Rusted Last summer, someone attempted to break into my drive up storage unit. I purchased this pair because I needed two new locks. Unfortunately one of the locks rusted in two spots within three months of use. I am so bummed! Looks like I am going to have to look into a better lock for outside use. 1Not for use outside in the winter I purchased these locks for my Stealth trailer. The lock has a small drain hole at the bottom of the lock to let moisture out, but as shown in the picture the trailer requires the locks to be sideways. Since it cannot drain in the sideways position, water collects inside the lock and freezes making it impossible to open the lock with the key. Fortunately nothing inside the lock warped. It was a sunny winter day when I needed to get in the trailer and a bucket of warm water was enough to thaw out the locks. I'm confident this could happen regardless of lock position when cold given how easily water can get inside the lock. 1Perfect Pod Lock I needed a lock to secure a Pod and this works perfectly with their system for s fraction of what they charge. It s sturdy and when locked it is not possible to access the mechanism to cut off the lock. 5Cheaply China Made Lock with American Company Logo - Failed to Work Right Out of The Package I've received a brand new and sealed Master Lock 40T package in the Amazon Locker today. The front of these Master locks show Master "No40". When I took these locks out of the package and tried to lock/unlock them with their keys, I could barely turn the key on one of of these locks (I do lift weight, just so you know). If they ever get rusted a little bit on the inside, you'll be out of luck to unlock them. I noticed immediately that the internal mechanical parts were not aligned properly inside because how cheap these Master Lock parts were crappy-made in China (See the attached picture showing where these Master Lock 40 were made) with poor workmanship, and you can quickly tell that these Master Locks weren't made to last. What else can you expect in quality from crappy things that are made in China with American company logo? I've already shipped them back to Amazon. 1Working with the manufacturer on my issue This is easily the WORST purchase I ever made on Amazon in 15+ years. The lock stopped opening after TWO -- yes TWO -- uses. Amazon was great in processing the return for the lock, but the real reason to stay away from this item is that now I will have to pay a LOCKSMITH to cut off the lock from my storage unit. So this lock will end up costing me way more than the purchase price. So, if/when it stops working, you could be out even more $$$ just to get your lock removed from wherever you were using it!!! The warranty does not cover cost of a locksmith. Be warned. 1Gets the job done at CubeSmart I purchased this lock to use at CubeSmart self storage in Tucson AZ. It's cheaper than what they sell at the office, while offering the same level of protection.The lock comes with only two keys. I kept one for myself and left one with a classmate, so that he could retrieve my stuff in case I couldn't return to the city.I wish there's a third key that I can give to the storage facility manager for receiving packages. Arizona law prohibits the manager from releasing the key to anyone other than myself, so the second key has to be left with my classmate. 4Simple, don t buy it. Great lock if you don t want anyone (including yourself) to ever be able to access your belongings. After two months of it being on the door and being used all of four times, the lock was struggling to open. During my attempts to open it the key broke off in the lock. Feeling like Hercules over here, but pissed off ar this garbage product. 1Used for "PODS" Worked with "PODS" if anyone is wondering. 4Meh If you could give half stars, I'd give these 3.5. They just aren't quite 4 star quality.These were among the first locks I purchased for some of the security needs of our new rv. And as time has passed, and I read more, I now know I cold have done better for similar money. Not being a lock expert, I went immediately to what I know. Master locks. As it turns out, the vast majority of master lock products range somewhere between straight junk and painfully mediocre. They do make some ok higher end locks, but at the end of the day, master dosent make a padlock I'd prefer over an Abus for competitive price.With that said, these particular locks aren't miserable. The research I've done seems to suggest that they are ok for my needs. After all, deep cycle led acid batteries are not high on a thief's list. All the same, and knowing what I know now, I would have spent my money on Abus locks instead . I am consoled by the fact that I'm not out a lot of money. On the other hand, I wouldn't trust them to protect lithium ion batteries either. You can do much better than these for reasonable money. My suggestion is to do your research and buy enough lock for your needs. If I had a do over, I'd have bought a bit more lock for a bit more money. In any case, these will be the last master locks I ever buy. 3It fit really nicely on my pod-like storage moving device but it was ... This is a really decent lock. I bought it for moving. It is solid enough in construction, there's no way you'd be able to get a bolt cutter in there to break it off. It fit really nicely on my pod-like storage moving device but it was too small for the moving truck. I ended up using a cheap, thinner lock for the truck. That was really the most disappointing part about this purchase - it is allegedly the same thing you can rent from the moving truck company but then it doesn't fit on their doors. Perhaps a larger version of this would have worked a little better but I am not sure. I took off one star because the locking mechanism sticks a little bit every couple of times you use it. This is especially frustrating when the lock is locked on to something and you have to try to wiggle it around to get it to behave. Overall a solid purchase but be careful about the thickness you need since one size does not fit all. 4
