Customer Reviews

Neat little LED lights for the price I am in the consumer electronics industry and I know some manufactures that produce products like this costing hundreds if not thousands more so I was a little skeptical about this but given the price it was worth a try. My teenage girl was having a birthday party and I thought this would be a cool little thing to put up in the patio by the pool for some fun lighting. When I received the package everything was as expected. The LED strip was nicely packaged in a foil bag and the controller and power supply was in boxes. I hooked it up and plugged into the wall and it lit up my living room like times square! We played around with the different light settings and effects for a while and quickly figured out the remote. The instructions were not that great but if you just spend some time with all the functions you can figure it out. I wound up installing the LED strip under a soffit in my patio and plugging it into an outlet I installed that I taped off the switch for an outdoor ceiling fan light. The little controller box and power supply is tucked away and I let the IR sensor hang down so I can hit it with the supplied remote. The adhesive on the back of the strip did not stick to the painted wood very well but the included tacks placed every 18 inches or so did the job. I did have to extend the wires from the controller to the strip and used some simple 4 conductor alarm wire and soldered the joints. The operation of the light strip works pretty well. Once I figured out what RGB "mixed" settings we liked we programmed them and they recall each and every time just fine. I was a little worried about this since the power supply IS plugged into a switched outlet (the light from the ceiling fan remember? ) and it would loose the custom presets. In fact, if the LED lights were left on to a certain setting, when power is applied they actually turn back on to that setting, if the LED lights were "OFF" and power is applied, they remain off. Cool. We wound up programming a few presets that we like. A "color matched" one to match the other lights for general use, one that matches the shade of blue from the pool light and a couple of slow fading and flashing dance light settings for the kids. I was also happy to know that I was able to learn the IR codes into a programmable remote that I use for the stereo outside which is nice for our setup.Overall for the price it cant be beat, if your willing to spend some time and learning how the remote functions and install it properly I think it makes a good product. 4Easy to setup, bright and nice effects on remote control I am very happy with the price and simplicity of this product. The light are very bright and the setup is a snap. I did not use the 3M adhesive that came with these, I just wrapped them and tied them off. I would imagine you better clean a surface very well with alcohol before applying and also have some silicone gel or something to add if it fails. The 44 button remote control is confusing at first, but after some time I figured it out. DIY works like this:1 Press a DIY button2 Then use ONLY the arrow keys to adjust color to what you want to save on that DIY key3 Press and hold that DIY key for 2 seconds until the string flashes4 Now that color is saved on that DIY buttonThe Play button on the top just pauses or continues whatever it is doing. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to add a button that fades through the DIY colors. That way you can just have Red/Green for Xmas or Blue/Gold for UCLA etc... 5Cool Lights Ended up installing these in a boat. I do like the fully covered led lights and not just the sleeve. Cut the led's directly in half. Used the already wired and soldered ends for connections. Spliced these ends to the control box with solder and shrink tubing. Butt connectors were also useful at certain steps. I remove the plastic from the butt connector and cover it with shrink tubing. It makes it more slim for all the wires and gives it a cleaner look. Completely sealed the IR control box with Dicor caulking (what I had available). Plugged the cut ends of the sleeve with shoe goo and called it waterproof again. Mounted it upside down using heavy duty 3m double sided tape cut in half down the middle to match the 1/2 inch of the sleeve. Seems to be holding, but there has got to be a better way to mount the silicone sleeve, I am thinking super glue. The clips provided were not an option and the glue on the backing does not work at all. Purchased 20 feet of the 4 strand wire (RBG+) to cross the beam of the vessel. The wire was necessary, although a larger gauge, which made the contact clips I purchased useless. For + and - power to the box cut and strip the black wire and disregard the black power supply brick. On this sleeved LED it is red to positive, black to negative. On another set I had (sealed LED's) it was black (vehicle) to blue (IR unit wire) and red (vehicle) to brown (IR unit wire). Remote is a bit much. I prefer the smaller one. 4Great lights! Does not stay mounted. I bought this set to put on my RV underneath the awning. Great lights! Fun to play with. Very bright. They can be dimmed down if needed. Have not figured out the custom part of it but its really neat at night. I also like the fact that I don't have to mount the lights when I set up camp. I just have to turn them on. Much like what other users have said about how difficult it is to stay mounted is correct. Although the actual 3M adhesive is good. The waterproof protective housing is actually very difficult to adhere to. The ends start to peal away first and the weight of the lights pull the rest down. If you can tape up the ends from pealing away, it seems to work for the time being. I bought a stronger 3M double sided tape and its still the same. I have taped up the ends where its not utilizing the protective sleeve to adhere it to the camper. Will have to see how long that lasts. I gave it 3 stars because the most important part of the mounting system failed bad. And that is the main reason I bought this set. So I don't have to set them up and take them down every time I go camping. If they can find a sleeve that actually adheres to, I would easily give it 5 stars. 