Customer Reviews

Gorgeous curved double shower rod, PIA installation...OMG, while this is a gorgeous curved double shower rod - you WILL need 2 people to put it up. There are 3 bolts/screws to attach on each end, so bring your patience and use a level to help with the process. This installation was more difficult than it needed to be, because of our placement. One one screw was right next to a stud, making the toggle bolt difficult to place. Recommend you screen for stud location before installing, you want to be on (or off) one - not right up against it. Having said all that, this shower rod is lovely and functional. There is enough space between bars to hang both the curtain and a towel, if you wish. 4Yes, installation is tough, but that's just a one-time eventThe double shower rod is such a great idea that I can t believe I don t see these more often. It took a handyman magazine for me to even realize that this existed, but I am glad that it does. The rod has only been up in my upstairs bathroom for a few months but the chrome finish looks great and so far has been weathering the steamy weather of summer. The double bar means that you can separately hang the curtain and the liner on individual bars; however, I still keep everything on one bar and use the outer bar for hanging up towels, washcloths, or swimsuits that need to air dry. The angle of the curve is comfortable, although my family consists of small people so we were not exactly bumping into the liner and curtain with the standard straight rod.The installation is a bit of a bear. My reason for knocking off one star is not so much the fact that the installation is difficult (because all things being equal, it s a blip of time in the lifespan of this rod) but that they could have made it easier. While they give you templates to cut out of the instructions (ugh, you may end up cutting out actual instructions because they didn t spare a blank page for them), the templates could have included some subtle horizontal lines or even a subtle grid so that not only do you know the spacing of the screws but how to align them with a level or the tile line.TIP #1: Draw your own horizontal lines onto the paper when starting.TIP #2: Be wary of the tile line as your tiles may look level but might not be. Instead, you can compliment this by measuring down from the ceiling for each of the templates.TIP #3: There s not much information in the instructions regarding how to drill into a tile and this was new to me. When you finally have the spots picked out, mark the tile with a dark-colored sharpie. The dark color is important because you will then place masking tape (Scotch tape is no good for this) over the markings and it is this tape that allows the drill bit to grab enough to stay in the same spot for drilling the holes. You may actually need to replace the masking tape once or twice while drilling. And, make sure that your drill is set to the proper drill setting so that you don t crack the tile.Additionally, the minus-one-star-deduction includes some weakness in the internal parts. The telescoping nature of this is brilliant as it allows it to fit many sizes of shower length. However, there are rubber caps in the middle that you put in when you ve achieved the desired length, and the rubber doesn t glide back into the rods easily. I had one go in right away and the other was a bit bent and I had to cut it shorter in order to finally get it to fit. 4Well made and easy to installThis rod's classic lines helped to make it go with anything. My fixtures are another brand and a bit busy, but this one worked well with it's clean lines. This is actually the second one of these I purchased, the first has been in use for a couple years and has really held up well. We added wood to mount it to before we put up the tile backer board so we had something solid to mount it to. A must because I often hang laundry to dry!As an online shopper I rely heavily on reviews left by others when trying to decide what to buy so I try to leave useful reviews for those products that I feel strongly about. Please let me know if you find my review helpful. Thanks so much! 5Moen's DN2141CH Adjustable Double Curved Shower RodFrom an beauty / strength / price point of view... this is the best bang for your buck. Takes 2 people to hang it, but well worth the efforts. The supplied paper templates make getting everything level and drilled correctly very easy. You also need to insure the finish ends are both oriented properly or they wont snap into place. One added note is what I feel is the weak link of this setup; the tube ramp collars for the roller hooks. they do not fit snug and are susceptible to become dislodged from the tube expansion points. I liberally used silicone sealant under these ramp collars to keep them in place in the tubes and to cut down the "loose" feeling of the tubes at this point. Moen should incorporate this installation practice in the instructions. It makes for a far better solidly mounted feeling of the rods. 5Beautiful and functionalI have had this installed for about 8 months now, and it still looks like new. Matches my Delta oil-rubbed bronze fixtures almost exactly, looks beautiful, functions perfectly, and is everything I could have asked for. Installation wasn't too difficult with 2 people (basically, one to hold the rod up while the second person does all the work of attaching it). We made sure to read all the instructions completely before attempting installation, and everything went smoothly. the diagrams were straightforward and easy to use.I have a curtain and liner hanging on the inner rod, and use the outer rod to hang the wet towels on. No rust after 8 months of daily wet towels hanging on it. No scratches from the movement of the rings holding the shower curtains up. Rod is still as straight and sturdy as the day it was installed. I like it so much that I bought the same rod in chrome when we remodeled our second bathroom a few months later (it is also holding up beautifully). 