High quality with basic tools everybody needs Nice to see they ve making a tool again with the basics that the average person needs, long Phillips, straight blade in different sizes, knife blade and saw. Would like to see a swing out ruler to replace the serrated blade and a small 1/8 or less wide straight screwdriver blade to replace the stupid bottle opener nobody uses. Hope somebody at leatherman reads this, swing out ruler and small straight screwdriver would make this and awesome tool. 5My current favorite Leatherman tool. Before you buy this tool, it's good to know what "Black Oxide" coatings are like. They are a very tough black coating, but they come looking sort of "pre-worn" just by the nature of the finish. Don't expect this tool to look perfectly pitch black. It comes out of the box looking like it's been riding in your pocket for years already. I love the look. If you like a rugged multi-tool, you will too.The tool set here is fantastic. Good, strong pliers, a straight and serrated blade, a saw, a file, can/bottle opener, reamer with sewing eye, phillips, 2 flat heads, and wire cutters that are replaceable if damaged. The only missing tool is a pair of scissors, but to be honest I've never been a fan of Leatherman scissors and tend to reach for the Victorinox scissors on my keychain tool instead. They just plain cut better. Always recommend a SAK on the keys, but that's another topic entirely.This tool is lighter that it appears! It carries easily. I actually carry mine in my small 5th jean pocket with no issues. This is also a very nice tool to look at. It's got a classic Leatherman style that brings me back to the old PST but with hardened features and modern touches like locking tools. This thing is also rock solid feeling and backed by Leatherman's 25 year warranty. If you want a tough as nails multi-tool in a compact package, this is the one to choose.To give an idea of how this compares to other tools: It is not as refined as the Charge series. If you're used to the Charge, this may feel rough around the edges. But keep in mind this tool is a user with tough features at a good price point. It is not meant to compete with the higher end tools in the Leatherman line. It is also not as beefy as tools like the Supertool, which it is really a compact version of, or the new OHT. It weighs in a bit more than 3 ounces lighter than an OHT, so if you're looking at the newer tools wondering which one will ride in the pocket better this is the way to go. If you want a tough tool that you can use with one hand, go with the OHT.As I said in the title, this is my current favorite Leatherman. I love the capabilities packed by it, I love the weight, I love the "pre-worn" look of the Black Oxide finish, it's just a fantastic tool. 5Great tool with one exception I do a lot of automotive work, house work, farm work, etc., and this is an awesome tool to have on my side. There is one exception though. The circled area in my picture is a unique feature of the tool designed to do one thing: pinch the snot out of your hand and help you create new cuss words. You have to be very careful when closing it or it will try to hang on to you as if it doesn t want to go back in the sheath. Unfortunately when doing odd jobs you don t always have the luxury of following proper protocol when closing the tool. Not sure why they didn t just clearance this area to avoid such angst. 3Great little tool but small issues. I just want to start off by saying I love the rebar. The shipping was outstanding by netrush s part which I tend to shop with when available since an issue with a mini griptilian I had. It has all the tools you might need for general projects and does it in a small size which is great if you don t want a giant thing weighing down your belt and have your pockets full. Two issues I had, one being cosmetic on the pliers which I tried to take a picture of, looks like it was had pressure applied to it from another tool and left a nasty looking indentation from the a flat head (closed incorrectly?) which is a bummer considering it s a gift. Two is the sheath choice, it tends to snag when dropping it in so it needs to be adjusted at times. Also due to the leather not being sealed inside it tends to snag when going in the belt. Not a deal breaker on the sheaths part and something I m sure will get fixed as it wears or by simply going in and doing it myself. Either way it s a great tool when it comes down to it and a great price, the reason for the 3 stars is due to that plier issue. Good selection of tools. Replaceable wire-cutters. All tools lock in place. Comfortable handles. Rounded-off edges provide a nice grip for extended usage. Size and weight. This is the lightest of Leatherman's full-size tools. Can comfortably rest in a pocket or on your belt, while still having most tools you'll need, plus one of the best plier heads in the multitool world. Performance: Surprisingly strong pliers for its size. 154CM wire-cuters, the exact pair on the larger tools, like the Surge. Much more powerful than the pinch-type on the Wingman. D2 tool steel Philips head. Very durable and strong. Sharp blades, beefy can-opener and awl, full-size file, very aggressive saw. 25-year warranty from Leatherman. As long as you don't go crazy with it, you will be passing it down to your kids.Why you should not buy the Rebar:While an excellent tool, the Rebar may not fit your needs as well as another multitool might. By design, this will not appeal to everybody. All tools are accessible by opening the tool up. This has its pros and cons. It makes the tool smoother, with fewer edges that could catch on your pants/pockets, and not as prone to dirt etc, not to mention that one-handed opening blades are illegal in many countries. Depending on which tools you will use the most, the Rebar's design