Customer Reviews

Go to Flashlight I have several LED flashlights all in the price range of the Mag-Tac or more expensive and yet I find after 18 months of daily usage that the Mag-Tac is my preferred flashlight and I had zero issues with it. I buy Surefire 123A batteries in a pack of 24 which seems to be the most economical way. In addition to being a well manufactured product I find it is the most comfortable flashlight I have to hold. Just seems to fit my hands better than my other lights.I made a mistake in posting this review on the plain-bezel. I actually purchased the crown-bezel. 5... a year with this light now and I am pretty happy with it Almost a year with this light now and I am pretty happy with it. It works as I expected, and much better than the lower-end Maglites I have owned. I cannot say it has been severely tested, but moderate use. I Iike the fact that it's American made, and does not cost $250. It is a sturdy light, and bright. I have heard a few bad things about the switch, I have not encountered any problems yet. If I could make any changes to it, it would be the brightness, and clip. The brightness is too bright for general use, I would really like to be able to select a brightness of about half of what it is with a mechanical type method of changing it, not in the switch. The clip loosens up and slips/moves, I don't like this. Need a better to secure the pocket clip. All in all, I am very satisfied with this flashlight. 4Poor mans E2d This is a great CR123 flashlight from maglite. It gives my surefire a run for there money at this price point. There are a few issues with it though. It keeps magnlites signature focusing/diffusing adjustable lens, which is great. Its bright and simple to use. Good value. All that being said here are my issues: the finish is weak. Already its been scratched off in a few places from my bag and my pockets. Come on now! Its bigger than it looks. The clip is huge making the flashlight appear a little smaller in the picture than it is. Read the dimensions carefully. Also the clip sucks. It is by far the worst clip Ive ever used. After trying to put it on a second time, the tool broke inside the dumb little screw hole, stranding the plastic hex screw in there. Forcing me to break the thing off to get it out. What a stupid terrible crappy quality design. Use metal and make it smaller and less of an issue, like most other flashlight and even knife makers out there. Also I wish there was a dim mode. Thats a pretty huge oversight at this point. I understand simplicity, but it sucks to have a penlight too for close up work when this is in my load out. I wish the crowned bezel was more aggressive. If you're going to offer it in two flavors why not go a little more aggressive? They're very subdued and I'm not sure they are especially suited to self defense. Lastly the switch is easy to use, but i prefer pressure then clicky switches. For all intents in purposes this is a poor mans Surefire E2d. Worse finish, less refined, no low mode a little bulkier, crappy click a little less throw... Still a maglite solitaire was probably my first flashlight as a little kid, and its nice to see Maglite finally getting into the Cr123/tactical flashlight game with a respectable model that can fit in your pocket. 4Made in USA, and competitive I bought this light as a weapon light for a rifle. I am also somewhat of a flashlight geek, and I keep a few outstanding flashlights from over the years, meaning I have nice USA made flashlights and Chinese made flashlights (mostly Fenix). Now, I am fully aware that this MagTac seems to have lower specs than comparable Chinese lights. That's true. But, this light is still competitive for the following reasons:-It is definitely bright enough. Some lights are too bright, especially for weapon use.-It is well built and handles recoil well. Lesser lights fail in these situations.-the price ain't bad, even if you don't consider "Made in USA"-the switch logic of the black MagTac is good, no strobe! I still have never used strobe for any reason on any of my lights-CR123 batteries store well and have a long shelf life. Perfect for a rarely used, but critical light.I like throwing money at USA manufacturers whenever I can, and Maglite makes a good product worth the $$$$. 5MagLite This is a great value for the money. I've been using it since July 2013. It uses 2 - 123A 3volt batteries. The flashlight has an on/off button on the back (bottom). One click (press of the button) is a temporary light for as long as the button is pressed. Two clicks and the light is on until clicked again to turn it off. Three clicks and the light becomes a strobe. The light output of 320 lumens does not have a reduced setting as some other models have - however - that said I purchased it as utility for everyday use and emergencies. It has been used around the home, in my truck and carried in the field for two months. It has endured rain and hot weather and continues to function flawlessly. Keep in mind the flashlight does get mildly hot from use because of the technology used to produce the high intensity light. It comes with an optional belt clip and has a scalloped head. The scalloped head has protected the front of the light on several occasions when dropped. The belt clip is very handy and holds the light securely to your belt or in your pocket. The light is made in the USA and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a dependable very bright flashlight that is highly durable and a great value for the money. 5Great, high quality flashlight. So far so good. Have used it quite a bit since I received it a few weeks ago. 100% reliable so far.Pros:Clip - large and has a defined curve to place your fingers.Large knurling, which will not tear up your clothes, but provides a good grip surface.Scalloped head for sitting on it's head to light a small area or I guess some sort of tactical use.Good gaskets provide fine sealing.Lifetime warranty and excellent customer serviceIt's a thrower, not a wide spread beam, which I prefer. Good enough for close and distance use.Strobe at 12hz is good for signalling, checking timing on engines and disorienting strange animals. The momentary switch is a nice feature and one I use quite frequently, makes no noise and is easy to use.Cons:Plastic lens. At this price, it should be glass. I am not able to find replacement plastic lenses on any sites.Price - a bit high compared to it's competition who have less bulky clips and higher lumen ratings.Nice to have:18650 compatibility.Slimmer pocket clip.Overall a high quality flashlight that I will rely on until the next model appears! 