5Horrible Install HardwareGood news, mine came with different hardware. Bad news, it's probably worse than the old version people have complained about. The bolts are tack welded on with 4 microscopic points. I had one break off when i was lightly tapping it into the drywall hole. Even worse was when what was presumably the back end of the hardware popped off as it was tightened. DO NOT USE WHAT EVER THEY GIVE YOU TO INSTALL THIS. Right now I'm mad, and questioning the quality of the actual shower rod... 1*****Updated. Bad*****Updated. 11/11/16. After 5 months of use this thing is rusted. For the amount of money I paid for this thing I'm not happy. I would not recommend this. I also re-reviewed the curtain hangers as well due to rusting. Dropped from 3 stars to 1.Will rust. Already having a few spots show up. 1A great rod. Wall installation required. Need handy-skills but if you can achieve that, this is the one to buy!Elegant well-built (not cheap, flimsy metal) shower rod. And because it is considered heavy-duty, you have to install it by drilling and mounting. This is NOT a suction cup or pressure-tension-screw-tight kind of rod. You will need to measure, drill, and screw. A bid of handy work is required and based on my installation experience, you need to be a 3/5-star level of a handyman to get this done. (medium-skilled). You also need two people to do this task. Part of the installation process requires you to hold while mount. So, be ready.Ok, so. First impression: Good solid construction, good grade metal/chrome and shine. It is designed for a tub that's about 5' long and there's a bit of adjustability. The curve gives 20% larger shower space. The bar comes apart at the middle and it is joined together after mounting to create a single curvature. Each end requires 3 holes drilled into drywall. The kit does NOT come with stud-mounting hardware. The hardware that came with the kit is designed for drywall. It contains anchors and bolts. It comes with a drill template to assist with the task. Very handy. Drill a 1/4" hole and insert the anchor. Pound it in with a hammer. Then drive the bolt/screw through the piece and into the anchor that's in the wall. Simple. The challenge is holding the large piece while mounting. Two people made the job 200x easier. Solo? Well.. eh.. not impossible but very wonky to do by yourself. After mounting you should have a single curve and double-rod. The inner rod you hang shower liner, the outer rod you hang a decorative piece of curtain. Pretty self-explanatory there. Because it's wall-mounted, you can hang your favorite, heavy-duty, wool/cotton, decorative curtain without having the whole thing fall off the wall like a tension-pressure-tighten rod.The biggest challenge, I think, is height measurement. The instruction did not come with any suggestion or support on that. I hope this review will help you out:After researching, you can find commonly sized curtains measuring 72x72 inches. There is the 72x78 inches (harder to find), and the 72x84 inches. Determine which size curtain you want to hang. 72 inch is the standard, 78 inch is the "long", and 84" is the extra long. There's also a 96 inch version but.. Anyway. Say you are hanging the 72" long version. Ok. Take into consideration the drop from the hooks. My curtain hooks drop the curtain 1.5" from the rod. So basically for a 72" curtain you hang this rod at 74" high. This way, after the curtain drops down an inch or so, the bottom will not drag on the floor like an over-long prom dress scraping the mud. I bought the 78" long curtain so I hung my rod at 80" off the ground. Keep in mind the rod itself is 1" diameter thick and every brand of the curtain hook is different. Hang your rod an inch higher if you don't want to mess with the thin narrow margin of the curtain being too long. Where as I knew exactly what I wanted, I have my curtain now at precisely 1/2" off the ground so it's very seamless looking. BUT if I ever change the hooks I might get into trouble! So.Just remember, think twice and measure thrice before you drill. You cannot easily adjust the height or the location of the rod once mounted. I am not saying impossible--but not easily. You have to (most likely) re-do 6 holes and hope the adjustment is small enough that the plate still covers up the 6-bad holes. Otherwise, be ready to patch/caulk and paint. Well heck, if you are a very good dry walls guy and you can patch and paint like no tomorrow, drill away! But if you are not so sure about that---measure 4 times!Hope this has been helpful! Any question, just ask me in the comments section! 5Nice but very hard to installVERY difficult to install. My husband and I spent 3 hours. There is no way this can be installed by one person. Instructions were not very clear either. My husband had to go to hardware store and by additional screws, because those that came with the rod bended during installation. The quality of the rod itself seems to be good though and it looks very nice once installed. 2Very Nice Double Shower Rod -- once installedI am an avid do-it-yourselfer but this item will test your skills to assemble and install. You will need 1 to 2 hours and two people would make it so much easier. I decided to increase the size of the sheetrock anchors to 3/16" (3/8" clearance hole) and lube the threads with grease to make the screwing much easier and more controlled. Layout the holes by removing the ends and use the plastic ends as a more precise template rather than the paper ones in the instructions. You should be aware of correct orientation of the ends and chrome end covers. They must be put on correctly! Holes are tapered and offset. Install the single rear screw in each end first which will allow the unit to pivot into correct alignment and then carefully mark the other two holes. Undo the ends from the wall and put in the remaining anchors and then reaassemble with single holes first. This will allow the unit to pivot and take a lot of grief out of the unit moving around. Make sure that the unit does not get hit by any door swinging inwards to the bathroom if that is your situation. Once installed, it is indeed wonderful. Take your time and think each step thru for mistakes are easy to happen. 5