may not suit your needs. No scissors. Having no scissors by choice of design is not a flaw (having ineffective scissors would be a flaw). If you want scissors in a multitool it should be obvious that the Rebar should not be your first choice. No spring-loaded pliers. Like having no scissors, having no spring in the pliers is a design choice. They chose to make it like it is. If spring-loaded pliers are high in your priority list, this is not the tool you are looking for. No pocket clip. Though easily carried in a pocket, it cannot actually be clipped on one. The Rebar is not a one-handed, rapid deployment tool, so it would make sense not to have a pocket clip on it. You could add one if you really wanted, though. It's too small for you. While very capable, there are larger models by Leatherman that may better suit your heavy-duty needs.Conclusion:Do your research before you buy a multitool. Set your priorities first, and buy a multitool that covers them adequately. Leatherman is a trusted brand with me. I really appreciate that this one came with a leather sheath. I carry it on my side every day, including at work doing commercial construction, and the sheath has really held up for over 6 months now. I have some 550 cord strung through its belt loop, and a carabiner through that so I can just clip it to my belt loop. I much prefer this carry method to having it directly on my belt. This model is highly recommended as being both lighter and considerably less expensive than larger models without giving up much utility imho. At some point you actually need "real" tools, this is just a backup/catchall for when you don't have a better tool for the job when it presents itself. 5Another Top Notch Leatherman Tool I carry the Leatherman Wave for work and used to carry the Kick in my fly fishing vest. I purchased the Rebar to replace the Kick, as the Kick did not have a saw. I like to use a long stick to check the depth of the water on the river I am wading into when fly fishing. The saw will definitely help cut a fallen branch for this purpose. The replaceable hardened steel wire cutters will also come in handy to cut fishing hooks, when the unfortunate fishing accident happens, (and it has in the past). The Rebar was a bit stiff when I received it, but a little oil and working all the pivot points back and forth for a short time, it loosened up to the point of comfort. This tool has all the features needed to maintain a fly reel and gear on the water. Small and large flat blade screwdrivers, phillips head screwdriver, metal file for sharpening hooks, pliers, and knife blades for cutting line. Of course there is more to this tool than that, but those were the bare necessities I was looking for in a multi-tool. The Rebar exceeds my requirements and is well worth the purchase! 5Good but not amazing First off id like to say I'm no multi-tool expert by any means, i collect knives an such but really just wanted something that wouldnt break the bank but at the same time was a quality tool. Now that being said heres a little pros and cons after the first week.Pros: for the most part very solid construction with a little give in some areas but thats not to big a deal.The saw works wonderfully, the file is perfect for shaping and cutting, the wire cutters are strong and chomp down along with the needle nose and pliers having a very good even grip. The leather sheath is great and fits snug on my belt loop and the rest of the tool is fairly decent and comfy.Cons: I noticed right away that is a bit difficult to open and close and sometimes i pinch myself on it but with every tool that'll change. On the other hand of having it being a little stiff, i was a little frusrtsted while using the dowel or punch which ever youd call it. When i open up the side with the dowel and go to close the rest of the tool to get a good grip, the pliers jam inbetween the pair of screw drivers and it gets scratched and nicked which what ever tools have wear an tear but its definitely a negative. My last thing on this is the blade, as ive said before i collect knives and mostly higher quality ones and i look for weak metals and make sure i stay away. This particular one at first seemed very sturdy and sharp as a razor but after some basic whiddling of some fallen branches outside my work place i took a closer look at the edge of the blade closer towards the heal and it has little mini dings and dents in it and i thought wow thats pretty disapointing considering i was only working with wood. 4Leatherman multi tool is the toughest, handiest on the body tool ever! This is the greatest on the body tool ever invented. I had originally owned a Leatherman multi tool since 2001, I wore it every day and I have to say that I believe that I found a use for it every day whether at work, camping or relaxing at home, it was my go to tool! I still had the original leather case even though it was seriously shoeing its age. A friend told me " you better get a new case for that thing!" and I knew he was right but it was an emotional attachment that cost me my old friend. I had gone hiking that day looking for a certain spot on State game land and several other out of the way places, I went to reach for my old friend and it was gone! I combed the places using my Garmin Fortrex to no avail. Alas! I had to opt for one of the new guys on the block, I still feel bad for the old one but I have to say, the new one The Rebar that I have is a better tool mainly because everything locks. It seems lighter but somehow just as tough, I think because this one seems somewhat smaller. The pliers are better because you can really cut hardened wire! What ever Leatherman did, it worked. I opted for the leather sheath out of nostalgia but will keep an eye on it, at the earliest sign of wear I will replace it with a nylon one. 5
