Customer Reviews

Excellent light. A few minor inconveniences, but well worth the price! The rundown:This is an excellent little light. I am a helicopter mechanic and required a light to work on tight spaces for inspections that last extended periods of time, and this light is perfect for it. It is not too bulky, the batteries last a long time if you don't keep it at max (which you really don't need to. Even the lower light settings are fairly bright). The light setting is adjusted in the back and is very nice/easy/convenient to adjust. This light is well designed. The light will NOT "slide" down your forehead. Good materials used to build it.The good:*It has 4 tilt positions (I wish it had one more to tilt it upward, but it works fine the way it is)*Has an excellent spotlight-to-wide angle range.*It has a sliding-type of dimmer in the back that works great.*The weight is very well distributed and does not feel heavy-sided neither in front (lamp), nor in the back (batteries)*The elastic can be adjusted easily to fit your head size, and it will not move on its own.*Good, strong aluminum body. Have dropped it several times from up to 10 feet, and she keeps working like a champ! The bad:*The lamp CAN come off the elastic strap (it just sort of "half detaches", but doesn't always happen,)*It takes a long time to charge (but for what I understand, you can use regular AAA. I have NOT tried/needed that as of yet, even when I USE it for up to 9 almost-nonstop-hours)*The lamp on your forehead could use a little more/softer padding (especially when you're wearing the thing for close to 10hrs a day, some days). The Ugly:*When in really tight spaces, the dimmer in the back can be moved by close by objects inadvertently. THAT could be annoying. For the price, though, this light is perfect and way better than other pricier/bulkier lights out there. This is why I gave it five stars: Because "the good" far outweighs "the bad" and "the ugly", in my opinion, and I would buy the same exact one again, if this one broke. 5Worth checking out this headlamp.Pretty awesome headlamp for around $30. My experience with headlamps is pretty limited. I generally prefer my handheld lights. But there are some situations when a headlamp is king, and when those situations come up, this light does exactly what I need it to! I believe it can be adjusted from about 3 lumens- 150 lumens (give or take a few?). I use it around the house when doing work in dark corners and crevices. While doing work under the kitchen sink, this has saved me so much time, energy, and frustration. You can adjust the brightness with the dial/lever on the back (where the batteries are). The light can be focused to a small point or un focused to spread the light around. Focus and brightness can be adjusted without turning this headlamp on. The on/off button is easy to find even with gloves on, and is pretty intuitive. It is great for camping as well. It's fantastic when you are putting up your tent in the dark, and you aren't quite able to put it up in the dark yet. It's also nice to have both your hands free when building a fire, or going through your bag to find something.I don't think you can really go wrong with any headlamp, but the LED lenser is a pretty sweet option if you are in the market for a headlamp.4Thought this would be like the product I already have made by 'LED LenserI ordered 5 of these headlamps as one purchare. Under the listing's section titled "Technical Details" it stated "H7R Rechargeable LED Headlamp," when in fact none of these headlamps were rechargeable. Thought this would be like the product I already have made by 'LED Lenser,' that it looks like (see the following website http://www.ledlenserusa.com/880038.html#start=8). I wanted a 2nd one to keep at work. In fact, all 5 headlights turned out to be a horribly manufactured headlight that I eventually sent back. On a separate note from the horrible quality, it does not emit even close to the amount of light compared to the one by 'LED Lenser' that looks like it. Great example of how purchasing a far lees expensive item that looks like the product I knew worked great, to save money initially, cost me more in the end in the form of receiving a poor quality product that I had to spent time returning. Absolute junk!!!1The best LED headlamp of any brand, in my opinionThis model with the small aluminum on-off switch is better than the one with the big red plastic on-off switch. I own 2 like this and 1 with the big red plastic button, this one is a better quality product, it's easier to focus the light, it's easier to turn on and off, it's just better in all respects. There are other more powerful models sold by this company, but those require 3 bigger batteries, AA, while this model requires 3 smaller batteries, AAA. AA batteries are a disadvantage to me, because I don't want to have so much weight on the back of my head; nor do I want the strongest headlamp model which clips on to your belt with the wire running up to it from your belt, to me that long wire is impractical, unless you need a very powerful light, then you have no choice but to get that model. his model is more practical, more comfortable, and gives off plenty of light. Please be aware that when you are