4Great tactical light. Bright, has the 3 essential functions, easy to use, but head is 1.05" not 1" POSITIVES:Great tactical light. Bright, is easy to use, and has the 3 essential functions:1) Click once for momentary on, useful for signalling (e.g. SOS) or for quickly identifying an intruder without giving away your position,2) Click twice for full power (320 lumens!), which can see things 200 yards away or blind an attacker,3) Click three times for a strobe light (also 320 lumens!) that can blind and disorient an attacker. It's also a perfect size and weight for a tactical light, IMHO.Big enough to use as a striking weapon for self-defense (and the crowned bezel can help with this), yetsmall enough to clip to a pocket or belt and not feel weighed down, or even kept in your pocket. I suggest using the included clip to secure it in place inside a a pocket, with the rear of the flashlight peeking out of the pocket so it's easy to grasp. The crowned bezel can be used as a striking weapon for self-defense, or as a glass-breaking tool (in case you're trapped inside a sinking car). A fringe benefit of the crowned bezel is that if you accidentally leave it on and place it face-down, enough light will leak out that you'll realize you left it turned on.NEGATIVES:Only 2 minor shortcomings:1) Uses two CR123 batteries, which are more expensive and harder to find than AA or AAA batteries (so I suggest keeping a couple spare batteries). However, the advantage to CR123 batteries is that they're more powerful than AA batteries (higher voltage), which gives you a brighter light 320 lumens!)2) The head of the Mag-Tac is 1.05" rather than 1", so it doesn't fit the same 1"-head accessories as the Maglite Mini-Mag AA, Maglite XL50, Maglite XL100, Maglite XL200, or other 1" accessories (such as traffic wands, colored lens filters, and anti-roll devices). However, the tail end is still 1", so you can put a 1" anti-roll device on the tail-end and it'll fit fine. You can also order traffic wands for the Mag-Tac from Maglite, but at $8 each it would be better if it could share the same traffic wands as all the 1"-head Maglites. 5Best Tactical Light This product lives up to the Maglite name. Its bright durable and sleek. The light is 310 lumens throws 182 meters and it IPX4 water resistent. It has 3 mode. Click once for momentary. Click twice for high power with a four hour battery life. Click three times for low power with a 17 hour battery life. Comes with 2 cr123 batteries and a pocket/belt clip. I would highly recomend this and all other Maglite flashlights. 5Just buy this one! You won't regret it! First, I need to say that I've had an incandescent MagLite 3-D for 20 years (my father bought it for me when I started driving at 16 years old and I am now 36). I decided it was time to upgrade my flashlight supply, so I purchased 3 new MagLites for 3 different purposes. One for my nightstand, on which I also keep my pistol, (ML300LX LED 3-Cell D), one for my glovebox in my vehicle (ML50LX-LED 2-Cell C), and then this Mag-Tac LED 2-Cell CR-123. My initial primary purpose for this model was for walking my dog at night in my neighborhood because the street lights provide minimal coverage and there are a lot of very dark areas that are otherwise pitch black. I wanted a compact light that would be easy to use in a situation where I need useful, immediate, bright light, while still being able to manage my dog's leash and my firearm in the case of an unfortunate situation. The first night I tested it, I was amazed at the brightness and the length of useful illumination of the beam. It was just a bit humid (in Atlanta) and I could see the actual beam of light emanating from the lens for yards. For a moment, I thought I had purchased a mini-light saber from Amazon. Prior to purchasing this flashlight, I did a lot of research regarding current LED flashlight technology. While I am partial to the MagLite brand (see above 20+yr that's still ticking), I was concerned about the performance of an LED flashlight, given the current state of the technology. I cannot express how impressed I was when I first tested this flashlight in both indoor and outdoor dark conditions! I almost regret ordering the other two models mentioned above because, for my average needs, this flashlight is more than I need. Although, the models I mentioned above are not really comperable as far as purpose and use goes. I really like the rear cap push button for this size flashlight. I should point out that I have only owned and used it for about a week, so I cannot speak to the battery life, dimming curve associated with battery discharge, or some of the other malfunctions occurring a few weeks after initial use that are described by other reviewers. So far, I have been amazed by this device. In fact, I ordered another for myself and two more as gifts. Just to be clear, I purchased the regular bezzle model with the dim function. Sorry for the long review, but hopefully this helps some people make their decision. 5Awesome feel in your hands Awesome feel in your hands, I feel safe when I am out in the dark looking for missing dogs, the beam is unbelievable bright....it's pretty much ruined me for other flashlights now. I bought several in different colors for family members who have to walk late after dark in a parking lot. This beam is so bright that nothing can hide in the shadows. the only problem is that it is so powerful it sucks through the batteries quite quickly and we have to keep a spare box of them close at hand. We try to use them for those times that we really need to light up the area and not for every day stuff...but I warn you, they will spoil you. 5
