but I wouldn't recommend this because of the bulky size and because it ... It works so I won't give it less than 3 stars, but I wouldn't recommend this because of the bulky size and because it only rotates 180 degrees. Because of these two factors, there's a great chance it won't fit well or it will have to stick out in some awkward way because you might not be able to rotate the bulk of the device away from obstructions such as nearby cables the way you want to.On my desktop tower where I am using this, the case bumps out right next to the USB slot. The port fits but at a slight angle. I can't even say it is 100% in there but it does at least still work.I haven't tried this out in my laptop, but the USB slots are right next to the HDMI cable so there's a chance I could only use this with the port being vertical which is just awkward. 3A lot of Value--Works Great! Summary: Overall, I am really pleased with this purchase. Does what it advertises it does, is versatile with a rotating mechanism that allows it to turn, and provides much needed expansion for my work laptop. Background: I purchased this item in order to expand my PC Laptop's USB capabilities. My laptop is used for work, and I hook up two, 29" monitors, a mouse, a keyboard, and also need room for extra things such as USB Flash Drive, and a USB Headset. I only have two USB ports, so I didn't have enough space for all of my peripherals.Functionality: It functions EXACTLY as advertised and provides USB 3.0 speeds (which is irrelevant for most peripheral devices, but not irrelevant for Flash Drives).Quality: It feels fragile. This is why I reduced the star by 1 grade. I have NEVER had an issue with it, and it is still going strong six months later, but you know how sometimes when something just feels like if it was twisted, or moved the right way it would just snap? That is how this feels.Design: I love that it rotates and can be turned to whatever desk or mounting situation my laptop is in. Nice feature. It looks cool and people regularly ask me what it is. They think it is way cooler some of the others they've seen that do similar things.Value: This is where it shines. Outstanding value! I paid a little more than ten bucks and got something that fit my exact needs. I am hoping that the durability withstands the tests of time and my constant travel. If so, this item was a steal!Final Thoughts: I fully recommend this product, but please take note of my concern for fragility. Although I have not had a problem, I could see how others might. 4I needed a USB repeater for my laptop that has ... I needed a USB repeater for my laptop that has all sorts of outputs except enough of the ones I use the most. Measures 1.5" x 3" and it's a bit over 1/4" thick and has four ports, three on the long side, and one on the short edge farthest from the swivel.Unit works well and flips 180 degrees so the port on the top of the unit faces the back of the laptop. So far no problems but it has to be removed when the laptop is being stowed to remove pressure on that one connector. This is a sizeable (and functional) extension to the side of the laptop which thus makes it prone to being tugged or yanked if not careful which could damage the port. However it looks solid enough for normal use.No driver problems - windows 10 recognized it immediately. 4Great idea, but cheap. This was a great idea, but cheap in execution. The first time I used it, the swiveling bit functioned perfectly. I was easily able to switch it to either side of my laptop and it worked great. The second time I picked it up to use, I noticed the piece where it swivels didn't sit as flush to the base as it did before. Upon grabbing it today (third time using it), I went to swivel and the entire piece popped-out. Now it won't swivel and hold its position... it just twists back to the same position. Definitely a let down. 1durable, low profile, 3.0 usb - tested 1 year This does everything it says it does. i tested the swivel durability out of the box, and then held onto this for over 1 year of daily use on my pc to date, without any problems.Note: The video shows a 90 degree rotation, however I soon learned that it (DOES) do a 180 degree rotation though a bit stiff on the second 90. - again, I've used this over a year without problems utilizing the 180 degree rotation. 5 stars. 5Close but no perfect The hub works as advertised but in my opinion it has two problems, both having to do with its size.I wanted a hub that I felt comfortable leaving plugged into my Surface Pro. If you plug it into the SP3 without rotating the plug the hub is long enough that it interferes with the charging connector. Yes you can rotate the hub but then the hub extends beyond the top of the display or at some crazy angle. This leads to the second problem, the hub places pressure on the socket when cables are attached. As you cannot replace the USB socket on the SP3 I'm hesitant to place any extra strain on the socket.I have been using an Amazon Basic USB hub that connects by a cable and I will continue to use it . 