Customer Reviews

High quality made in USA Great pry bar set! I originally had a 4 piece Matco set, then I bought a Mayhew extra long prybar (I forgot the actual length). I have a set of tools I keep at home, and I needed prybars. I needed more prybars with different lengths and bends on them, Matco and snapon are really expensive, and Mayhew is made in USA and the price is very reasonable. So I brought my Matco set home and ordered these. I love them, have never let me down yet, use them almost every day! 5Very solid well made pry bars. I have Snap-On ... Very solid well made pry bars. I have Snap-On and Matco sets that aren t as solid for double the price. 5Dont waste your money on the 58" - a disappointing value I was quite disapointed when I got my hands on this newest pry bar. Sure it is well made - but it is not all I had expected it to be and no supporting info is really available other than incorrect comments from others.I have most of this series. 7 in all from 6" through 42" (Mayhew 40159 42c). I was impressed with the 42" bar and its 3/4" shank. I read someone else with the 58" claim it had a 7/8" shank so I figured it is a worthy addition. It isn't. It is the same 3/4" shank as the $49 42" 40159. I find spending $30 for 16" of additional leverage to be a waste when the shank is no more solid. I dont see it any more capable than the 42 and will likely just order a second one.See my pic above. The bar with the large print is the 58" - or is it. The shank and handle is really no different - just $30 for 16" of steel. 3DONT HESITATE So i have used a couple of tool truck brand pry bars in the past, they belong to my father in law, so they kind of set the standard for me. I was a bit hesitant to buy these at first... Other than the handle feeling different in the hand, i have noticed 0 difference in quality or functionality of this set. I find the 18 inch or so pry bry being next to me almost all of the time when i am under the hood or in a wheel well. They feel good. They work beautifully. They look good. They are priced great. Dont hesitate. They are well worth the money. And USA MADE! 5Finally a beefy and honestly well built bar for a decent price. I thought I had reviewed these already, but I just came across them again and no review. Well I have to fix that because live is too short for bad tools and you have to recognize the good ones. I have an assortment of Harbor Freight pry bars (some broken and some not) some old Craftsman pry bars with chewed up handles from abuse, some really old no name lady slippers, a damn useful but don't use it for serious prying index-able head Gear Wrench bar, and a small blue handled OTC tool pry bar I bought to put in my trailer go bag for pulling the trailing arms off of trailer torsion axles when the "Maintenance Free" hubs let go. I picked up that 8" OTC bar because I needed something that fit in the tool bag and I would trust my health and safety on the side of the road to and I remember them being fairly high quality and they were highly reviewed. Imagine my surprise when the tip of that bar bent easily with just light one handed pressure trying to open up the pinch bolt on the trailing arm, I tried using the striking cap to tap it in with the copper faced hammer I use and the tip mushroomed instead of opening up the arm. I had to resort to using a screwdriver as a wedge to loosen it because the bar I bought couldn't get the job done. After that I went back on the hunt and reconsidered these pry bars and after much debate pulled the trigger rather than spending the money on a Snap on bar. One of the reasons I picked up this set is because if the 8" bar didn't do the job I would just go further up the size scale until I found tone I did. Glad I did, the 8" bar in this set is night and day better than the OTC bar. I am assuming that the OTC bar was defective, made out of some sort of black cheese instead of painted steel, and a calmer head may have tried to exchange it for another one instead of testing its aerodynamics in flight but I definitely don't regret buying the Mayhew Dominators, these pry bars are a pleasure to use and feel great in the hand. The striking caps take a beating without getting all tore up (since they are not painted) and the are designed for the abuse rather than all plastic handles. The tips are all in great shape still and the shafts don't flex like the cheaper bars where you risk causing your self some serious rebound damage when the tip slips, dangerous even if they don't break. I swear they are really worth it, just spend a few bucks on this set and pocket all the difference in cost from the tool truck versions. The OTC bars may have a great review and maybe some people get better quality than mine, but that wasn't my experience and these guys hold up. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive, but made in the USA and darn good quality. 548" prybar - best one I've ever used! As a General Motors automotive technician every once in a while you just need a big a** prybar. This pry bar is incredibly thick and heavy compared to tool truck pry bars like snap on and matco. This is extremely important because a long prybar is useless if it bends easily, because it destroys the leverage on the object you are prying on. Incredibly well made, striker end on the handle, and an amazing value. Snap on has a pry bar this length for 200+ dollars and it bends easily, meaning more of your energy is being wasted. Would buy again in a heartbeat. Has already turned a couple big problems into an easy fix. 5Awesome pry bars probably one of if not the best ... Awesome pry bars probably one of if not the best out there. I couldnt help but say "made in America so you can go ahead and whack it!" in the voice of Hank Hill so bonus points for giving me a chuckle! My only issue was that mine showed a bit of surface rust right away but thats not a very big deal. 4Best deal out there I use these daily in a mechanic shop and they are just as good as the tool truck brands that the other guys have and made in the US at a fraction of the cost. I mostly use these for things like prying stubborn axles out of transmissions or de-pressing clutches to remove belts and they've held up great. I actually like the handles better than the tool truck stuff. The only issue I've had is that the "Dominator" logo started rubbing off almost immediately just from holding it in my hand but this is not a functional issue and these still get 5 stars for the price and quality. 5Great Quality Pry Bar Set you can count on .... Nice caps on handle ends!! Ver nice , Quality made love the caps on the handles to bang on with a hammer ! Great feel , kinda soft & grips are great , you can tell carbon or tool steel isn't going to break , like some of the cheaper pry bars I've seen snap & injure ( quite possible ) I doubt these would break or handles would give out ... Quality bars , put to the test & I like & recommend over cheaper ones. These aren't snap on $ but feel just as good or better & have caps on the handles my snap ons had no caps they were strictly pry , & some stated it... Chipped handles were discretionary as per truck ... I like these better , wish longest was little longer but there fine & will out last me , I'm sure ! 5Can't wait to use it again!!! Used this pry bar yesterday for the first time. Rotating the tires on a MINI Cooper and the wheels were stuck to the hubs. Anyone that has ever tried to rotate their tires on a MINI is well aware of what I'm talking about as this is a very common problem due to 2 different metals causing corrosion. Long story short, I pulled out my Mayhew 60144 12-C Dominator Pry Bar, wedged it in each of the four notches between the wheel and hub, working/prying in each notch and in less than 30 seconds the wheel was off with no damage done to wheel, hub, or pry bar. Did this to the other 3 wheels with the same results. I was cranking pretty hard on the pry bar and witnessed very little flex if any. I'm very happy with this product and would not hesitate to purchase Mayhew Pry Bars in the future. 5