3Ideal choice for under cabinet lighting I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this product. I was initially hesitant after reading some of the other reviews in the past regarding miswired feeds, and poor quality but it appears as if they have either improved their quality control or I must have been lucky. I will certainly agree with the fact that the self adhesive strip that comes attached to the light strip is completely and utterly useless however. When you attempt to peel off the protective paper to expose the stickiness, you'll more than likely pull off the sticky strip itself. Not sure why they even bother, as it is extremely difficult to get stuff to stick to silicon rubber that is so flexible. I tried using hot glue to fasten these, but not even that sticks to the silicone cover. The LEDs are very bright, and the colors are amazing. I get tons of compliments during entertaining. I just wish that you could select and program the colors you want to flash. As it is now, when you select the flash option, it just flashes white, and you cant change it. You can speed it up or slow it down, but no choice on color. Minor gripe overall however. All in all, a pretty nifty way to add some light to your life. 5Can't complain We used to have some undercounter "puck" style lights that we bought from Ikea. The ballasts went bad and therefore, no lighting. An electrician was over and told us to buy some LED strip lights from Amazon. So, for $30, we bought this set. The actual LEDs are RGB, which we like much better than one Red, one Green, one Blue, one White.People are correct, it doesn't come with instructions on how to program the remote control. But, how often do you need strobe feelings under your kitchen cabinets? We leave it at white, and use a wall switch to turn it off and on. The remote stays in a drawer and never comes out unless we are showing off how it can strobe between different colors and whatnot.Again, we used the double sided tape that it came with (already affixed) to mount it under our kitchen cabinets. They've stayed up for about 2 months so far and we did not use the included anchors that it has to affix it further. It's worth the money that we spent to solve our problem. I'd buy it again. 4Awesome! Easy to assemble / use! When I first unboxed the product, I didn't fully understand how to put it together. The power supply and connections to the remote were simple enough, but it wasn't clear how to connect the lights to the power supply. The instructions that came with the lights didn't explain it either. The only word of instruction that they actually gave was to state that you need to ensure the arrows match(?!). Anyway, I snooped around YouTube and found a video from the supplier that explained how to assemble everything(search for 'LED wholesalers').Once the product was assembled and everything was operational, I was elated! These are awesome! The color variety is great, the lights are bright enough, and the included remote is just icing on the cake. The one thing that ties this whole package together for me and makes it a win is the remote, which incorporates several useful features. For instance, there's a transition / cycling effect, which cycles and transitions smoothly from one color to the next. You can also set the lights to function as a strobe, flashing in one or more colors. One of my favorite features is the ability to create, store and recall personalized colors; to create any color you like! Now, while the lights are indeed bright, it's worth mentioning that there are a couple of buttons on the remote that allow the user to adjust the level of brightness. As mentioned, one of the coolest features of the product is the ability to create custom colors. I should describe how to do that here, since you won't find it in the instructions:On the remote there are six buttons labeled "DIY" ('Do it yourself'). Pressing one will cause the lights to enter 'Do it yourself' mode. In this mode, a user can mix specific amounts of red, green, or blue light together to create custom colors. On the remote there are six buttons with up and down arrows. Each arrow has one of three colors associated with it - red, green and blue. Pressing up or down on one of colored arrow buttons will mix in more or less of that color to the color spectrum. Hence, if you wanted to make purple, for example, you'd remove all green light from the spectrum by pressing and holding the green *down arrow* button. Likewise, you can create various shades of any color by mixing in more or less of the three primary colors in various combinations using the up and down arrow buttons. Once you've got a color you like, simply press the DIY button you originally pressed (to enter DIY mode) to save that color as a preset to that particular DIY button. There are a total of 6 presets (DIY buttons) on the remote. To recall a color you previously saved, simply press the corresponding DIY button. To make adjustments to a preset, simply repeat this process. In summation, this is a really a great product that can't be beat for the price! That said, the company should work to improve and include proper instructions. That said, I'd recommend this product wholeheartedly. 