Harsh white light, buzzing noises, fake wood Fan might look pretty from a distance but I tried it in a room with normal ceiling height and hated it. First, it made a loud buzzing noise that did NOT go away after 24 hours running it. Second, the light has a harsh white quality almost like the spotlight of a police interrogation. You cannot change the bulb; it is fully sealed inside the unit. Third, the wood on the base and the extending rod look fake and scratch easily. Fourth, the reverse button (to make the blades go in the opposite direction) is actually at the top of the fan and NOT included on the remote control. You have to climb up on a ladder to change the setting. 1Great looking fan, couple install suggestions. Was looking for a replacement kitchen fan, and was looking for something more interesting than the items available at the local big-box home improvement stores. Also needed a light kit that would not hang down terribly low as the ceiling in the space isn't terribly high. Found this bought the silver version, installed it today. Also picked up a wall control (Minka Aire WCS212, 3-Speed Reversing and Up & Down Light Dimming Wall Control), to replace an older wall control from the old fan. At first I thought the unit might hang too low for the space, but it included a shorter rod which worked great. Installed easily enough with the included instructions. Be sure you observe the order of the instructions, as if you don't mount the blades BEFORE hanging it (which I nearly did... ya know... instructions are for amateurs right?) you're in for a shock when you see how they actually mount. Was initially a little put off by the plastic blades when I opened the box, but hung up and installed they look awesome. The included remote works great as an additional control device, but I'd advise the wall control as well for normal use. The unit has no on-device controls so if you were to lose your remote... yeah don't do that. Considering 2 brown ones for the living room now. 5Would recommend So far I have purchased 7 of these. 4 for our house in Hawaii and 3 for our house in CA. I really love Minka fans in general and these are no exceptions.Pros - They are not made of wood, which is a good thing where there is humidity. But they look very much like koa wood and I don't think anyone just looking at them would be able to tell they are not real wood. We have used them in a kitchen, living area, office, and 4 bedrooms. They have a very steel blade pitch so move a lot of air. They come with remotes that can be placed in the wall mount. We purchased the Minka dimmer wall switches as well. I love that the fans are LED, which means we will probably never have to change the bulb. They are also very quiet and energy efficient. The 2 electricians who installed them had no issues. We have them all on 1' downrods which looks nice with 9/10' ceilings. They come with one 3" and one 6" downrod so you need to purchase longer ones separately.Cons - The cons are purely aesthetic. Although I love these fans for small areas, I really don't like them in larger rooms. I think they are too small looking (they still move enough air and provide adequate light) in any room over about 12' x 12'. We ended up purchasing a couple of the larger Artemis 6 blade fans for those areas. 4VERY PLEASED! Beautiful, quiet and powerful! VERY happy with this fan. Installed two! Used short downrod. The LED light is dimmable, and moves smoothly through its levels of brightness, and is quite bright on high. Moves a lot of air and is seriously nearky SILENT on high speed! Ideal for bedrooms. Direction is reversible and I also installed a wall switch that works remotely with the fan for all functions (sold by Minka-Aire separately, but I included a photo in case you're considering it too) I lose remotes, but I won't forget where the wall switch is! Minka-Aire makes very nice quality fans, you'll pay a bit more, but the function and esthetics are worth it. I would absolutely buy this fan again. 5Run 24 hours straight to get rid of hum I wanted to write this review to address the hum that many people are complaining about. The reviews made me question purchasing this fan. Once installed and I turned on, I really started to regret it. Sure enough, there was the hum that people were talking, and it boy was it loud!Well after coming back to read the reviews here, I noticed some people mentioned running the fan for 24 hours to get rid of the hum. I also checked the manual, and sure enough under trouble shooting it mentions running the fan for 24 hours in case of noise. So after leaving the fan running all night for 24 hours, what a difference! The fan is now nearly silent. The only noise I hear is the blades cutting through the air, which for how much air this thing moves, it's pretty silent. So if you find the motor too loud, definitely run it for at least 24 hours straight.I was also presently surprised by the lighting