Customer Reviews

Cheap, low quality construction. If you look carefully at the picture you will note that where the metal that holds the roller enters the handle it is two separate pieces of metal. Because of this, if you use very much pressure at all with this brayer the mounts start to spread and before long the holes that the "axle" for the roller mount on spread apart and no longer hold the roller in place at all. After constantly trying to get this POS to tighten back up so it was useable I finally gave up and bought a different one. 2It broke after 1 month. I am very upset with the quality of this product. When it came, it seemed to be a well made item. However, my husband has had this for 35 days and it broke today. The "return window" was over 4 days ago so we cannot return it even though it is defective. If this is made right, I will change my review. Until then, I do not recommend. 1Chosen for sturdiness, not disappointed I bought this to roll FixIt Tape when applying it on a textured surface and to add such a roller to my tools. The roller performed perfectly. I wanted a roller that would allow me to apply considerable pressure. Many similar rollers, appropriately referred to as J Rollers because the handle and roller shaft appear similar to the letter J, are supported on only one end; therefore, unless they are extremely sturdily built (and priced accordingly), attempting to apply firm , even pressure is not possible and often bends or breaks the roller. I don't intend to use the roller frequently; if I did I would want it to have excellent bearings in the rollers shaft, and the resultant roller would cost much more.. This roller turns smoothly enough for applying and smoothing tapes, banding, and narrow laminates, but I do not consider it a craftman-level tool. By the way, FixIt Tape is a great product; it is sealing two starred cracks in a shower pan until the shower can be replaced; I rolled the tape to help affix it tightly on the no-slip pebbled surface. 5Old one was good, new one is even BETTER! This is a nice, heavy-duty rubber roller. We use it for rolling banner seams that have been taped or glued together. Our first roller lasted 16 months. My only complaint is that the pin - the actual roller mechanism - is probably thinner than it should be. After 16 months of use, the pin on our roller wore down so thin that it broke. The value is still good, and I purchased this same roller again as a replacement. I'll probably try to occasionally oil the pin this time in the hope that it will last longer.EDIT: I just received the new roller today, and the rolling mechanism has been redesigned. I don't see any possibility now that the pins would ever wear out. I'm updating my review to 5 stars, as this company obviously pays attention to user feedback and improves any weak points in their products. 5I bought this to help smooth out our eternabond tape ... I bought this to help smooth out our eternabond tape on the roof of our RV. This product rolls freely and definitely helped smooth the flat surfaces of the tape. I did have to use my hands and fingers to help mold tape around the non smooth edges that this tool could not smooth but if doing a large FLAT smooth area I highly suggest this tool. I gave it a 4 star because I did expect it to be wider, but I was using 4" tape. to my knowledge there is not a 4" roller and I think there should be. :) I also think applying the tape can be done with your hands though it will take you longer. 4A keeper This roller is a fine tool, one to keep. Flawless in operation, built for long use, there is no doubt it'll remain in your toolbox. From the comfortable, soft handle to the quality rubber roller this is built for the job of rolling. It's not overbuilt but done appropriately just right has a steel cylinder running on a hardened steel axle. The rubber roller is solidly bonded to the cylinder and the axle rolls in a hardened steel frame, so hardened steel all around (no guessing, I tested all steel parts with a sharp file). The frame is tanged into the handle with zero play. This is the most comfortable roller in the three I've used, by a wide margin. 5A solid product. I was a touch hesitant to spend more than $5 on a roller, but this one has proven me wrong. I have used a few times recently for sealing up plastic window barriers for the winter. The handle is indeed comfortable and very maneuverable. The roller is firm, but still has some giver and is non-marking. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone considering purchase - the product matches the description very well and is well built to last a long time. 4You Can Feel it-Quality I use this seam roller for wood veneering and parquetry and its great. The RUBBER roller has some elasticity and gives slightly perfect for inlays. Smooth textured roller and dense. Using a number of rollers this one is built to last. They cut corners in the right places. The ROLLER is supported on both sides with 1/8" (~3mm) thick STEAL that does not appear stamped out. I have bent rollers that were only supported on one side. I can use my weight as leverage without fear. The AXEL is solid metal 3/8" diameter without ball barrings, cuts cost but allows glue spreading or some other goope. The handle is plastic with a thin layer of softer rubber encasing it. Makes it feel nice. This has become my go to tool when need even though it is smaller @ 2" wide. Definitely worth the cost, quality materials and design. 5Expected something better I thought this looked like a good quality roller to apply damping/deadening mat in vehicle interiors. I've got probably 25 years of doing this mostly full time and have laid a bunch of mat. I've had a mix of rollers over the years, and thought this looked comfortable and durable. The only issue-and a significant one-is that the rubber wheel "walks" in the bracket off to one side and rubs-and since that metal bracket is unfinished it really stops the rubber wheel from turning. If I really try hard to keep the rubber wheel centered I can keep it working smoothly-but that's not how this work is done, you're moving like a paint roller-not just back and forth. You need to work an area, side to side, back and forth. Oh well, I'll try this again soon to see if it's worth keeping. Despite what looks like a better quality roller this is a major hindrance to basic functionality. 2Almost Perfect !! Built well, but.....The axel that the roller sits on extends past the metal sides a bit. This scratches anything that rubs against the sides. When rolling next to a wall, banister or anything the roller pin scratches or gauges. The sided should be solid on the outside and noting sticking out, maybe even plastic coated to protect nearing surfaces.Need to be careful when rolling up against anything, as I found out when I scraped my newly finished wood stairs. The only part that is poorly designed.Handle could be an inch longer... 3
