Customer Reviews

OK product but please read on I waited until I had finished with the whole stack to comment here. I used a Panasonic DMR-ES20 home recorder and I lost about a dozen discs to the 'coaster' pile. A few would not even read, but mostly the bad ones would fail to finalize after I spent 2-4 hours of burning. Frustrating indeed. I think the machine itself may have been responsible for a few of the failures. If I used other brands like Sony or Verbatim I would not have the same problem. Also after completing 20-30 discs if I monitored the results I would find places that had audio drop out and video scatter with pixelation problems like color changes and a funny oily looking appearance. As long as Memorex doesn't charge more than $25 I guess I could live with the quality problems. 3Ideal price/performance Best bang for the buck. I use these to backup some my favorite DVD movies and make multiples of my son's favorite DVDs. Thus, you can imagine for all those who have kids - lifesaver! I leave backup copies of his favorite DVDs in each car. These blanks seem to work just fine with all my different DVD players and burners. For example, my older Compaq Desktop burner, 3 yr old Gateway laptop, 6 yr old HP laptop, and HP elite have no issues reading and burning onto them. Reading: my XBox 360, Original Xbox, Insignia DVD/TV combo, Insignia portable DVD player and Pioneer in dash player read them just fine. I think maybe a few times the older xbox sputter a few places here and there but never froze on me. Considering how many Memorex blanks I used and ripped through, those are very low odds. I have been using this media for a while now and this is my 3rd spindle. There is a reason why I couldn't justify the price/performance of Verbatim, the fail read rate of Fuji (greenish hue) and very surprisingly Sony (I think they were too "blue" on the recording face and the more basic or older laser lens seem to have trouble reading those). Memorex is by far the best bang for my buck for my purposes. 4Bad Batch My purchase arrived in a timely manner without any damage; thanks in part to Amazon's packing. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, I was unable to record a backup copy of a DVD with these discs. I have used Memorex and other brands for this purpose in the past and never had any problems so I have to think that the disc spindles were improperly labeled or the discs were not properly formatted. Whatever the cause, I could not use them for anything that I do. 1I've never experienced a bad disk (knock on wood) Since I started burning things to disk, I've used Memorex. The DVD-R has no issues playing back in DVD players or computers. I've never experienced a bad disk (knock on wood). I also like that the DVD write-able side is plain and the logo is nearly translucent and not overwhelming like some brands. One thing I did not like was the new packaging. It's not a spool case anymore, it's literally, a spool with a screw top holding the disks togethre. Good thing I still had my old spool case. 4Best Value for the Buck! Memorex DVD-R are compatible with most standard DVD players. The "+R" has better compression but not quite as compatible with older drives and/or players.Today...this is probably not much of a factor any longer as most drives that are less than 5 years old should be able to play/record to both "-R" and "+R" type DVD discs.16X speed is fast enough and they hold around 4.7 GB of data. The reliability has been superb. In the last several bulk spindle packs I have ordered, maybe one or two became "coasters" with the majority 99.99% burning and working perfectly. When buying in bulk packs like this, I try to stick to brands that are sold by Amazon as well as recognized name brands. Returns if needed are no-hassle, and most times name brand items are more reliable. These discs are a safe bet. 5100% quality to date, no duds for me so far. Received as advertised. I've always used Memorex as I've never had any dud blank DVDs yet. I've tried other cheaper brands and usually have up to 5 dud DVDs out of a bunch of 100. So I'm always willing to spend the extra $5 or so for this brand. The spindle is a nice plus as it had a "lid" that screws on the top so that blank DVDs won't fall off if it were to get knocked over. I will be buying these again when needed. 5Nice colors, Awful Discs with Bad Packaging I recommand you pass on these and buy a pack where the discs are not shipped in contact with eachother. The way that they are packaged allows all of the discs to shift and rub against eachother.I was expecting there to at-least be some sort of protective separator between the discs, but there was not. The bottom side of one disc sits directly on top of the disc under it. As a result only two of my 15 were usable -- the rest were all scratched on the under side. The colors may look nice, but you won't care when you discover they are scratched and unreadable.Just to be sure, I tested these in two seperate drives, a JVC DVD-RW drive, and a Panasonic BD-RW drive, read errors on both.Spend a bit more money and buy the individually housed packs. You'll be glad when your discs are properly protected. 1Just beware that this isn't a plastic case like you're probably used to Just beware that this isn't a plastic case like you're probably used to. It's just a bottom with a center spindle attached, and the top of the center spindle is threaded and the "lid" just screws on to keep the discs from falling off. The shrinking material is straight onto the sides of the discs. This is all fine if you're just refilling an existing case or don't care about not having a case leftover after the discs are gone. 4Terrible, waste of money First, I got my package with the plastic sleeve broken and bottom holder broken, but yet, I still used these DVDs to record TV shows I had TiVo'd. I recorded, finalized the disk, and then, when I went to watch the programs, my DVD players all said, No Disk. Extremely upset, as I found this out AFTER I had deleted these programs from my TiVo. Luckily, I didn't use these to record something like my kid's dance recital or other important event! I thought, being Memorex rather than another brand, these would be trustworthy, but alas, no. I would really like to get a refund for my purchase, as these disks are totally useless to me, and not to mention, the time I spent recording programs that I will never be able to watch again unless they are rerun. 1Memorex... Memorex...what else is there to say. Never had a problem with any of their products in all the decades I have been using everything from tapes to discs.Very sad thing here. As I have worked my way down the stack of DVDs, I am finding cloudy, patchy looking discs that are not burning properly (video and music skips and so on) and a couple of them have been rejected by both burners. The cloudiness and patches are inside the discs somehow and cannot be cleaned or polished off.Only giving a second star because some of them have been fine.In total, 50% of these discs have proven to be defective. Some, simply due to the enormous amounts of everything from blotches, scratches and what looks very much like fingerprints. Absolutely Awful! 03/08/16I will buy from a different vendor next time. 1