wearing this unit directly on your head and it's been turned on for a while, the battery pack is going to get warm, you will feel the heat in the back of your head. Nothing is ideal. I suggest getting Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries because those batteries weigh less than the conventional alkaline batteries, and they also last longer.5Lot of light for a little money.Didn't expect much - I've got a bunch of headlamps - keep buying them. They're like tape rules and reading glasses, you can never find one of the danged things so you buy a bunch of them figuring you'll leave them laying around in enough places that they will be at hand when needed. This headlamp is extremely bright and lasts for a long time with the battery pack. I go looking for this one when I really need to throw some light on the job. The on/off switch is a little bit iffy. Seems to stick and you've got to fiddle with it a bit to get it working again, but for the price, can't really complain too much.5Hard to beat for the price!I normally host a two 5-10 day backpack trips every year in the Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana. I recently lost my Pentz headlamp at a Boy Scout activity so I needed an upgrade/replacement. The Pentz worked great for many years, night hiking and a little caving, but it doesn't compare to the LED Lenser. The best feature with the Pentz was battery life. The LED lenser beats the Pentz hands down on all other items except battery life, a fact I was already aware of before the purchase. For my long distance backpacking trips, weight is important as well as being able to use the lamp for everything from reading to cooking to night hikes. But my lamp gets more of a workout than just backpacking and Boy Scout camping. I use it in my leather working shop (Trailmaster Holsters) for numerous tasks. So it is safe to say, at this point, the LED Lenser could very well be the best light for the buck. Keep in mind I not only read and researched Amazon reviews but other websites as well before the purchase. I feel I got this one right. I'd give this lamp two thumbs up or in this case, 5 stars! Earl Southard, Owner/Operator Trailmaster Holsters. Update: 6 July 2012. Put lamp though its final test on a 10-day backpack trip in the Bob Marshall wilderness in Montana. Lamp performed very well in camp. Other members of the crew bought headlamps from local stores at the last minute, but none performed as well as this one. This lamp was used every night to scan camp for critters before emerging from the tent to take care of bladder issues after each day of heavy hydration. Lamp was light weight and easy to pack. Two thumbs up to the easy to focus beam and the adjustable power. Lamp worked extremely well at night to read in tent and was by far the most powerful when scanning for camp critters long after dark. Lamp was only accidently turned on by mistake once. Other peoples lamps were discovered on in their packs on multiple occasions. Lamp was not tested in wet conditions. Carrying case is a bonus. I highly recommend this product.5Great Build Quality With Lots of AdjustabilityI completely enjoy this LED headlight. It fits comfortably, is plenty bright, and the adjustable brightness control wheel works great for dimming the light when I'm out in the desert doing night photography. It has a certain German made quality about it, which I really appreciate. Using 4 AAA batteries is also a great thing, as these are super inexpensive and nearly as easy to find as water (maybe even easier). I would definitely buy this unit again.5A honest review from someone with several headlamps. The box the headlamp came in was nice, square, and no plastic! Inside was a neoprene case that read LED Lenser, it has a velcro closure and a belt loop. while not too super secure,it was unexpected and will store the headlamp inside my pack. The headlamp itself was of high quality with one exception, the hinge is plastic with splined teeth that act as the detents when angling the light to the desired position. These teeth will most certainly wear out with repeated use. But, until then it should work well. The lamp head itself is aluminum, then lens plastic. There are artifact or dark rings visible throughout the focusing range, but the amount of light through the lens is nice and though not perfect is acceptable because the zoom is really nice to have. You can focus the beam just where you want it. Three AAA batteries and the small head make this headlamp really lightweight. I was out in 10 degree weather and it performed well. Sure, you can spend three times the money and maybe get a glass lens and get a less artifacts in the circle of light, but even the best headlamps have their inherent weak points. The LED Lenser is definitely brighter than my 100 Lumen Mamut. Worth making a huge point about is the adjustable brightness level simply by moving the lever on the quality battery pack. Wow! I can adjust the brightness from very dim to super bright. and focus the beam wide flood to narrow spot. While it does not have strobe, sos or a red light I have other handheld lights that do that. I never use those features so this is a definite win for me. I might buy a second one because I like it so