Customer Reviews

If you're gonna add a reverse camera this is the correct way to do it! I used this camera on my 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 that did not come with a factory reverse camera. The wire is nicely loomed and the installation is straight forward. The only install recommendation I have is to drill your hole in the middle of the bottom of the tail gate, drill a 3/4 hole, fish wire through and use a rubber grommet to keep moisture out. There was even a hole in the body where the wiring would have run through from factory below the tail gate that I utilized and ran the camera harness along the truck's factory harness up to the cab. The picture is crystal clear and the handle bezel, camera, and handle all look OEM. A++++ 5First one was DOA, it's replacement is working like a champ. Now that the unit is working, I really like it. The first one I received the camera was DOA. I spent a few hours making sure I didn't install anything wrong but came to the conclusion it had to be the camera itself. So I bought a second unit (so I didn't have to rip out all the wiring I just installed),. installed the camera, and bingo, I have a back up camera. ! sent back the faulty camera and Amazon gave me my money back within a couple days. I'm happy now. I would still recommend this unit simply because of the price and the camera is decent quality. 3Aesthetically looks great, but picture quality is disappointing I bought this to install on my 2008 Silverado, and the tailgate bezel fits perfectly and looks great. In fact, it looks like an OEM product. I inserted the wires into a split wire loom and ran along the frame up to the cab. Installation isn't for the faint of heart! It took patience and some creativity to fish the video cable into the cab and hook up to my new receiver. I tapped into the right rear reverse light for power. Once installed, I was a little "underwhelmed" at the picture quality. Others had commented about a great clear picture, but unless I got a bad camera, it was merely 'meh'. I can see objects behind the truck, but the quality just wasn't that great. There were wires on the harness that said to cut the white wire to remove parking lines. Since my receiver had adjustable lines, I wanted to remove the lines from the camera. However, when I cut the wire, it did nothing. The lines remained. This was another disappointment. If you look in the picture, you'll see that I just adjusted the receiver's lines to overlay the lines produced in the camera. This was an acceptable workaround, but not optimum, as I cannot further modify the lines to my distance preferences. For the price, this was a great addition to my truck, but I was slightly disappointed in the video quality, and the inability to remove the camera's generated parking lines. 4Fit my 08 GMC Sierra I bought this to add to my new Kenwood Double DIN receiver. The only reason for the 4 stars is the camera clarity and fitment was pretty good. When ordering this make sure if you don't currently have a tailgate lock and don't plan on adding one then make sure you get the one with the "PLUG". This plug is the first issue I have with the product. The generic rubber plug protrudes out of the housing and is not aesthetically pleasing. Second is the wiring harness. The harness is not installer friendly because you have to make a good size hole to pass the RCA plug thru then have to figure out a way to seal it up. I ended up taking apart the plug that goes to the camera so I could minimize the hole thru tailgate and bed. Taking apart the plug without destroying it is a chore. Third thing is there are no good installation tips or instructions with the product, just some wiring instructions which is not hard to figure out anyway. All-in-all I am happy so far with the functionality of the camera. I have good knowledge of installing and wiring custom additions on my truck so if worked out fare. I believe the company could do a little better. Mainly to make a Bezel without a lock cylinder hole. I messed up on my order and had to order this cheap little rubber plug straight from the company for $6. I initially did not see they sell the kit with or without plug on Amazon. 