Customer Reviews

WOW! Just wow!It is just super! The setup is easy, the controls are easy, It comes with a split USB charging cable, which allows you to charge both parts at the same time without digging for yet another cable. The range of flash power is quite wide. And one of the nicest things is the fact that they kept the shape boxy, instead of trying to be too fancy, rounding the edges and such. The result is an external flash the will sit almost anywhere in any direction or configuration.I have found everything in the description to be true. Nice unit! Kudos!5Awesome! Just needs an aperture calculator on the back.AMAZING super portable flash! Very versatile, as long as your subject is up close. My one complaint, because it is all manual, is there is no exposure calculator wheel on the back to determine the best aperture based on distance, iso, and flash power setting. I had to make my own and tape it to the back. They should at least consider selling an adhesive cardboard aperture calculator as an accessory - there's space on back to stick one. It would help those of us on film who can't do trial and error test shots. Everything else about this flash is so well thought out for portability and versatility.4I enjoy playing around with itI'm new to working with manual flash so it's been a learning process. I bought this particular flash because of a youtube video I saw that sparked my interest. There are so many options out there and this one just seemed easy to use and powerful enough for me to practice on.The remote trigger works great on my Nikon and Olympus cameras. It's powerful enough for short distances 10-15 ft. which is the distances I am mostly at away from the subject. The controls are pretty straight forward to use and the build quality seems sturdy enough for a few bumps here and there and for regular use. I like that its portable and light. You can tilt the flash bulb to various angles and it's self supporting so you can set it on just about any surface. It also comes with several gels you can attach easily.I mostly photograph my family so I am not a professional in any way. It's a straight forward very simple flash which can be difficult for newbies or someone like me which is why I got it so i can learn how to use manual flash and improve my skills. I highly recommend it for amateurs. I doubt that this is sufficient for professionals. its fun to use and experiment with.5Very well thought out productI use this primarily off-camera with the Ricoh GR III. The spread of the flash is only about 35mm wide, and the GR has a 28mm equivalent field-of-view, but that creates an interesting effect. The transmitter didn't work through large obstacles, but works perfectly around/through regular walls and at normal distances.I recommend using rechargeable NiMH batteries and not alkaline.Likes:- Comes with a pouch that holds everything- Includes colored gels- You can recharge NiMH AA's inside the device- Simple controls and good manual- LED video light is a bonus- Easily pocketable for use with compact camerasDislikes:- The hot on my unit is a bit out of alignment, so if you use the flash on-camera (which I rarely do) the flash will point a little to the right.- The included color-correction gels don't appear to include a proper CTO5Should work with everything but no TTLWhat s not to like about this? Works with everything pretty much. You ll have to manually set the strength but for a full off camera flash it s great. Nice small transmitter that talks to the flash unit. Comes with gels to alter the light a bit and easily adjusts the directions of light by pulling out the diffuser and swinging it upward.5Good value and doesn't leave you wanting an upgradeYou will have to read the manual (seriously I thought mine was broken till I read the manual), it's not intuitive. But once you figure it out, just leave the mode settings and enjoy. It's compact and affordable, with a great detachable hot shoe transmitter, that you can just leave on your camera as it's so compact. Then throw the flash in a jacket pocket as an always with you off camera flash. They also include color gels for the flash for some extra fun. The USB charging is great too. Room for improvement? Easy to find PDF of the manual, maybe make it so you don't need a manual. Splash proofing would be amazing but at the price I can see why it doesn't have. USB C. Works great on my Olympus E-M5 mkII. 5 stars as different from other products and actually a needed product, that I'm glad I purchased.5Amazing portable flashThis is the smallest wireless hand held flash I've ever seen. It also had led light functions and has a stupid simple interface. It's fully manual but if you are using a handheld wireless flash it should be manual anyway.5When it works, it's OK; getting it to actually trigger from my camera is the tricky partThe look and build of this thing is fairly nice, especially for the price: it's light (a little heavier with batteries, but not bad), it does have the cool built-in and detachable transmitter base, and based on some limited and non-scientific testing the flash intensity seems to be OK (maybe better than OK, but again I'm not measuring with any sort of equipment). My main problem with this is that in a few days of playing with it I just never can predict whether pushing the shutter button is going to actually trigger the flash. I'm using it from an Olympus PEN-F body, which has always worked extremely reliably with my ancient Oly flash. I have no idea why it's having problems, but the fact that it is means that I'm most likely going to return it. If it did work, it'd be a nice gadget for the price.Update I obtained a replacement for the first flash (probably not necessary). Same weird behavior. I was on the verge of returning it, but the behavior just wasn't making any sense to me so even while I was chatting with Amazon support I was trying to figure out what was going on.The Q20 has a couple of slave modes for *optical* slaving to another flash (first and second, pretty common). The state of that setting is reflected in a little LED next to the button that controls that feature on the flash. When the setting is red or green, it's set to be an optical slave. I now think that that was a key part of my misunderstanding: to whatever extent, that setting makes the camera hot shoe "fire" command work either not at all or erratically. With the flash set such that the slave light is completely dark, it works predictably in any camera mode, which makes sense because it's a dumb flash that's not supposed to have any idea what the camera is doing. I'm keeping this second one because even though it's not really a serious "pro" piece of equipment it seems like it might be super useful in some situations with the remote feature.Upping my rating to 4 stars because it's still a kind-of cheap thing and the user interface is variously weird. But not a bad purchase at all.4very compact and well built flashLike the compactness, and well priced, a bit awkward pairing the flash to the trigger, but once done seems easy to use4Pocketable wireless flashI purchased this flash to use with my Pentax Q and my Sigma DP2 Merrill. I love the small size, I can throw it in a shirt pocket when I'm not carrying a camera bag. It works as advertised. If I had to be super picky, I wish it had wider coverage (say out to 24mm) and more power. I had to resync the flash to the transmitter at one point and the buttons are a little on the small and fiddly side. Those quibbles aside, I think it is a great value at this price point and have had a lot of fun using it.5