much.4Nice headlmap - just not in the rain.I really wanted to like this headlamp and sadly I just printed out my RMA for it's return. I use it for nightime surf fishing and my first venture out with it, I was very impressed with the light that it put out, and the focus-able beam. Super bright! It did start pouring later in the evening, and I had my rain hood up, so the headlamp was never directly exposed to the rain.Later on when we took to the tents as the downpour really hit, I noticed that the light had turned on on the headlamp - even though I had it locked. In fact, I couldn't get it to turn off, without taking the batteries out.Put the batteries back in, and it would turn off and on intermediately. It works fine now, sitting on my desk at home.I have read another review that had the same issue, malfunctioned when moisture was in the air.I am very, very glad I brought my black diamond as a backup.I would stay clear of this if you plan on using it in the rain.3Poorly Made Product I've owned LED Lenser products in the past and were very happy with them. My last headlamp was decently bright, had good battery life, and lasted me about five years of occasional use. It only stopped working because I managed to accidentally smash it with a heavy bag. This headlamp is a different story. I recently took it on a backpacking trip to Yosemite and it did not work great. The headlamp was very bright initially, but was noticeably dimmer after just an hour or so of use. When spinning the dim/brighten wheel, the light flickers/blinks almost as if there is a loose wire or something. The icing on the cake was the fact that the headlamp started randomly turning off while we were on our walk out early in the morning, which was a little unnerving and not something I would expect from a brand new headlamp. Maybe I just got a faulty unit, but I will be trying to get a refund or a replacement headlamp and would not recommend this product. 1Great lamp, very bright, with some extra features you probably won't use.Great lamp. I use it for running. It gets bright and basic operation is easy. The band is adjustable so I find it comfortable. I have long hair pulled into a ponytail, so I have to put the battery pack to one side while wearing the lamp. This is not an annoyance though.Drawbacks: This thing devours batteries (AAA cells don't have much power to start with). I use fairly high-end rechargeable batteries and a very high-end charger to mitigate the cost of batteries, but I still have to remember to do the charging. The lamp has a built-in charger, which may be useful if you're traveling and only have a USB-Mini cable available (definitely fewer items to pack that way). The more complex functions are not intuitive at all, but I don't need to set a strobe light or anything fancy like that.4Could use some improvements LED Lenser is the premiere personal lighting manufacturer on the market. With that being said, it is frustrating to grab this head lamp to use and it s dead. The reason, the red circle (also a red location light) in the back is the on off button. It projects out. Then in storage, if anything comes in contact with this red button, the red bulb comes on and drains the battery. LED lens or used to come with a storage pouch, not this model. It would be great if the unit can with a plastic C clip that slides behind the red bulb/button the prevents accidental depression. Yes the battery pack could be slightly removed to avoid electrical contact but without a storage pouch, the components could become scattered in the console or place of storage. Quick ease of access with dependability is why I purchased this unit and it s slightly disappointing to say the least. I have started to carry around a pack of Energizer batteries to ensure that the lamp is usable when needed 3My Favorite HeadlampI have owned at least a half dozen headlamps in the last few years ranging from Petzals to Princetons to Wally World cheapos and this is far and away my most favorite. The lamp pivots up and down very easily and stays where you want it. It has a simple on and off switch located right on the lamp with a spot to flood setting on the other side of the lamp. The light output can be adjusted from low to a high of 150 lumens by a sliding switch on the top of the battery pack on the back of your head. In my opinion it is the perfect lay out for the controls. The spot setting is great and easily reaches to well over a hundred yards. The headlamp itself is very light even with the three AAA batteries installed and run time is excellent. I use it primarily for deer and turkey hunting and have had excellent service from this headlamp for several years now. It doesn't put out as much overall light as my Princeton that uses four AA batteries but the spot to flood and the easy brightness adjustment feature just makes this light so much easier to use instead of having to turn off one setting and switch to another setting for more or less light. The LED Lenser focusing system is by far the best spot to flood system I have ever seen and allows this light to perform far beyond the 150 lumen rating. Although not listed as waterproof , I have had no problems when using it in the rain. You will not be disappointed in this light.5