4Great buy! I found this product to be awesome the build quality is equal to that of the factory tailgate bezel. The camera quality is better than my mom's 2014 Buick encore backup camera. I am thoroughly happy with this product 5Decent Value The picture is decent. It's not by any means as good as an oe system from a major manufacturer. I have it ran to a pioneer headunit with hd capability so the camera itself is the limiting factor.Fit and finish of the trim piece is great, but the plug to fill the lock cylinder hole (for those that don't have the locking tailgate) is junk. I'll buy a lock cylinder just to fill the space once the plug falls out.I also wish the cable was one solid wire instead of splitting to two (one for the video input and one for the power/ground). I could have ran it off the remote power at the back of the head unit. I instead ran it to the constant power and ground at the hitch because the power/ground wire is shorter than the video.Lastly, the most annoying thing (and the reason it gets 4 stars) is the "guide lines" they are not centered and show the vehicle headed off to the side. In the picture I posted, the jeep is directly behind the truck, yet the lines point off to the side. If these were not there, I could use the guidelines from my headunit which are adjustable.Overall, it is one of the cheapest OE style backup camera with trim that fits well, but is plagued by a cheap universal style camera with garbage "guidelines" on it. I may get frustrated with the lines enough over time that I pull the camera and swap in a higher quality unit. For 1/3 the price of other kits, I'm satisfied even with the shortcomings. 4The handle part was easy to install considering I had a key lock for ... I bought this along with the back up mirror which came with the compass and temperature display. I installed it to my 2014 Silverado 2500HD CrewCab. I know it says it fits up to 2013 only but luckily I checked my tailgate handle and it was the right fit for it. The handle part was easy to install considering I had a key lock for my tailgate. The hole I drilled with a step bit at the bottom of the tailgate was about an inch. I did not realize that this set DOES NOT come with rubber grommets so I purchased a couple 3/4 inch grommets from Menards/Home Depot which fit nicely. Also you'll need to improvise a 24-30 inch fish stick to go from the drilled hole to the handle. I used 3 8 inch plastic tie wraps and taped them together. Worked like a charm! I also used my driver's side reverse light as power for the camera. With a 2500HD I was kind of worried that the cord wasn't going to be enough but I ended up with a bunch of slack left. 5Seems to be good quality and the instructions are pretty clear but to ... Seems to be good quality and the instructions are pretty clear but to sum it up. Run the black ground to ground, the red camera power cable to the backup wire in one of the tail lights and the video cable to the screen. On some screens, such as the JVC dash mounted dvd/ receiver I have mounted in my dash, require another signal wire to be run (not included) from a reverse wire. This could come from the reverse switch, the reverse lamp fuse or simply from the tail light. Installation of the bezel is simple and straight forward, remove the three bolts inside the tailgate, pop the retaining clips off, switch the lock cylinder (if equipped), run the wire inside the tailgate, plug it in and reverse removal. I also obtained a weather tight grommet to run the wire through the rear of the cab and then proceeded to run the cable under the passenger sill plates into the dash, behind the glove box (easily removed) and to the head unit. 4OEM fit! Love it Why did I wait so long to add a camera?! Makes backing up to the boat and even in parking lots much easier and safer. Nice fitment around the tailgate handle too! My one and only complaint is that the camera isn't aimed to be centered at the hitch. It's not TOO far off, but it's obviously off a little bit. In the end, I can deal with that since I've been driving this truck for 7 years without one lol. Overall, great product. The picture I'm including of the screen image is at night and appears to be black and white, but during the day with good lighting, it's much clearer with better color definition. 5seems to work great now I don't have to get out of my ... I installed this product on my 2010 Duramax, seems to work great now I don't have to get out of my truck 10 times when hooking up our travel trail. The fit was perfect looks like the factory one, had to remove the tail gate which takes a couple minutes and drill a 5/8 hole on the bottom of the tail gate to run the wire through. There's a couple different ways to hook it up some people connect the power wire to there reverse lights, I chose to run mine to a switch in my cab to my edge tuner. Had plenty of video wire to reach my cab but the power and ground wire only came as far as my fuel tank probably because most people hook it up to there reverse lights but it had a fuse built into the power wire which is good. The end of the power and ground wire had a rca type connector on the end of it which gave me some issues so I ended up cutting it off and grounding it just behind my bumper and soldering the power wire so I could extend it to my cab. Once installed it worked great, not high definition quality but still clear enough that I can see everything fine and a fraction of the price of a factory one. 5