4Adhesive No Good I received this as a gift in December for my travel trailer. It sat in its packaging until the weather got warm enough to install it. On a sunny 65 degree day I carefully cleaned the mounting location with rubbing alcohol. After it dried, I started the install. after removing the backing from the double face tape (in sections), I started sticking the light strip to the desired location. I found one section where the adhesive strip was pulling off of the light strip. After the entire strip was attached, I went over it pressing firmly to ensure good adhesion. I then siliconed the two ends for a little extra reassurance. I went out today and found that the double faced tape does not stick well at all. Many sections were hanging. I ended up running a bead of silicone along the entire edge in hopes that this will stay up. The last thing I want is to be driving down the road and have this thing flapping in the breeze.I would strongly recommend changing the double faced tape for something stronger. 3Use for theatre with DMX decoder I've bought a few of these kits, linked together up to 3 16' rolls of ribbon using the no solder "gapless connectors" by Hitlights. (awesome, but dont count on re-using.) I used the Torchstar DMX decoder to control them through my lighting console. I cut the end off the power supply that came with the ribbon kit and used it to power the DMX decoder. I didnt mind cutting the PS end off, since i wont use the remote receiver. And, once i bought more of the same kit, i had extra PSs.Great color, but the dimming profile isnt perfect. They snap out at about 5%, and snap on fast. But with some fancy programming, this can be avoided. Cutting and connecting the ribbons together is really easy. Note: if you use the Hitlights connectors, peel back a little adhesive backing first. The adhesive backing does not review well, and since i re-use mine, i use mounting zipties to put it up, and leave the backing on.Cheap, fairly rugged, and great bang for the buck. Everything you need is in the package, and wire and connectors are really cheap. Adds a great layer of awesome to events, theatre sets and your kitchen. 5Great Product (+how to program/use the remote) I received mine and I'm very happy with the product and the build quality. It seems like the actual product has changed over time. Here's what they shipped in Sept 2012. The seller was LED Wholesalers shipped by Amazon.I received a 5 meter flexible, epoxy covered RGB LED light strip. This is not a silicone waterproof tube like mentioned in some reviews. It is a clear, flexible coating. The back of the LED strip has a 3M adhesive. I also received the 44 button remote and a 110-220vac 4 amp power supply. A warning sticker states that you can not add another LED strip due to power consumption if you are using the DC supply (that's what it comes with). There is however, a connector at the end of the strip that would allow you to connect another one. There are no directions.Connection was easy and pretty straight forward. To connect the controller to the strip, just match the arrows on each plug. I accidentally reversed the connection once with no ill affects. The controller is only about 6 inches from the LED strip so if you want to hide it you might want to buy something like the '60 Inch 4-Pin LED Strip Light Connector.'As I mention there are no directions. Here is how you use the remote. The power button is the red button on the upper right. The colored buttons at the top, adjust the color in real time. For example, when you press green, the lights turn green. The two white buttons with sun icons control the brightness when using this mode.Below the colored button are the DIY buttons. These are the only programmable buttons on the remote. Here's how - Press the DIY button that you want to program. Using only the arrow keys just about the DIY buttons create the custom color you want. Press the same DIY button again to save your color. To display your save color press the DIY button once. The Jump keys are pre-programed. In that mode the lights jump between 3 or 7 colors (Jump3, Jump7 button). The Fade keys are pre-programmed. In that mode the lights fade between 3 or 7 colors (Fade3, Fade7 button). The Flash key flashes the entire strand a whitish color. The Auto key changes between several different colors in a pre-programmed pattern. The quick and slow keys speed up or slow down the speed of the flash or jump transitions. The black key to the left of the power key pauses and resumes the flash or jump sequences.Update: I bought two more of these (for a total of three sets). At first I was surprised because the gender of the 4 wire plugs was different between the three sets. I then realized that all of the plugs on both the LED strip and the color controller are female. They are converted to male with a small easily removable adapter which gives you flexibility in your layout. 4
