    Recommended. I use it as the secondary lock, a supplement to the electronic lock. The dead bolt goes quite deep into the door frame, making the occasional thief have to work hard and long to break in. A pretty good deterrent if your house and its front entry are visible from the street and/or by watchful neighbors. The installation is uncomplicated, even if you never replaced a lock before. All that is needed is this kit, a screwdriver and unhurried time. If you have even done this a couple of times before, you will need 10 to 15 minutes. It helps to spread the pieces on a flat surface and put them together in a dry run fashion to make sure that nothing is missing from the kit.May you always be safe from thieving psychopaths or the desperately poor. 5Nice features but.... So far these locks are wonderful--if you get one that works! I bought and installed three locks--two had defects with the electronics so had to return them. Learned my lesson and tried them before installation. One of the two that I got didn't work so returned it and got another. Finally I have three, working locks. I am hoping that this doesn't mean they will fail in a short period of time. I would give these locks five stars if I hadn't had to return so many of them. 4So far so good. We've been using this for about a month now and everything seems to be working well. It was installed in a new Jen Weld steel door, I did have to slightly modify the hole that came in the door. I used a dremel to grind a bit of the steel off so the lock would fit without jamming it in. Also the pre drilled hole on the door jam I needed to chisel out a bit more. Overall it took me about 1.5 hours to install the lock with all of the slight modifications I made. Other than the slight installation issues, the lock works great. I looked at the electric locks that move the bolt and ruled them out, I'd rather not have any electronic motors. This is a simple design that has worked great so far.--UPDATE--Almost one year using the lock and we are very happy. Ordering another one right now. 5I've had it a few years and it's great Easily replaced my regular deadbolt. The lock cylinder is indeed bump-proof(I tried). It's hard to find a bump-proof lock for this price, much less a nice digital one. The lock is designed securely with all of the electronics on the inside of the door. It can't be "hotwired". Strong magnets do not appear to affect the solenoid mechanism so it can't be opened that way either. Don't get me wrong - this is still a consumer-grade lock. It's just a little more robust than most.Keypad entry is quick and easy. Has flexible programming and can hold many codes. Great for giving a temporary code to a house-guset and deleting it when they leave.Over the course of 2 years the buttons on the outside were starting to show some wear, and I could easily tell which ones were used for my primary entry code. Changing the code yearly will prevent this. The batteries last me about a year and the unit gives me ample warning that they are failing. 5Built Very Well, Should Last a Long Time. This is a grade 2 commercial device. That means it is built quite a bit better than the residential grade devices you usually get at the local stores.This device installs two different ways, you can either replace an existing lock and install the blank plate on the opposite side of the door to cover the hole. Or, you can simply drill a new hole only deep enough to install this bolt, and have a clean door surface remain on one side.My only two complaints with the product are:1. Mine arrived missing the small piece that allows it to be installed with a clean door surface. This is not a big deal, as I'm sure a replacement lock would come with the needed piece.2. You need to drill a rather large hole to install this device. I don't have the instructions handy, but it is a roughly 2" diameter hole (the same size hole used to install normal deadbolts and latches). I understand why the product was designed this way (to fit existing holes in doors), but it could have been designed to only need the 1" diameter hole in the edge of the door, and two screw holes in the face of the door.Mortice door bolts that do not require a ~2" installation hole appear to be more popular in the UK. My search for the perfect bolt continues, but if you already have a door bored for standard locks, this is a very well made product, it just feels very smooth in its operation. 4Security without carrying keys I purchased this to install on my Pole Barn outbuilding. It is a great unit, easy to use and program, and performs flawlessly. You can even use the included keys if you've forgotten either your personal programmed access codes, or the default programmed codes.It is easy to program, re-program and add codes as needed. The included user manual is fairly straight forward and easy to understand, with illustrations/pictures showing programming steps. You can even delete the factory programmed default codes, and reactivate them just as easily if desired. This feature is perfect, for instance, if you needed to allow a friend or contractor access to your premises on a one or limited time basis, and then after simply remove the code you've created for them to use.After many months of use, the only trouble spots I've noticed are usually related to battery life. If the unit malfunctions in any way, try replacing the batteries first before calling customer support. I can attest to that, as any problem I've had (key pad not illuminating, key pad not activating dead bolt, dead bolt not engaging, dead bolt not disengaging) has been thus far remedies with a fresh set of batteries.Customer support for this product is fantastic as well, as I've learned by calling prior to battery replacement. They are knowledgeable and courteous, and friendly to boot. They will walk you through all steps required to get your unit up and running again, even if all you need are new batteries.I highly recommend this unit through Amazon. 5This isn't a true one-sided lock. Major oversight on the manufacturer's part. The product is missing a latch plate that allows the lock to be installed ONLY on the interior side of the door.Since this piece is missing, you MUST drill a hole through both the interior AND exterior side of the side.The instructions indicate the product comes with this latch plate.I called the manufacturer and they indicated this latch plate part is no longer produced by them and admitted the instructions were out of date.The lock is a great lock, but I'm baffled that such an oversight can be made. It makes the lock less secure this way. 2Super disappointed. key got stuck in the lock the very first time I tried to use it, on the "test run" as described in the instruction. I am mechanically inclined....the instructions are CRAP, and the design of the lock and mechanism has more plastic in it than anything else. Don't be fooled by the name MASTER, because this is NOT what a MASTER lock should be. This is cheap, poorly designed, instructions are poorly written, and overall the product was a terrible waste of my time. Boxed it up and sent it back. Will never buy another MASTER lock of any kind ever again. 1One sided lock not possible This item did not come with the part referred to as a "latch plate" in the instructions. This part allows installation without drilling a hole through both faces. I ordered two, then exchanged them for two more. None had this part.Otherwise, for use in a pre-drilled door this item seems perfect with smooth action.To modify lock to actually work one-sided, I used a reamer to slightly enlarge the through-holes to accept stainless 10-32tpi tee nuts, which i filed slightly to clear the moving parts. Be sure they fit snuggly, or you won't be able to tighten or ever remove the turn screw onto the door. I'll probably use a thread lubricant to help tighten without as much torque on the tee nut. 3Convenient and conventional looking keyless lock I bought this keyless lock after much research, looking for a polished brass lock with both key and keyless options to match existing door hardware. This Master lock works very well and it s keyless feature is unobtrusive and from a distance looks like a normal lock. I like the manual spin control of the lock, which allows for doors that need to be held shut to lock, just as you would do with a key. Programming of codes is clearly explained and the exit button is great for ease of use. Also nice is the lock out feature, where pulling out the interior latch when a button is held in locks out all codes and keys. Only nit is the interior latch lock screw doesn t have a good recess to go into and so you need to tighten firmly against the square bolt. Overall a great keyless lock. 5
