slightly off on cable and this caused the issue.One of the pins is now bent back and not repairable without new control board (facepalm).The irony is that this port didn t need hdmi and the cable previously used would have sufficed. But since the price was right I decided to get a whole set and cover me for the future. Since I tout cables through the wallI use all 4 hdmi ports and this one was for my kids Nintendo switch. If you are running a 4K setup, this review is solely for you.If you are running these cables through a 4K receiver to a 4K component past the first few HDMI ports on your receiver (example: your receiver has 7 HDMI ports, you may not be able to use these cables on HDMI ports 4-7) for 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision components. All the cables, including these, claimed to work with 4K UHD content, HDR content, were supposedly certified, were supposedly 18Gbps, and were supposedly HDMI 2.0. That is simply not the case. If you plug them directly into your 4K TV from your 4K component you will probably be okay. If you plug them into the first 2 or 3 ports of your 4K receiver from your 4K component you will probably be okay. If you use them for 1080p you will likely be okay. If you have more than three 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision devices and have to use HDMI port 4 or higher on your receiver, you will likely be out of luck.On the recommendation of the reseller of my receiver, I bought Belkin 4K 48Gbps cables from the Apple Store (yeah, I was thinking the guy was nuts too, but I was desperate). When I got the Belkin cables home and tried them with my devices on every port of my receiver. They DID NOT cut out. I was in shock.In addition, the Apple TV 4K has a "check cable" feature, the Belkin Ultra High Speed 4K HDMI cables have been the ONLY cables to pass that test on every HDMI port on my receiver. Every other cable failed the test no matter what port they were plugged into. This has been a full week of constant testing, trial and error, and contacting support from a reseller for the first time in my life. I have a crawlspace under the house where I'm currently routing my front left, right, and center speakers. I've been looking for a really long copper cable that will do 4K@60Hz with HDR enabled. Also, Deep Color support is required (I'm not settling for less dang it lol).I knew a 25ft cable would be the shortest possible cable that I would need and I cut it very close. I have very little slack on both ends, but it works! I enabled HDR and Deep Color on the TV, and 4K@60Hz 4:2:2 on the Oppo (4:2:0 is supposedly experimental). I also have the option for 4:4:4 but I didn't enable this on the Oppo. I doubt I will see a difference lol.After setting 4K60Hz 4:2:2 for a little while, I set the Oppo back to "Auto". If someone needs me to test 4K60Hz 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 let me know and I'll watch an entire movie. 4:2:0 is a given lol. I'm testing using John Wick 2 and I see no drop outs or sparkles!NOTE: I can't tell you yet the bits per channel (bpc). 4:4:4 will probably be 8pc, while 4:2:0 is 10bpc, and 4:2:2 is probably 12bit.Getting a long HDMI cable that actually works in my setup has been a real hassle. Yes, I could have gone with a Fiber optic HDMI cable, but look at the massive price difference. Always use the cheapest solution that works!Also of note, I also tried a 35 foot Monoprice Lux cable. Didn't work. I was getting sparkles before turning on deep color. Turning on deep color caused a loss of signal.Also of note, the number of interconnects matter. Oh yes does it matter. I would love to use a keystone hdmi connector for a really clean look, but I'm sure that will not work. 5Finally, a working cable for PS4 Pro I had ordered a couple of HDMI 2.0 cables that were 25' long. I wish I had done some more testing before running them through the conduit... they would display correctly between my PS4 Pro and Sony 850D 4K TV, but only at 2K resolution. After a bunch of debugging, I wound up using the factory cable which displays at the highest specs. So I did some additional research and decided that finding something actually "certified" as premium was worth a shot and some of the other reviews mentioned it worked with their PS4 Pro. So even though it wasn't Prime 2 day shipping I pulled the trigger and made the purchase.The cable arrived and the first thing I noticed was how thick it is. My assumption this is due to the length of the cable - but it is about 3-4x larger than the factory PS4 cable, which is pretty thin (but only 6 feet long). However, since I'm running this through the walls it doesn't matter - if it were visible, it would be a bigger eyesore. But if it displayed the correct picture and specs I would still use it regardless. I plugged it in, and validated that it runs at full 4K with RGB, so I am happy. Now I just have to run it through the conduit - which may be tricky with the diameter of the cable.! 