Customer Reviews

Don't waste your money on these notebooks if you have a map- the data won't transfer Initially I loved this pen/note system. The desktop app was a bit clunky but it was super useful I could look past all of that. Then December I started getting all these warning messages when opening the app. Unfortunately now, and for the last three months, I've been unable to download any data off the pen to my computer. The data is full, the pen and app are useless, and their tech team can't give any idea of when/if the bugs are going to get fixed. I bought these expensive notebooks that are useless because the data can't be uploaded. DON'T BUY LIVESCRIBE IF YOU HAVE A MAC. Their troubleshooting department isn't helpful, I spent hours trying all their patches and troubleshooting before they disclosed that the problem is that the application needs an update that they are "working on"... for months. 1Fantastic for note taking difficulties! Priceless! My intelligent, slow note-taking learning disabled college student finds this system priceless. These books purchased here are merely ongoing note taking books necessary for new classes and for the pen that works with them. I wish we knew about this in high school. The pen records what the professor is saying when my son merely touches this special paper. This is done when the professor talks too fast for my son to make the needed notes. He writes notes until he starts to fall behind. When he can't write fast enough or needs to focus on the professor as he/she is speaking, he just touches the pen to the beginning of the next line of paper and the pen will record what is said. I don't know how my son knows when it's time to touch the paper again. It will consume more time after class to listen to the recorded notes, but how much better than losing the info altogether! I highly recommend this for any student with note taking difficulties. 5Tips and How to turn this into loose-leaf!! The notebook itself is of good quality, it comes with a little pocket folder in the front to hold handouts and paraphernalia for class. The front cover comes with controls you need for your pen. The only issue I have had is with the binding. I carry heavy books and often the binding gets bent out of shape, and the papers don't hold inside the notebook. So remember, although it's good quality, it is not indestructible. Also, I have always been the type of student who organizes with binders instead of notebooks and folders. I HATE that livescribe does not sell a loose-leaf product. What I do now is buy the notebooks and take them to an office supply store which will cut the notebook at the perforations to make the paper into loose-leaf you can insert into a binder! They charge less than a dollar to cut each notebook. This makes it very expensive loose-leaf I am aware, but this serves my purpose better. In class I use this paper to record all the audio and take notes at the same time. I find that I write less notes and am able to concentrate better because I know that the audio is recording at the same time. One notebook will last you for each class. I am an upper level college student and have only ONCE used an entire notebook. I usually have 20 pages or more left over. The notebook and pen combo is useful in almost every subject, I have used this for math, english, philosophy, and sciences and find this great for every subject. Come up with your own code to make things simple. for example, when my professor mentions anything about an exam like (this may be on the test, or study this question), I put a star so that I can click on it when preparing for my test! I put question marks on areas that I don't understand so I can keep up with the rest of lecture and review later. 5Don't trust the reviews - no forward/back controls on this paper One of the reviewers for this paper set promised that the forward and backward controls were available on the paper, but they are NOT. This was a total waste of money for me. I already have a set, but I was looking for a set with the forward and backward and playback speed controls. Now I have more of what I didn't want. Great. However, other than the fact that the reviews were misleading, the paper itself works...it just doesn't have the features I wanted. Please bring back the forward/backward and speed controls to all the livescribe paper. 2Great quality paper (could've used more user info/tips) UPDATE 1 year **UPDATE** Still using the notebooks and pen system. These larger single subject notebook are great for someone who does a lot of writing or note taking. You can write on both sides of each sheet of paper. I am about to order my 2nd set of these. Attaching photos to show how much I have been able to fit on the pages. BTW, for people who tend to travel a lot or who tend to have problems organizing, this might be the best system of note keeping. I recently had to switch to a new laptop and it was tedious transferring other files to and from my Cloud storage. All the notes from these notebooks were easier to retrieve because of the system.4.5 stars because I like everything about the paper itself, but I wish there was an explanation with them about the whole "archiving" thing. I almost ripped that tag right off before I noticed what the writing on it said. I'm VERY new to the smart pen system so this was a little confusing to me. Also, I had to learn what the 1 2 3 at the tops of the pages meant... Just a little overwhelming when the pen itself was so easy to use. For the Pros: As a writer, I love how roomy the pages are. Writing on the paper is very smooth. For anyone else wondering, you can write on the back side of the paper & you can also right past the side margin line. I tried it and it worked. I have to make these notebooks last because I don't have the right kind of printer for printing more!Another thing that I still need to figure out is whether or not I can use highlighting markers without causing problems. 4Caution Echo and Pulse pen users....These are Livescribe 3 smartpen notebooks.... Caution Echo and Pulse pen users....the order of notebooks 1-4 was for the newer version of pen that uses Wifi only. The pen controls at bottom of page are missing the jump, bookmark, jump to position, playback speed, and volume. This isn't indicated anywhere in the listing and when I contacted Livescribe, they informed me I had purchased the "wrong' notebooks for my pen.Recording and position recognition still work, but if the other controls are important, you will be disappointed. From Livescribe tech support: Please be advised that you purchased the incorrect nortebooks which are the Livescribe 3 smartpen notebooks. In order for you to have your playback controls at the bottom of the pages that will let you slower or speed up your notes, you will need to purchase Echo smartpen notebooks 3Works well with the LiveScribe pen, no complaints This product does exactly what it says it will do. They work much better with the LiveScribe pen than just printing out some paper, although that is certainly an option. They are different colored enough from each other, and from notebooks 1-8 to not cause any confusion, and the spiral binding is of good quality, and does not come undone, like some notebooks I've used in the past.I've seen a few comments on here of people not sure what to do when they run out of these notebooks, on the LiveScribe software, when the notebooks are finished, you can name and archive them. When this is done, you can buy new notebooks 1-4 and use them all over again. Also, for those not familiar with the product, there is a sticker that seals the notebook shut when you first buy it, that you have to remove. Before you throw that sticker away, you must activate the notebook by tapping the LiveScribe pen against that sticker. Be sure to do this before you tear off the sticker and throw it away, or the notebook will not be active with the pen. 5The one thing I don't like is that these don't have the spot in the ... They work well with my echo pen & seem sturdier than some other notebooks I've bought. The one thing I don't like is that these don't have the spot in the bottom left margin where you tap to check the time on your pen, along with a few other little control buttons that my last notebook had, so I just keep the back cover from a different notebook with all of the controls in my binder along with this notebook. 4Perfect for Lectures, Meetings, Studying & Memory Sometimes when I'm going over my notes I have a hard time remembering what it was that my professor was trying to say, or even what I was trying to understand my shorthand. These Livescribe notebooks are a miracle for me especially with the new updates to the pen software. I am able to write out my notes during 3 hour long grad school lectures and then come home, plug in my pen, and the notes and audio are transferred to my computer for me to review. My favorite part is the ability to tap my pen on a specific point in my notes and it immediately plays the lecture that was going on at that exact moment.I did have to get a new Smartpen, the Pulse, because my old one wouldn't hold a charge anymore. I was unhappy with the way that the company wouldn't do anything about that. The pens are expensive, but worth the price, IF you feel you'd use it. The newest software that comes with the Pulse 8GB, which I bought, even translates your handwritten notes into typed.I use these in every class, but you have to use the pen with them or they are a waste of money. 5Livescribe Official Paper These work perfectly and are great... have great options for the pens and are in spiralbound binding. You can actually print out the paper you need for the pens but... this is no work and no muss/fuss. This also looks pretty professional. They have different colors on the outsides so that you can color code your notes, there's a bookmark with pen functions on it and there's places on each cover to stick other papers and such in. They're totally worth getting. 5