4I'm Amazed I am amazed at the quality truly. There are other name brands and off-name brands thatI have purchased that work well, but this model fit for a tablet but unbelievably fit for Laptops also!A nice snug fit. It kind of hugs the side of the laptop. Which is what I want. It works seamlessly, when plugging inother devices. I also use one as a permanent for an external hard drive with my photography laptop. They are sturdy in that under normal careful use I have had no issues of suddenly not working/breaking. I find the MakeTech Co. usb adapter reliable. If I have to remove it I do not yank or rip out of the port. I am careful and gentle with this little amazing piece of technology and it works perfectly with all my laptops. 5The perfect companion to a Surface Pro 3 I have been using this hub every time that I need to connect either a peripheral, or a flash drive. I used two usb 3.0 flash drives at the same time, transferring data between each flash drive, and from the Surface Pro 3 to the flash drives, and there was no hesitation, no concern of "not enough power" to support all devices through 1 USB port, no issues at all. This hub does not require a separate power source to support the additional connections. Not many hubs can do that on a PC or laptop, so this was a great surprise for me. Very well made hub, solid feel to it, swivels a bit tightly but would rather it be tight than too loose. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to expand their 1 USB hub on the Surface Pro 3 into more. 5A Stellar USB3 Hub I bought 2 of the MAKETECH Ultra Slim Aluminum 4 Port Rotatable USB 3.0 Hub with Swiveling Connector for Microsoft Surface, Macbook, Ultrabook and Laptop (Black)'s. Most laptops have insufficient ports to attach all the peripherals needed simultaneously from time-to-time (my ASUS has 3 (2 USB 3, my wife's HP 2-in-1 has only 2 ports) resulting in cable juggling and prioritization of equipment attached to get the job done. With the extra 4 ports available, it makes for a much better, more usable system. My wife uses a Russian keyboard and mouse dongle, filling up the available ports (she prefers a mouse to the inbuilt mousepad; so do I; for the improved control). With this USB hub she no longer has to decide which to remove to allow her to plug in a camera or memory stick, she do them all. The fact that it is USB2 and 3 compliant means she can use any available port and keep working.I have attached 3 USB3 external HDDs and the hub didn't flinch, so as long as the original USB3 port on the laptop is capable of supplying enough power, this hub will work well. I haven't needed to use the rotation available, but depending on which port you plug it into, I can see that you still are able to use all the ports on the laptop, rotating it out of the way of an adjacent port that might otherwise be blocked.I have only had the hub for 4 days, so longevity is unknown but it feels robust and as long as you support the hub while connecting cables it stays in the connection port firmly and doesn't flop around even with 4 cables attached. The accompanying leaflet which comes with the hub offers no instructions on usage, so it is essentially useless, however how much information do you need for a hub?The hub offers 3 ports on one edge and another on one end. It is about the same thickness as my Samsung S7 Edge, only about 70mm (~3") long, ~40mm (1.5") wide and weighs an insignificant amount for practical purposes. This is a truly professional, fit for purpose, piece of kitI am super happy with this device; I think it is a stellar product and I highly recommend it. 5Unusable with wireless mouse and keyboard This is a poorly made, cheap USB 3.0 adapter. It's essentially unusable with a wireless mouse or keyboard however... it introduces several SECONDS of latency... like we're literally talking about typing keys and then waiting 2-3 seconds for the output to populate to the screen. I have a few different wireless input devices, and they behavior was the same regardless of what I used. So it basically doesn't work with wireless peripherals at all, which is typically what you'd use with a laptop. I wouldn't be surprised to see that if you used a USB 3.0 flash drive on this, did a speed test with nothing else plugged in, and all of the sudden saw that the read/write speeds had plummeted. 1
