Customer Reviews

Looked better than I had anticipated While this kit made the installation of an aftermarket radio very easy, there was a fair amount of difficulty in securing the DIN cage. The clips for my application mounted securely to the kit and are more than enough to secure the whole thing into the dash, but the DIN cage was difficult to secure to the kit. The tabs on the top of the radio's DIN cage were easy to bend into place, but the jewel case pocket prevented the tabs from securing the bottom. I was finally able to create shims to place between the pocket and the cage, which virtually eliminated the looseness in the installation.Overall, the result is a look that is not as obscenely "aftermarket" as other radio installs I have seen. It places the front of the radio even with the surrounding dash panels, and in my opinion makes the aftermarket install blend into the dash better than the factory deck did. My shims bowed the top of the jewel case pocket a little, but it isn't too noticeable. In summary, the kit looks good, and holds my radio very securely, although it took a slight bit of fabrication to make it fit as secure as it does. 4Custom-ish Install? Bought this for a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT. Now, it did not fit perfect at first for some odd reason. It may have not been made for my truck model, but I wanted the extra slot under the unit so I didn't bother to verify the adaptability. It came with a variety of side clips to attach to the square mold, based on your model. I tried the recommended one but it sat way too low, the dash cover was covering part of the unit. So it recommends that, on some applications, if the clips don't work you must use the base that is on the stock head unit. This was a little lengthier, but do-able. Finally got it on and now it would sit level with the dash cover cut out but now it was too deep into the dash, to where there was about a 2cm crack around the whole unit. To fix that I had to account for the difference, pull the clips that much further back and screw it into the Dash Kit adjusted with the difference. In the end, it actually came out looking really good. Better than I expected when running into all the problems. I do not recommend this, at least not for this model truck, if you want a simple and quick install. However, if you are willing to get crafty and deal with a stretched install time to have the extra slot under the unit, by all means go ahead. I personally am glad I was able to get this Dash Kit on. As for build quality, very sturdy and great color. 4Great product I bought this for my 2001 gmc jimmy. It fit perfectly with the clips they provided. One thing to say not ALL radios will fit this so don't get mad cause u buy it and ur radio do t fit..read the specs first. I got a cheep pioneer single din radio and it fit fine, easy install maby 10 min after u take ur dash apart. One thing I did not like is the little cubbyhole tray thing it's super small maby 3/4 in tall and it's smooth so if your going up hill ur phone will slide out but that's not a huge issue for me. Overall it was a great product! 5Could be better, satisfied with result. I was scared it would not fit my car due to the lack of a formal list in the description of cars it will fit. Only that it fits GM cars 82-04 and Isuzu 98-01. Seriously why? Also the instructions could be better. Needed a little creative thought and minor grinding to put it in, but it looks great. Close to a seamless fit in my 99' Pontiac Grand Prix. The pocket is nice, it doesn't hold much. Most of a cd, maybe a small phone or some aux cords. Satisfied for what it is. 499-02 Sierra & Silverado pocket should be at the top of stereo. I installed this on a 2000 GMC Sierra same as a Silverado. The kit was easy to assemble and install. The quality/build is a tad cheap feeling but much better than most! Note: I read one poster with the same truck said he had to drill new holes to work with his dash. This is not needed, for 99-02 Sierra and Silverado simply install the holding clips so that the pocket is at the top and not the bottom and everything should go back together like stock. 4fit very well 2002 tahoe and looks great. I did have to glue the metal sleeve ... fit very well 2002 tahoe and looks great. I did have to glue the metal sleeve where the pocket is because there is no room to bend the tabs but no biggie. The radio looks good with this, almost a factory look. 5Perfect for holding my deck! I installed this in my 1993 Buick Park Avenue, against the recommendation of Amazon. Metra's site suggested it would fit, so I went for it anyway. It fits. The only concern is that some of the hardware provided to hold the brackets was not only fiddly, but also did not inspire any confidence. If my deck was heavy, I would possibly scrutinize it a bit. Also be aware that there is nothing for the stereo locking tabs to grab on to on the bottom cubby hole. The stereo doesn't seem completely locked in.Also, the cubby is about the thickness of a CD Jewel case, an application specified as a selling point in the description. This thickness minimizes functionality. I was hoping for a place to shove my phone (Galaxy S7 Active in Unicorn Beetle Case), however it is not able to accommodate the girth of my phone. It would probably be a great place for the HU remote however, if it's very flat.I have chosen some components poorly on this installation, and will likely be revising some selections, however this kit will not be one of them. It also has holes in the back of the cubby, so it may be a place to run some auxiliary cables. 5Great I used this to install a single den head unit into the one and a half den hole in my 2000 Silverado. I works great with no rattles and looks like it belongs there, not like an adapter at all. 5Metra Cheap Skates. 1985 El Camino or any G body. 1985 El Camino install. It only gets a 3 because you MUST have the ears from the factory radio for this to work. End of story. My car didn't have the factory stereo. What does on a 32 year old car! A trip to the junkyard yielded an early 90's Lumia with a factory stereo. The ears were the same. Metra, it would cost you two cents to include this piece!!!! Stop being such cheap skates. Otherwise, no complaints with the rest of the dash kit. It looks real nice. 3Flimsy and cheap I was not impressed with this dash kit at all. I have been installing my own car stereos for 25 years and this is the cheapest and flimsiest dash faceplate I have ever used. The side mounting tabs are interchangeable, which is a neat idea because it gives you some flexibility, but they are not sturdy at all. One solid piece of plastic with the mounting tabs connected would be much sturdier. The head unit flexes badly and does not want to sit level. This was an attempt to do too much and the basic function is lacking because of it. Keep it simple. But I would recommend buying a different brand of dash mount for your car. 2
