Customer Reviews

Reliable Wuality Switch I ve had this switch for quite awhile now (approximately a year plus) and it has done its job perfectly since installation. Mine is wired into a room with 9 recessed lighting fixtures with 65 watt bulbs each. It handles them fine. It will get a little warm if it s on for awhile, but that s expected with any dimmer switch. I like how it has a delayed off feature. Though I don t use it much, I can see how it could be useful to leave the lights on a bit longer especially if the switch wasn t by a door as you leave. It also saves on light bulbs. I used to have one going out at least once every other month, but not one has gone out in over a year since I ve had it. 5Skip this one and buy the 3/4 way version; MACL-153MLH I have purchased several; MACL-153MLH, the three way version of this one. In addition to working properly they also allow for a timer to dim off the ability to set minimum and maximums.I use CREE bulbs for all of my lights and never had dimming issues til this dimmer. They would not dim off as mentioned in another review, have additional buzzing, and have shakey dimming.I would recommend spending an extra couple of dollars on the way version. Even if using for single pole. 2Awesome Dimmer We recently remodeled our basement and wanted to use Decora style plugs/plates throughout. I've always been a fan of Lutron's dimmers/switches so we primary used those for lights and the Leviton R62-16352-OWS for the outlets, along with the Lutron Claro wall plates. We've been using this style of Lutron's dimmers for several years and have never had any issues with them. I really like the fade in/fade out when the switch is turned on or off, and the ability to save your "favorite" light level is an added bonus. The instructions are well written; Even someone with little electrical experience should be able to install this dimmer. 5Great, lookikg to buy these for every room. Buttons are a bit annoying to interact with due to the fact that they aren't so easy to click as their size suggests. But aside from the small nuisance most people won't pay attention to, this is a great looking and feature filled switch. Download the full manual from Google and see what this switch can really do because the booklet included doesn't list all the features. 4A great dimmer for halogen/incandescent lights. Perfected the performance of my track lights. A great dimmer for halogen/incandescent lights. This particular model is only for these applications and much appreciated in my case. I have a particular track light that I enjoy but wanted to replace an older Lutron switch running it. It's packed with features from dimming fade in and out settings to letting you perfect the high/low thresholds to saving your favorite presets. I have this installed as part of a 4 gang box all using Lutron Claro hardware. Just a great product. 5Not a Good Dimmer Choice I ordered 2 of these programmable dimmer switches with adjustable fade. This switch is supposed to be programmable with a number of functions that can be adjusted, including fade on & fade off. One of the 2 switches fades off just fine, but despite trying to program it multiple times, was unable to get it to fade on. The second switch wouldn't turn off at all. My electrician contacted Lutron & was told how to program it. When he was able to come back, he tried again to reprogram it, but it still wouldn't work & I had to run over to Lowe's to pick up a plain LED/CFL dimmer switch. Unfortunately, too much time had elapsed since I originally purchased the switches & I was unable to return them. I do not recommend these switches that offer programmability - stick with something more manual. 2Extraordinary product! Exceptional product!I just installed two today. I love that one click goes to a pre-set dim level -- low light for getting up in the middle of the night, while two quick taps and you get full bright. Hold the switch down a couple of seconds, and it keeps the lights on while you leave to your next destination. I love the ramp up and ramp down effect -- seems so much easier on the eyes. Incidentally, the default presets I've just described are all programmable. The instructions include a web site where you can download programming instructions. I replaced two switches in about 10 minutes. It only took that long because I switched them out hot (not recommended), so I cut the old wires instead of trying to unclench them from the old switch -- easier to just strip a half inch of new wire and push it into the new connector then trying to actuate the release on the old switch when a wire is hot. The instructions are quite simple, but for three way switches it helps to know a little about home wiring, which is my case. I'm going to tackle that for our hall lights tomorrow. I never looked at switches that cost more than about a buck until I saw these at a friend's home and was so impressed that something as old as home wiring is still under development. For those who are converting to LED -- the Maestro product line will work for those as well, but you need a different model number, so read the literature carefully, and be sure to buy the LEDs that are dimmable. Incidentally, for those who don't even want to touch the switches, there are proximity sensor switches that also have a dimmer function.Amazon prices were lower than Lowe's or Home Depot and I've been a Prime customer for years, so letting UPS deliver a couple of these saved me a trip to the hardware store and I have the assurance of Amazon's easy returns, which I have not had to use very often, thanks to these reviews, but it's good to know it's there. 5Looks great, installation a (literal) snap once I figured it out! I've had one of these in place for the last 15 years or so, and the switch finally broke recently. I'll assume this to be as reliable & robust as the others, though you never know & i'd hate to wait 15 years to post a review. Installation was (mostly) easy. The only complication was the faceplate. This is the first time I'd used these "Maestro" faceplates with the hidden mounting screws, and I couldn't initially figure out how to get the decorative plate off out of fear of breaking it. I spent a few minutes tugging & peering into the gap between them hoping to find the secret, but it turns out there's no real trick: the plate is held on with a series of tabs near the switch area, & you just have to insert a small screwdriver in between the 2 plates there & carefully twist. Unfortunately, the installation instructions cover every possible installation variation but fail to mention the basic "how to remove the faceplate without breaking your $30 switch".Looks great, works just as expected. The only hiccup was down to my lack of experience & Lutron's assumption that everybody just knows how these plates are snapped together. 4Almost perfect dimmers, the standard for form and function in switches Lutron Maestro switches to me represent almost perfection in form and function. They replace regular dimmer switches, and introduce an almost perfect balance of usability (you can always tell whether its on or off, and what setting its at on or off) and looks. And that's not all, they're programmable for how quickly they fade, and what level they switch on to. They look very elegant and modern with square lines and subtly curved corners, and are available in an almost endless array of colors and situation options (single pole, dual pole, magnetic lighting, etc.)I only take a star off because I've had two different ones go bad on me over one year - in one the rocker switch got stuck in the on position, and another just blew some internal circuit. They're expensive to replace which makes me feel grouchy. However, I wouldn't buy anything else, which is a testament to their design/quality. 4Lutron dimmers are great dimmers. This model thought has a mechanical flaw Lutron dimmers are great dimmers. This model thought has a mechanical flaw. The lil plastic piece under the outer button, that presses the on/off button on the circuit board is very thin and prone to breakage, I have these dimmers all over my house and have never had the electronics fail however, ALL have had mechanical failures as described. The failures outlast the warranty period so you still end up buying a new dimmer. For this reason I give it only two stars. 2