5Terrible Cable. Specs are inaccurate. Not 18Gbps The cable is very bad quality. I bought the 10 ft. cable. This is my setup, I have a computer with a Nvidia GTX 1060 outputting to a 4K TV. The model of TV is TCL 43S405. The cable will work at 1080P. When I set resolution to 3840x2160 I get artifacts such as colored dots and lines all over screen. This is at YUV 4:2:0. At 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 I get no picture at all. If I set TV to HDMI 2.0 I get no signal at all, I have to set it at HDMI 1.4 for cable to work. The cable is the problem, not my setup. I have a 5 year old 30 ft. HDMI cable that works with this same setup. That old cable will connect at 3840x2160 with chroma of of 4:2:2 with a perfect picture. That 30 foot cable gives me artifacts if I set it to Chroma 4:4:4 but looks perfect at 4:2:2 or 4:2:0. I also have a 3 year old high speed 6ft HDMI cable that will connect at 4:4:4. However I need a 10 ft. cable. I thought this new so called high quality cable will allow me to connect at YUV 4:4:4. Well I was wrong it won't even give a good picture at 4K at Chroma 4:2:0. When connecting a computer to a 4K TV Chroma 4:4:4 is important if you want the text to be very clear. Also 60Hz is important for games and video to look good. This cable will not go higher than 30Hz at 4K. The cable claims 4K at 60Hz, well that is wrong. The cable looked undamaged. Since it works at 4K 30Hz it may work to hook up a Blu ray player to a 4K TV. So this junky cable will work for some peoples setup. However if you want 4K at 4:4:4 you will need a different cable. The reason I give one star is because cable is rated at YUV 4:4:4 at 4K 60 Hz which is not true. So if your trying to connect a computer to a 4K monitor or TV don't buy this cable. In the past just about any HDMI cable would work for most peoples setup for everything was 1080P. Now that people are using 4K tvs the bandwidth required is much greater. So manufactures now will actually have to start being more honest with their claims. If they claim a cable is 18Gbps and it is not, people will return the cable. In the past HDMI cable manufacturers could claim anything about their cables because everything was 1080P and did not require very much bandwidth. There was no way to prove that the cable specs were inaccurate because at 1080P almost any cable will work. But things are different now, for if you buy a 4K Apple TV and it doesn't have a true 18Gbps cable your device simply will not work when connecting to 4K TV. In a few years when everyone's devices are all 4K, manufactures will be forced to be honest with their cable spec claims. I have recently bought several 10 ft. HDMI cables from different manufactures and none of them would connect at 4:4:4 except for one company. I find it truly amazing that I had to try so many so called 18Gbps HDMI cables before I found one that would connect without giving me a black screen at Chroma 4:4:4. So much of my time was wasted trying to figure out why my computer would not connect to TV properly. Making Cables is a multi billion dollar industry they should be more honest. This is because almost every TV, Blu ray player, Cable box, Receiver, Apple TV, etc. requires a cable. And it is frustrating when you hook up something and it doesn't work. If you hook up a new device and it doesn't work you would just assume the device is defective, and not the HDMI cable. 14k/HDR? Don't skimp on cheap cables, go for these! I have a 4k/HDR Roku Ultra, 2016 Marantz 4k/HDR AVR, and a 4k/HDR Vizio P65 tv. I tried AmazonBasics cables first that claim "up to 18gb capability" but none of those would pass the Roku 4k/HDR test once connected and I could not get a picture above plain 4k. I took a chance and tried these Monoprice certified cables and first shot after hooking them up the Roku test passed and the picture came up full 4k/HDR. I am not one to ever pay extra for "certified" cables, but now I am sold when it comes to these and full 4k/HDR. All other HDMI cables would probably work fine if all you need is 1080p or plain 4k but if you want all the capabilities of a setup like mine, spend the extra few bucks and get the certified cables! Just be aware these cables are thicker and stiffer than the cheaper quality ones which may make it difficult to route around tight corners but to me that was not enough to subtract a star. 5DO NOT BUY does not support HDR via Apple TV 4K When trying to watch HDR content, the screen will flicker or just black out. They are not high speed. Waste of $$. I reached out to customer support but never heard back. Luckily they were cheap, but more often then not you get what you pay for. When i got this yesterday then tested and boom! solved all my issues on the xbox one S. 5Couldn't handle 4K/HDR/4:4:4 I ordered a couple of these cables because I wanted certified cables to run 4K between my devices, receiver and TV.Receiver is a Pioneer Elite VSX-LX101TV is a Samsung 82NU8000Sources include: Xbox One X, Playstation 4 Pro and Nvidia ShieldThe cables failed to transmit signals when devices were set to 4K. 1080p was just fine but no 4K. Swapped out the cables with a different brand and all was well. Not sure if these are actually certified. 1
