Seems to meet specification 4/2019 Monoprice Access Series 12 Gauge AWG CL2 Rated 2 Conductor Speaker Wire/Cable - 250ftI've purchased falsely labeled wire in past so I always do weighing and counting:Entire spool with wire and cardboard spool = 7.14Kg12" length with both conductors and all insulation = 26.7grams so seems reasonable that there is actually 250' on spool.One conductor stripped of all insulation = 8.7gramsNumber of strands in one conductor = 65 strandsMass of 12" or 30cm of bare conductor (65strands) = 8.7grams or 98% of expected 8.888grams which is well within my scale and measuring precisions.Spools is well constructed of heavy cardboard and plastic. 5Clearly marked by the foot on the white covering... At the time of this writing, there are 82 reviews, and I'm not going through them all again, but I did read a lot of them before purchasing.One thing I noted, and I'm not sure if anyone mentioned, but the wire is clearly marked every foot.So when you unravel it, it says 100 feet.And down the line, 99 feet, 98, feet, 97 feet, etc. etc.This can be helpful in some scenarios, and I thought it was helpfulThe roll, purchased at a deal because it was open box, came clearly marked at the 100 foot level, so I didn't see the need to unravel it all to check and see if 100 feet were there.This is a nice touch and something not found on most wire. 5NO LONGER THE SAME QUALITY! I'm on my 4th roll of this cable, and it's always been good, but this latest 100' roll is not the same cable at all. Monoprice has clearly gone for a major cost-savings over quality. Both the outer white sheathing and the insulation on the individual wires is much thinner now. IT feels flimsy and cheaply made. To be fair, I was using it in an application where it was going to be seen, so the new paper-thin sheathing is not acceptable. It makes the individual conductors inside show and makes the cable look ropy, rather than like a nice round cable like it used to. I'm surprised they can still make their CL2 rating. I will have to look elsewhere for my 4-conductor cable needs. 2Great cable! I ordered and received Monoprice cable. Sheathing on the wire says monoprice.I'm not an audiophile but PLEASE don't get taken in by the "High end" cable and wire marketing demons... unless you are Superman or a dog and have Uber hearing, save the $$$ for your electronic where it matters.Used this wire to create my own beefy coax speaker cables to replace the "too short" cables that came with my Vizio 5.1 soundbar /sattelite speaker system (the 54 inch system here on Amazon... great system by the way)I used the monoprice premium RCA plugs also here on Amazon. People say those plugs are too hard to soldier the wires too. Yes, if you don't know how to solder properly this you'll make a mess and blame it on the product. I'm not an expert solderer but I watched a lot of youtube videos and looked at pics. And then I practiced a bit with a decent soldering iron. I made no mistakes and the cables worked perfectly the first time.12 gauge copper speaker wire is perfect for making your own speaker cables. It was slightly too large for what I did with the RCA plugs... but I made it work. 14 or 16 gauge wire woild have fit nicer and probaly sufficuent for this purpose but i wanted 12. Teach yourself how to solder, use a good soldering iron atbthe right temp for your solder wire, tin the tips of the copper speaker wires first (not an optional step) and have at it. Proper solder temp is important for solid strong solder points. And... don't hold the iron too long to the copper wire as you might melt the cabling sheathing . I actually probably held it too long but the sheathing on this monoprice wire held up jist fine. I now have 5.1 surround sound :-) running cables in the attic space? Solder your wires first :-) 5CL2 UL approved 18/4 wire, perfect for my smart home project. This is great wire to work with and it has many uses at my house and shop. I am using most of this purchase (3 rolls-300') to wire the occupancy sensors for my smart lighting. I'm using some for powering the door entry panels in conjunction with some 20/4 shielded wire, cheaper than that really expensive combo wire bundle they sell for 3x's the price. This wire also works well for stereo ceiling speakers although I am using some 14/4 wire that I purchased earlier. This size wire is also good for LED strip lighting and the fact that it is UL approved and CL2 rated keeps me in compliance with current electrical codes for low voltage, in wall applications applications. I will be buying more before I finish my 1909 Craftsman, Smart Home remodel. 5Excellent quality for the price; perfect for mid-to-high-end home theater. Very reasonably priced; the wire is nice and thick and it was very easy to pull. I don't think this could be classified as audiophile grade, but it is perfect for 99% of home theater applications; it's far better than a lot of the other cables I've bought in this price range. 99.9% of people cannot afford audiophile-grade speaker wire for a home theater installation. For my 10x17' home theater with 7.2.4 dolby Atmos, I needed nearly 225'; it's probably better to overestimate than to get stuck without enough and have to order another roll. 5Do not buy if you care about sound quality I installed an 11.2 audio system using this cable and greatly regret doing so. I purchased speaker wire from Belkin once that frayed all over the place when trying to twist the copper strands together tightly. This wire is a quality product. 5Quality, Easy to Install Audio Cable This is the third AV speaker system I've installed in my home over about a 4-year period. The first two were fished through the walls and over ceilings, terminated in boxes inside the walls with jacks and connected with banana plugs. The most recent installation is surface mounted with runs along the casings and up the walls behind draperies for simplicity. In all cases I've used Monoprice cabling. The first system is larger with more wattage, so I used 12 gauge cables. The other two are smaller, so I used 14 gauge cabling with good results. This is twisted solid copper wire, not copper-coated aluminum, which seems to be the case with some lower-priced competing products. I'm very happy with the results in all cases. If there is any issue, it may be that the wire ends have to be tightly twisted when attempting to make a connection with the standard blade clamps present on many AV receivers and speakers. Also, getting the wire connected to banana plugs presents similar minor challenges. None of this is a deal breaker and anyone with rudimentary wiring skills will not encounter serious difficulties. It is recommended that the installer have available a few basic wiring tools, such as a good wire cutter or heavy wire cutting pliers, a quality wire stripper and a tool capable of cutting a moderately bulky cable. In some cases, soldering the connections to banana plugs might be advisable. I've purchased at least 750 feet of this cable or the heavier 12 guage and would purchase again if I decided to install yet another (fourth) AV system. 5