on this. Not only is it super bright, but it gives of a nice warm glow. I wasn't expecting to like the lighting at all, but it's quite nice. 5What a mess! The Minia-Aire Fan failed after one year. I believed I was making a great purchase but found out that I received cheap Chinese knockoffs. I purchased four of these fans. Two of the fans make an annoying clicking sound. As the fans stop functioning, I will replace them with a more reliable American made ceiling fan. 1can't recommend this fan or this brand Now that the fan is almost 3 years old , can't recommend this fan or this brand. The motor sounds worn out and is annoying that a replacement fan from another manufacturer has been installed. This is the 2nd fan from this manufacturer I have had same problem with (See other review). Both fans were professionally installed.I had 4 other fans from (3 Westinghouse and 1 Harbor Breeze) installed at the same time, all get similar use, none have the problem these fans have.I took a chance on Minka because of how they looked, don't make the same mistake. 1Outstanding Value!!! I needed to replace 8 fans that have deteriorated over the years. My criteria was they need to be contemporary, small motor and have LED lighting. I have a bunch of Haiku fans in another location so I am well versed on what a $1000 fan is. While these are definitely not of the quality of the Haiku fans they have a few things in common. They both have very small motors and they are both made of a composite plastic. The big difference is that the Haiku fans use a DC motor and it is virtually silent when on. The Minka is a standard AC fan motor (although very small) that has the typical buzzing sound when in use you would expect with a fan at this price point. This is not an issue for me but may be for others. The build quality on this fan is outstanding, all parts are very well finished and assemble easily. The LED on this fan is bright, very bright and has no trouble illuminating every room I have installed them in. The remote is a typical cheap remote you find in fans at this price but it works very well. The fan installed in about 10 minutes with one person. It is very lightweight and very easy to carry up a ladder alone.Bottom line despite cheap remote, a little buzz from the motor, this fan looks great, has an amazing LED light and installs easily. At this price point there is nothing better in my opinion and for these reasons I give it 5 stars. I am very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend them. 5Does not come with 4.5" down rod. Picture of light cover is not what you get. Otherwise good fan. Nice fan for the price. It is not whisper quiet, but it is more quiet than the super cheap Hunter fans you get at box stores for $100 to $200. The remote works well and I also bought a wall switch that works well. Fan is balanced well. Construction and quality of parts is good, assembly is easy. The LED light is bright and very good. It dims, but not smoothly. The product description states that this comes with a 6" and 4.5" down rod. That is not true and the box has the 4.5" covered with a white sticker. This only comes with a 6" rod. The picture of the light cover is also just some random stock photo and looks nothing like the picture of the light on the fan. It amazes me how a company can sell thousands of fans and still not take a picture. Four stars for misrepresenting the down rod and light cover. 4Great unit, light failed, vendor gave a full refund even though it was out of warranty. We bought this light/fan about 2 years ago. It is beautiful and quiet and worked great until recently. However, the light recently started to flicker to the extent that it almost was flashing. Amazon connected me to the vendor, the Better Living Store. Even though the unit is out of warranty, BLS sent me a new receiver, which they thought would solve the problem, free of charge. However, it did not fix the problem. I asked them to just send me a new light unit. They said they couldn't because the new units are not compatible with the old fans. Instead, they refunded the entire cost of the fan/light. I use the refund to buy a new version of the same unit, which they told me has the new, improved LED light module. When I got the new unit, I checked the light unit. It appears identical to the old one and has the same model number. When I plugged it in, it worked perfectly - no flicker. So my score takes the following factors into account: 1) the light/fan is great in design and worked great for 2 years, 2) the light failed after 2 years, 3) the vendor went out of their way to solve the problem, at the expense of a full refund, 4) the vendor gave me incorrect information about the light. Because I like the fan design so much, and the vendor's heart is in the right place, I am giving it 4 stars. But if your light fails, just get a replacement light unit - 17 Watt LED, Model No. LKL1102-17, Made in China. 4
